I travel with and "without" my gear... I migrated to all of my patches, for multiple shows, in my laptop. GigPerformer act as my VST host. All I basically need is 2 boards for the keybed as controllers. I request a synth action board/controller (for analog patches) and a weighted board (for pianos) And with all sounds in the laptop, every gig sounds the same. I bring a small "controller" (right now MidiMix) for faders/knobs/buttons which are mapped though GigPerformer. Makes life easy when traveling without my gear.... Flying out this weekend taking a backpack!

Now I just bring macbook + Audio Interface, Expression Pedal, MIDI cable, and a korg nanokontrol 2. everything fit into a backpack. Also ran through Gigperformer as well, still surprise every sound engineer i met in the gig venues lol Only issue is I have to request a good keyboard to run all of that, cuz I'll need expression pedal input, pitch bend, and aftertouch to triggers all my sounds properly.

Bringing a MatrixBrute on tour is the true definition of courage :D Especially if you have no roadies to take it in and out of its truckpack every night... ;) I had one of my MODXs converted into a 19" rack unit and left the other one in the studio. This is how you do in much smaller teams ! :D :D :D These backstage videos are great. Thank you.

He plays in front of 20K a night, I'm pretty damn certain he could have a grandpiano and a real suitcase or a Yamaha CP80 (the real original 3/4 grand encased in bronze) if he wanted to. Trust me you have roadies for you starting a much lower level in the industry in my experience, well, doing festivals and carrying instruments lol but the roadies won't make the travel for you tho

You converted a MODX into a rack unit? You should do a video on that I’m really curious about that process.

@@jas_bataille depends of where you're from... You need to reach a certain notoriety before someone sets up your gear for you here in France ;)

@@SamGutman Well, I haven't done the job myself, I had it done by a tech, but I could make a video to show the result though...

That's all fine and dandy unless your music involves vintage gear. Do you know where I can rent a Kawai K1, Kawai R-50e, a Roland R-8M, and a Yamaha DX7 to use a master keyboard that also makes sounds. So yea renting is fantastic if you can get what you need. But unfortunately that doesn't always work out. I currently have no plans to gig. But if I did; I would probably limit myself to local shows so it's easier to safely transport my gear. Conveniently I live in Las Vegas. Which isn't a bad place to do shows.

true! this only works with certain gear! But I'm partly using the gear that I use because it able to do this with it.

Believe me nobody in the audience would be able to tell the difference if you swapped them out for modern repos or even sampled patches.

I have 15 vintage boards to choose from. Roland/Korg/Yamaha/Ensoniq and have found in a live situation, the "sound" is only as good as the sound system. I stopped carrying my vintage gear. They stay in the studio. I have VSTs that cover every board in my collection.... I went with GigPerformer as a host. Can design my rigs for each song/synth/rig etc... There are so many free VSTs out there that are amazingly accurate
