It's surreal being back on campus. I feel like a completely different human.
2 years ago I was set to celebrate the crowning achievement of my life. My family booked flights to visit, we had an Airbnb on the cape, I was primed to walk at graduation and receive my diploma which represented years of hard work. One email from the Dean shutting down campus because of Coronavirus and my dreams evaporated.
Not gonna lie, the past two years have been the struggle of a lifetime. My youth speaking business collapsed, I was furloughed at the Harvard Innovation Labs, I had a rogue cofounder selfishly sink our startup, and welcomed a third child to our family at a time where we were wiping down groceries in fear of COVID 19. It was pure survival mode for almost 2 years.
That's why returning to campus has been so emotional. We've all been through a lot and had our own personal and professional struggles. Seeing my fellow students all together in one place was extremely encouraging to know that they were somewhere out in the world, resiliently fighting alongside me.
We deserve to be here. We deserve to celebrate. Not just our accomplishments during schools, but the hard-fought victories during the pandemic as well.
By the looks of it, we've still got plenty of global problems to solve and bubbling anger from differing views to quell. I'm grateful to be working, fighting, healing, and listening alongside the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. The future is bright and it's ours. Let's rise up and take it!
Class of 2020 and 2021, here's to the future adventures we choose to embrace.
