This is a song from my youth and it changed my opinion on Christian rock. The song was released in 2001. I couldn't remember the exact details so I pulled this from Wiki. -The song's inspiration stems from a trip when the band was on their way to record for Satellite on March 5, 2001. They were held up in traffic and discovered that the reason was a mass shooting at Santana High School, where a fifteen-year-old student named Charles Andrew Williams killed two and wounded thirteen. The album was consequently delayed, and the band was inspired to write "Youth of the Nation."
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 : Good question.🙂 Because Christians tend to be Conservative. This was especially true in the past when there was even more bigotry in society (we have progressed socially, but we regressed economically). Conservatives seek to keep things from changing, to stop progress and stop Progressives. Multiple studies have shown the driving emotion of conservatism is fear. Hence resistance to change.
@@aylbdrmadison1051 By my profile picture you can perhaps tell that I'm a huge Iron Maiden fan. They were one of the many bands in the 80's who were considered "satanic" and Christian conservative people gave them and many other rock and metal bands a bad stigma. Being a 90's kid I didn't grow up with just as much of that stigma but I learned through experience that not everyone saw it that way and it was only the hysterical clericals I call them that had the blinders on and weren't able to look past the surface level and actually listen to the words of these artists and hear the message. But I would disagree that most conservatives seek to stop progress. There is far less bigotry in society today than ever. The "progressiveness" you're talking about for the most part is actually socialism and communism. If you think we've progressed socially then you must be on some hard drugs.
This album was released on 9/11. I remember because I went to the store that morning to buy the cd when I learned of the tragedy. I remember the media throwing shade at bands like P.O.D. for their song ‘Boom’ and System of a Down’s song ‘Jet Pilot’. Almost like they were implying that they had knowledge or were somehow part of it. It was disgusting to hear the media paint them in that kind of light.
2000 or 2001, a friend girl of mine that new the manager of POD, took me to meet them as a suprise. We had dinner with them, at their hotel and then back stage passes at Life Fest, Oshkosh, WI. Just as they were going on stage, my friend said we were going to be the stage dancers and all we had to do was rock out and dance the entire show. It was crazy! Danced on stage their entire set and after wards we went back to their hotel and hung out with Wuv (drummer). We drank some Coronas and told stories until late into the evening. Wuv was super cool. They had just released their first MTV videos and were just starting to make it big and were very down to earth and very cool.
This song is so profound, not in its complexity, but in its honest brutality. Love your content, my friend. This song feels sadly current and ever applicable. ❤
Sadly current indeed. Society is sabotaged by the bigoted idealism of Conservatism incited by the Wealthy Elite for thousands of years (then multiplied & sensationalized through the media of that era) that divides us and keeps society from Progress. And all for the profit/power of the Wealthy Elite. Hierarchy is achieved through bigotry. _El pueblo unido jamas sera vencido!_ ❤🌍🌎🌏🌐
this album is very connected to 9/11 for me. Bought the album on my way home after watching the news in school all day. Listened to it several times before finally getting to rest for the day. I was a senior in high school.
i have 2 girls of my own. when he said " her daddy left her. too bad he never told her she deserves much better" it really hit me hard. i would never abandon my girls
Your heart is huge, it shows thru all you say and your facial expressions give it away.... world needs more of that.... Peace to you and yours..... love the headset!!
i am a suicide survivor from the after effects of dealing with 9/11 i went thru that horrific event and during that my parents divorced making it even more upsetting and wanting to be suicidal i had so much pain back then and i still do i have many friends lost during 9/11 event :( RIP to my friends. and f u to my folks for making it worse i am a real suicidal survivor thank u POD youth of the nation for saving my life ❤ and thank u for reviewing this childhood song of mine and alot of others who dealt with similar events to mine
This song was actually released in 2001. I heard it a lot when I was in middle school. The second verse about little Susie described my last gf almost to a tee. She passed away in July from a seizure that led to a stroke, but for 30 years, she kept going through a lot of traumatic events that were trying to destroy her. She persevered through so much that happened to her when she was a kid. I wanted to be the foundation she could stand on to support her on her path to healing. We were so happy the entire time we were together. I knew I wanted to be with her forever. When she passed away, she took a big piece of my soul with her. It has been so hard for me to stay balanced since then. I am trying to avoid collapsing under the weight of her loss. She meant the world to me.
