Ironically, Asuma, Shikamaru, Naruto was a team in "Better Left Unsaid." My favorite team dynamic by far and Naruto is an absolute killing machine there.

I could argue Naruto having Lee as rival on team Guy. Some parts aren’t canon (Naruto Shippuden Ending 15) but Naruto matches the levels of anyone he trains with. They already got him to wear the green jumpsuit once so the chemistry will be there lol. Naruto potentially learning the 8 gates while using shadow clones is crazy even before he gets to Jiraiya.

i really like the idea of team asuma having shikamaru, neji, and naruto. neji- scouts with byakugan allowing possible shadow clone surprise attacks, disables chakra, and protects shikamaru naruto- rushes with clones giving shadows for shikamaru to work with and have some clones help protect shikamaru, basically goes all in with his abilities, and he can have clones transform to look like neji and shikamaru to lead enemies into a trap or ambush shikamaru- makes strategies, and can hold enemies with shadow possession or shadow strangle for a rush down or stall strategy and this is just if asuma decides to sit back instead of jumping in but with him in the mix the team wrecks

Personally would love to see what Might Guy could do training Choji imagine his powers with the gates or with an even more developed martial art

My version would be Team Guy: Naruto, Hinata, Rock Lee Help improve Naruto’s taijutsu, personal development from Hinata and would just be an overall fun team Team Kurenai: Sakura, Neji, Choji Two genjutsu specialists and Two combat specialists to even things out with Sakura expanding her skillset before Tsunade and maybe Neji learns how to use Byakugan and genjutsu in tandem Team Asuma: Shikamaru, Tenten, Kiba Kiba and Tenten expand their individual skills using weapons and chakra flow with Shikamaru as their genius leader Team Kakashi: Sasuke, Ino, Shino Team based on stealth with Kakashi possibly being able to help point Ino and Shino in the right direction to enhance/improve their clan’s techniques

12:47 in the previous video you had Kiba with Kakashi, why I think this works better is Kiba learning dog summoning would benefit him greatly, also if Pain's dogs exist in the real work at all (animal path) Kiba going out and finding those guys later, does give him a way to grow. Kiba low key benefits from them. I also think Choji on Sakura's team is good for spacing, you have genjutsu users that don't want to fight up close, and Neji for defense, what they need is spacing, Choji can provide that.

Honestly for Part 1 Naruto’s initial final picks, I’d rather Kakashi straighten out Kiba, Guy troll Ino, Asuma amp Naruto & Kurenai possibly teach Choji more about chakra control and ninja tools

