Italy. My rustic Italian tiny house renovation in Le Marche region of central Italy in Europe. I attempt plastering a wall for the first time and expose an old stone wall to reveal beautiful original brickwork that will become a stand out feature of my open plan european style kitchen area. I tackle the overgrowth of the barns and attempt to save old trees from ants, bugs and weeds.
My solo DIY and self build rural farmhouse restoration continues. Simple expat living is the goal as I work on the middle section of the house to create a more comfortable living space. My new power tool comes in handy to remove old tiles and solid render as I peel back the layers to reveal what amazing bones my little farmhouse in the counrtyside has. There is no exploring Le Marche this week as the little time that I have off work is spent trying to catch up on the renovation and restorations.

This is my fairly new channel which is all about my big plans to renovate an old disused rustic farmhouse that I purchased in rural Italy. I show you why I chose to buy a house in Italy and why I chose to live in the Marche region over places such as Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo and Puglia.

When making lots of dust in the home, I use what us yanks call a box fan and put it in the window with the fan blowing the air flow out side. It really keeps the dust moving out of the house. Looking good mate!

I have been watching Martin for over a year. Actually watched when he first started his cabin, Love what he has achieved and his place looks great. There are few things in life more satisfying than taking on a new challenge, or a daunting job and then standing back and realising you've made a good job of it and you feel your confidence nudge up another notch :-) Well done, Richard, you are making a great job of the renovations and lovely to see the house revealing some interesting character elements 👍 My guess is that leaving some of those stubborn patches of plaster, rather than fighting them (80:20 rule), will add to the character as another layer of visual texture. Just keep doing your vids as you have been; unscripted, spontaneous and down to earth. As a society the English speaking world and the vlogging world especially, has become obsessed with polish and perfect, utopic images. Life only has fleeting moments like that, not a constant every day. I'm so glad you don't constantly beg for 'like, subscribe and hit the notification bell'. If you produce good content the people that like it will do those things on their own volition - and look how your channel is growing! 😁 Keep up the good work and that 'Human touch': may it go from strength to strength 👍

For ants and lots of other bugs get this,...... 5 grams of cloves put into the bottle and add 1 litter of water, (50 gr of cloves to 10 l of water......you get that, don't you) leave in dark place for 15 days and pour onto the ants nest and the way they travel into the house and around the house. This recipe worked for me and I repeat it every year once or twice. Last 10 years I don't have any ants

My how wonderful this home will be when finished. Enjoy the process and take tons of before and after pics, hubs and I took pics in all our homes over the years in each room before we renovated them and would frame the first pics of room before we did our our touches to the rooms for a reminder of where we started and how far we came. In each room you will find a pic of the room the way it was when we first started and makes a great conversation piece for sure. Also bring that bucket and your materials in to the room right there with you and that hose to mix up water and plaster material to prevent having to carry that bucket every time once filled, makes the work a lot easier. I've been watching Martijn from the outset. His production is beautiful, but you do you. I like the chat. I'm a Brit renovating in the UK. Coincidentally I'm also in "negotiations" with ants and currently have a jack hammer on hire to take a corner fireplace out. In fact...I'd better get on...😂

Thanks @brigid6609 . That clear up has made a massive difference to the bugs already. Stagnant water hidden in the undergrowth was causing a big problem. I think I am through the worst of that clearing now. Its great to see the trees coming back and doing well.

HI @lisastarke3785 . The timing of travel and getting materials delivered has been a real challenge to line up. As I get more organised the help is on the way. You must have a sense of humour when making repairs or renovation. If you don't laugh, you will cry. I would not change a thing about my move to Italy. I have created a beautiful balance of work and living. I see that you do also. You are accomplishing a lot these days. One day it will be exactly what you want. The plastering looks really good. Not bad for a first time. Bravo.

Don’t overthink it mate. Your videos are always interesting, funny at times and let’s me live my dream vicariously through you. So what’s not to like? Love the idea of some plastered walls and some exposed brick. It’s all going to be worth the effort. You must hate having to go back to UK instead of being there. I subscribe to Martjin but I like what you're doing as well. He looks like a real craftsman and I am certainly not that. So when I watch him I'm always aware of not being able to do what he can do. I enjoy watching you because you do things the way I would do them plus it's fun to see you change your mind about things! I also like seeing a different part of Italy. A RU-vid couple that I watch is LEAW and I like them for the same reasons that I like you. Don't change a thing! Also 40 minutes isn't too long. Sometimes I put all of your videos together and binge watch.👍👏👏

You might try inspecting your plumbing with an inexpensive endoscope camera using your smart phone for video. For $25 at Amazon you can have the power to see if a disaster is about to happen. You should be able to map the direction and length of the plumbing in the walls too. When you get to the next bend you mark the length of cable and pull it back out to measure recording the next leg of the plumbing. Also, using a power chisel to expose the brick could prove DANGEROUS. Too much vibration is clearly loosening the mortar between the brick. The wall and heavy beam above are relying on that mortar between those bricks for strength. Make sure you "re-point" any disturbed mortar between support bricks.

Thanks @cratecruncher4974 . I think that hunting that cold feed down is asking for trouble so have decided to close it off and replumb from the main source coming in. I will need to repoint a few parts of that wine rack wall but luckily the main pillar looks rock solid. Still a little to clean up on there so something may come loose when I do that. 40 minutes is great, but also do what you can manage & fit in, also I found a wider bit on the end of the hammer drill helps get plaster off the brick as a smaller one as you said digs in more, the wider one skims across the top, but also its more about learning the technique that works for you, old bricks look great & will look great when your done & plastered & painted, enjoy ! I also work from home whilst doing a renovation & feel your teams call pain, god knows what these calls do to your soul : )