I can say, embrace the pain. Don’t run from it or try and block it out because it will come with every memory of your lost one and too many people rob themselves of the memories to where they lose them.
@@Akihito007 Absolutely. I'm trying my best cherish the memories I had with her. It's overwhelming sometimes, but to try and block it out would hurt even worse. Thank you for the words of encouragement. Much love. \m/
I got to see P.O.D. last year and let me tell you, I got whole body chills when 15,000 people helped chant out the chorus at the same time. Another great reaction Aileen. Keep it up.
Yeah, that song was a huge radio hit for the band in 2001. IIRC, P.O.D. are from San Diego. I actually saw them live in 2022, as they were one of the opening acts for Jinjer. Tatiana is married to Alex Lopez, their touring drummer(2022-2024, per Wikipedia). When I saw them play this song, one of the other band members switched to drums so they'd have 2 drummers for this song.
Agree with others that you should check out more POD. Love your breakdown and empathy and understanding of the video, hope you’re doing well and keep on rocking on 🤘🏻🖤
Dear Aileen you are a wonderful person and woman with a great heart, and for your words that you said mean much and is why not forget them, is the song says it too, from the themes that she has faced by violence, depression, to the events of Santana high school in 2001. We must be the hope of this world ❤
This song really helped me. After the death of my husband I was so lost. I married young and was having a hard time adjusting to him not being there. Luckily family and the the church was there for me and the kids.
It is the combination of Gun Culture and a Wealth Distribution system based solely on Greed and Competition, that has to end. Trading childrens lives for profit should never have become who we are as a nation. The same issue causes poverty and homelessness.
This song was inspired by a time when they were on the way to the studio and when they were almost there, there was a school shooting taking place right around the corner from their studio.
California ed ❤ you are so right the world 🌎 has changed for the worst 😢 but you are the youth of the world 🌎 your generation can make a difference ❤ hopefully the next generation will prevail ❤ thank you for your support to the world 🌎 ❤
P.O.D. was literally the anthem of my childhood so it was cool to see you react to this, and you have such an empathetic heart that I could imagine someone better to have viewed this. We love you Senpai
I came to see your reaction to this song and band that i listened to a lot when i was in high school, 2000 to 2004. Im now 39. I didnt expect to tear up. 😢
Highly recommend checking these guys out more! Childhood favorite band just saw them live this year and it was for me a life altering concert in a way. Looovveee P.O.D
Aileen, you're right! The world has become " Me, me, me "! When I was in school. people fought with fists. Got over it and moved on. There was never any killing. Take care of each other, people !
I first saw POD at a church in Lexington, SC before they blew up. That was one of the craziest pits I've been in. Three beautiful women carried me out so I can't complain.
Appreciate you "getting" music of this time! Love your reviews. I was a freshman in college when this dropped... let alot of express our anger and sadness for what was happening and still til today.
I actually used to live down the street from Santana high school which is the school shooting happened when POD was in the recording studio down the street in Santee in San Diego
Saw them at the Pima County Fair a few years back. Full body chills being in the audience when we were all chanting "we are, we are the youth of the nation". Talk about electric
Damn... it's 2024, i am 37 now, but when i hear that song i feel like i am still part of the youth... Was in 8th grade when it came out and to this day connects with something free and young, but also sad deep inside me.