Hear me out, I agree both that Naruto needs rivalry, and that the Team Guy that Chat built was an anti synergy, but what if we think for a bit that Naruto's rivalry doesn't need to be antagonistic, and that Guy is only interested in training Taijutsu users anyway? Team Guy - Lee, Kiba, Naruto Let's be honest, with Guy's favoritism of Lee, he's kinda useless as a sensei to bring out the potential in people that would balance his team properly. So we go total force multiplier and intentionally theme his entire team around leaning in to the bad idea of proving you can still be a splendid ninja while focusing completely on close range bone crunching, but with a well rounded (mostly) friendly rivalry dynamic in the students. They'd just be totally pushing each other to be better scrappers. They're also effectively all more of mid-range fighters due to the way they use their melee attacks. Lee is goofy in demeanor but could be a truly consistently skilled rival to Naruto, while Kiba would be very serious about his rivalry with Naruto but ultimately just a heel that has no chance of surpassing him in the long run once Naruto picks up steam. (Plus, unlike Naruto needing a rival in-team to bounce off of, Lee can still have his arc of training in secret to beat someone pompous about hard work like Neji even if he doesn't see a lot of them, so that can be separate from the in-team friendly rivalry, and still similarly inspire Naruto if the Lee/Gaara fight goes down the same.) ----- While I'm not in love with this next idea, I'm going to do it based purely on in-world logic over power scaling shonen meta trying to pretzel itself around the issues it sets up. This is a specialist team that isn't initially even intended to be combat focused before the Chunin Exams, but could then still blossom into that. Team Kuranai - Sakura, Ino, Hinata Ino and Sakura's backstory literally sets up that Kunoichi are supposed to be trained in a special skill set for mission types unique to all-female teams, and that is the curriculum track they went through in the academy. It's kind of the whole reason Sakura sucks to start off with, because she only even has the most basic of practical combat training you can graduate with. Beyond that, Hinata is currently being passed over for consideration of being groomed for head of her clan when she graduated, so that's the whole reason she ended up on Kuranai's team in the canon, and why she'd be drafted on the kunoichi specialist team. (Also, Tenten by all accounts most likely did not go through the Kunoichi specific training, unless I'm forgetting some obscure detail in the anime.) ----- Next, I'll take advantage of the fact that Asuma is beyond a doubt the best actual sensei/teacher of the group. This team is good enough that it will derail the original canon story. Or maybe better to say it will anti-derail things in a way that alters the plot? Team Asuma - Sasuke, Shino, Choji First off, saying the insects are incompatible with ninja on your own team that can use fire is shortsighted. Any jutsu hitting your own allies is a bad thing, that is why you just don't do that. That's what training together and teamwork are for. Saying Shino can't work with Asuma and Sasuke is basically saying fire jutsu can't exist in a team setting at all. It also ignores the personality side of things. You see, Asuma will have any students training under him running like a well-oiled machine in combat, and also help them work on their interpersonal skills. Asuma is skilled, smart, and has the emotional intelligence to guide students down the right path. Sasuke isn't going to be deserting the village (at least, not willingly). Shino isn't going to be getting forgotten about all the time, and will actually be able to form healthy friendships with his teammates and others like he wants to. Choji is another solid team member that can synergize with just about anyone given the right guidance (but is mostly here because if Neji was on the team we wouldn't have any good drama at all going into the Chunin Exams, both because Asuma might have straightened him out too quickly, and his powerset may have even been enough to help repel Orochimaru in the Forest of Death without the opportunity to inflict the curse mark, as crazy as that sounds). ----- Despite me listing this team last, and giving big reasons for why I formed the other teams, this is not the team of leftovers. Team Kakashi - Tenten, Shikamaru, Neji Tenten and Shikamaru have insane combination potential. Her ninja tools giving him approach angles with his jutsu, his jutsu giving her attack opportunities. But they’d need a strong anchor to set up with. Most of the time on missions, that can be left to having the most generally overpowered of the available sensei, while Neji was/is considered the strongest in the context of student-on-student fights, such as the Chunin Exams. We also know that Tenten and Neji can work well together. As a full unit they cover just about anything besides having canon healing jutsu specialty, but there wasn't enough of that to go around to every team anyway. Furthermore, Kakashi knows first hand that no level of being a genius ninja exempts you from failure and hardship on your own merits, which meshes a bit better with mentoring Neji than his bungling of trying to set Sasuke down the correct path. Probably still only amounts to helping him out after his canon redemption arc rather than before, though. Kakashi literally had no experience as an effective sensei prior to Squad 7, unless you count experience having your squad killed off. ----- Okay, that's it. If anyone sees this, what do you think? Did I gloss over anything I should have clarified more? Agree or disagree with any of my reasoning?

the only thing i could maybe change about sage’s list is swapping ino and sakura… Ino being trained in genjutsu and follow up with mind transfer has cracked potential in gathering info… For the life of me- idk if Asuma ever trained Ino on anything… But i can definitely see the chakra blade concentration being somewhat of a stepping stone to what built up shippuden sakura before having to grab Tsunade.

Team Kakashi: Sasuke, TenTen, Kiba Team Kurenai: Sakura, Shino, Chouji Team Asuma: Naruto, Shikamaru, Hinata Team Guy: Lee, Ino, Neji Kakashi and Sasuke must go together because of the Sharingan and they both fight predominantly up close, TenTen for long range and she’s one of the weakest so it even the team out and she won’t get on Sasuke’s nerves or need too much help from Kakashi, Kiba because he’s a mid to close range and being on the same team as Sasuke would push him to be better, also maybe he could learn to use Kakashi’s ninja hounds. Kakashi and Sasuke would be the brains. Kurenai has Sakura because she would actually spend time to help her being the only girls on the team and would actually help her at her genjustu affinity. Kurenai and Sakura would support the team through placing genjustu on the enemies while the others attack, Sakura would also be capable of healing, Kurenai would be compassionate to Choji and not bully him like others would, he would also be the close range fighter on this team, and then Shino would be the powerhouse here and used for tracking and mid to long range. Sakura and Shino would be the brains. Asuma and Shikamaru have a great bond and can’t be separated, Shikamaru and Naruto are really close and work well together so they should be together and Asuma could better teach Naruto in more wind style attacks. Shikamaru would plan and Naruto would follow up with a powerful attack. Then Hinata is used for sensory and tracking. She would also work even harder to prove herself in front of Naruto.the brains on this team are Shikamaru and Asuma. Guy would have Lee (the most obvious choice out of everybody lol), Neji so he can scout ahead and hit multiple people, and Lee is a great rival for Neji (and Neji is a close to mid range fighter). Ino because she can Mind transfer to enemies and the rest of the team can then take the enemy’s down while Neji uses his Byakugan’s 360 vision to protect her and Rotation.