Thank you for getting to POD, I love this band, Sonny's voice really accentuates the passion and emotion of the lyrics in their music as a band they blur the lines between so many genre's. If at some stage you would like to re visit them I highly recommend "roots in stereo" which touches on more dub/reggae roots, "higher" is a classic or "goodbye for now" which has a fun little cameo from a young Katy Perry. Either way am always excited to take this musical journey with you
This song was debuted on TRL with Carson Daly. P.O.D. played it live in the studio either shortly before or shortly after midnight, January 1st, 2000. Those of us of a certain age may remember watching this live. It was awesome!
Thank you for appreciation of the lyrics. People dont listen to messages and thinking of it as a *good melody and makes me dance*... This song makes me really... Down.. But its good to express your feelings like that. Kids need to be heard. Not just seen.
This takes me back to riding around with my dad and him having this and other Nu metal playing all the time. That’s why I love Nu metal so much was my dad
Thank you for reviewing this amazing song! I remember listening to this song at 15 years old and not understanding anything about it but knew it was a good one
P.O.D. was one of my favorite bands growing up. Satellite album was actually released on September 11th 2001. My mom took me to Walmart to buy it for me since they sent us home and she tried to keep me from being afraid. She knew how much I loved the band
This song is beautiful. Its message is deep and sound is perfect. So much emotion comes up when this song comes on. This was a staple in my life during my teen years. I’m 40 now and still feel like I’m back in high school when I hear this.
Great reaction to a great song. This song came out a little after I graduated college. The song came out around 23 years ago and is just as, if not more, relevant today than it was then.
P.O.D. is on of my TOP 3 favorite bands ever! I hope you check out more of their videos, great lyrics and positive messages, and they can throw down just as easily or drop the dopest reggae jam ever! Should check out Boom, or South Town, or anything of theirs. Great reaction video!
My reaction to you watching the music of my childhood was very sad. As a father it made me want to wrap you up in a hug to take the sadness from your eyes.
When this song came out it was one of my favorite songs but i couldn't understand and translate all the lyrics as I was too young my Englisch was too bad...also the internet was not a big thing back then in my region in Germany to search for lyrics but a few years later when I "revisited" the song it hit really hard.
they are from mt area of SD, my 3 favorite songs by them are "southtown" "teachers" and "wildfire” but they have so many good songs and songs that make me cry because sonny lost his mom and sings about it, i lost my moms when i was 17 so i super relate. Sonnys sister used to live next to my best friends place were we used to practice our music in. My friends garage, sonny actually came by one day and listened to us play it was so cool, this was like 10 years ago when i was 23. Also been to one birthday party that they were at. hometown legends.
Great song, POD has another big hit called "Boom". But it was so damn popular I can almost guarantee you've heard parts of it before. It was picked up in tons of movies, commercials, etc.
I've seen them live at a family friendly concert event. They played this song at the end of their set and invited all the kids on stage with them to help sing the chorus. Really cool.
This song is a song that saved me from so many bad times in my life from when I was young, till even now 32 yrs later. Im not a heavily religious person but the love I have for this song and the group itself is something I can't even put into words. Thankyou for reviewing this over..its crazy how much this song translates so well into today as well.
I Stand Alone by Godsmack started my uphill battle with depression but it was this song that gave me the strength needed to pull myself out of my depression completely
I remember how lit this song was back when it released. I heard it on radios all across town and the state. I wish this song reached people today as it applies to them as much as we were when it first came out.
I had no idea I would be on this channel listening to you. I had no idea that you even existed. I was listening to RATM and you popped up in the feed. I’m a bit blown away. You are a beautiful and special soul. Your words after “ Killing in the Name” of and “Down Rodeo” left me somewhat speechless. Your passion and obvious love of all things music is contagious. I can tell you have an audience and group that shares your love. I’m an old Metal Head… lover of all things music. Man, you bring a vibe that is so unique. I feel like the people who are just finding Rage Against The Machine even Exists after 30 years. How could I not know that you and this channel and group existed ??? God Bless you all. I will be back…..
Always love this rap rock song. The meaning is we need to love and accept all in this world and not to look down on someone. Love can be the cure. Love your in depth analysis of the lyrics. ✊✌🖤