I like sage's pick more but I think he is sleeping on shino. One he doesn't really have a stamina problem if anything his is efficient and balanced as hell which makes him slightly above average. He can fight close, to mid and to long range as well and he is a scout. He is smart as hell as well. I also have to say except for some exceptions the senseis shouldn't be counted as a factor for the team outside of teaching because the first half of Naruto that is what the teachers were. So my team would most likely be team kakashi: Sasuke, Naruto( or negi), shino(or tenten). Team guy: Lee, Hinata, chogi. Team asuma: shikamaru, negi, ino. Team kuranai: Sakura, tenten, kiba.

Honestly sage team kurinai is a cracked team and Naruto would possibly push himself further dealing with sasuke and neji who he will see more often mainly in part 1

Real talk, TSO, I will give you an out to fix these teams. You get one substitute, you can take one ninja from another village, or another ninja from Konoha, and replace one of the trash picks. Even Kosuke looking better than some of these picks in Part 1. Surely you could do some work when you get options like Gaara, Temari, or Kankuro.

I agree with this list more than what I've seen. If you're not putting Tenten with Kakashi, then yea, I don't see anything better than your take. That would absolutely be a good tribute to bringing out whatever potential she didn't in the canon. Now, I might get shit for this, and if I'm disagreed with politely then that's fair, but I have to point out the obvious fact that separating Naruto and Sasuke shits the rival dynamic for both of them. I would find it more interesting to see them apart, but it is also very difficult to ever imagine those other Shinobi keeping up throughout the entire series. I'm not gonna bring up the reincarnations other than this sentence, mainly because I feel like everybody just does that. Choji and Neji are good if you choose to do so, mostly because I hypothesize that Rock Lee would be worse if not on Guy's team. Rock Lee would be the other best rival to Sasuke, but Kakashi is his required sensei. As for Naruto, I think his positioning matters the least so long as he has an actual rival. His true sensei is his own perspective... or Jiraiya lol Thing is though, I mostly am looking to the side characters when I think about who'd I put on what team. As important as MCs are, the main driving force that pumps the plot to a point that an MC can crash out would be more around what the other characters are doing. If their teams are trash, it just shows itself even more because we know the main characters are gon be boxing regardless. Beyond just a guaranteed level of plot armor, it's that they always have more to work with.

I would have gone with Kakashi, Sasuke, Kiba, and I know Imma get shit for this but Tenten . Kiba fits all the reasons Hinata does, he's a scout type but also, Kakashi summoning is dogs... and Kiba is mobile enough to work with Sasuke and Kakashi. The Hyuga fighting style is an anchor that does not mesh well with the rest of the team. Tenten plugs the hole here by being a range ninja which sill synergize well with Sasuke who also summons a lot of ninja tools.

Kureha, other then maybe training naruto for genjutsu resistance, i dont think she can train him in anything else unlike the other 3 teachers. Now narritvely speaking, dynamic with neji in order to get better, to challenge his beliefs, absolutely, chefs kiss. But as a sensai/teacher/mentor for naruto? Kiba and Naruto also would totally have a rivalry based solely on them pissing each other off, and Lee is competitive enough to fit in/keep up. Diversity is cool, but specializing on a set talent is also a viable choice.

I'd argue Kakashi was the WORST sensei for Sasuke. I know. Insane. Their personalities were too quiet, reserved, and straight up depressing. I feel like the other Sensei's more upbeat/chill personality's would have made Sasuke amazing and his clash with Naruto would NEVER happen. He would literally be a good person. I am sure at some point the other sensei would discover his lightning nature and direct him to Kakashi for the chidori. Like how Naruto went to Asuma for tips. I do like Sasuke/Hinata/Choji though, W team, I think Sasuke having a kindhearted person around like Choji would be a W for him and help him pull the stick out his ass, and Hinata is so mfin shy, he would help with that teams whole dynamic. Sasuke's best Sensei? Guy. No brainer. Dude literally knows how to combat sharingan, has insane taijutsu, and is BFF's with Kakashi, which means Sasuke can pull up on Kakashi for that lightning style goodness easier.

Problems with your teams)))) Kakashi: Hinata doesn’t fuck with sasuke because of how he treats Naruto. Kakashi is a trash teacher and Hinata wouldn’t gain confidence under him. Choni is a follower and needs guidance. Sasuke is a terrible team leader but Kakashi would put him in that position. Guy: No matter what, Ino is girly and hates bugs. Shino is smart but quiet and on a team with two dumb loud people. Ino wouldn’t listen very well, she’d go against all of Guy’s training due to fashion alone. Asuma: Team has 0 defensive capability and way too fragile. Shikamaru’s smarts can’t make up for Tenten’s uselessness. Kurenai: Naruto needs an actual teacher and Kurenai isn’t teaching shit. Neji wouldn’t listen or respect her because he relies on taijutsu alone. He and Naruto would have a rivalry but neither would gain anything from it. Everyone here is a terrible teacher for Naruto.
