@@Brandjuh Deliveroo has long been involved in a legal battle over having to hire delivery drivers. The company wants them to be self-employed, but several courts have already labelled them employees. It's the same reason they left Spain. Of course, the official version always talks about "operational issues".

The literal translation of "Thuisbezorgd" would be "Delivered at home". It was founded in 2000 in NL. They took over Just Eat in 2015. Deliveroo has been active here for a few years, but is gone now. Very nice to see you in Amsterdam in this video!

@@naamashang5107 yes usually in his videos and in general when ordering food the person will be there in person to give a code to accept the order and the rider will hand the order to them but their face isn’t usually shown in these videos for privacy reasons
As a Dutchie I love this episode. You should visit the city Groningen sometimes, it’s up North in the Netherlands. It has a beautiful old city center and canals.
I genuinely share exactly the same feelings of wonder and amazement of this city any time I visit, the moment with the tram lines in the grass - how many times moments like those happened and just blew my mind and showed me how good a city CAN be are just innumerable xD Love this content

Yeah, know the country pretty well, Amsterdam is great with all those canals and bridges, Rotterdam has great modern architecture, Leiden/Delft cosy typical Dutch cities, Maastricht the most stylish city and best food. Lot's of things to do.
As a dutch man this makes me happy, btw if you have a yellow plate you can 45kmh and with a blue plate 25kmh, before 2023 you didnt need a helmet on a blue plate but now you have to so thats why there are more yellow plates....

Instantly recognised the hotel at 14 minutes, stayed there about 12 months ago. I love Amsterdam it’s my favourite holiday I’ve ever been on, the people are incredible and the architecture of the city is stunning. I’d happily move from the uk 😂
Honestly if you just follow traffic rules everything should just flow naturally. It’s probably not faster than UK or any other country but it is a lot safer however.

After cycle touring it always shocks me riding back from the airport how dangerous the UK roads are, but then it normalises and i go back to riding like a delivery rider.😁
When I first moved to Amsterdam, I thought it was beautiful to! Now that I've lived here for 11 years, it's quite a hellhole. But I'm glad people are still enjoying it on their first visit!
10:30 those are called ''brommobielen'' They are even smaller smartcars restricted to 45kmph so you can drive them with a moped license and dont have tax or MOT, Insurance is also a lot cheaper, and like you can see finding a parking spot is way easier. Theres also a handicapped variant limited to 25kmph, but those you see less often
Deliveries in any city you visit in Europe would be lovely to watch. I know Amsterdam has to be pretty in shape with all the cycling around the city lol
Love this episode, last two episodes have been 🔥 I was in Eindhoven, Helmond a week before you went out and I felt the same way. The roads and pavements were clean, everyone had a bike. People were friendly and most spoke English. It was my first time travelling alone and I had a great first experience. Deffo going back! 👍🏽

Yeah definitely no parking there. Just make sure wheelchairs can still pass and nobody will complain, but in the middle of the sidewalk like that will get you fined 100%
If you use tape on the Velcro on your new bag it will open easier. Only use it on half the Velcro. Bag still closes food stays hot half the work to open.

Barcelona or Berlin are like the London equivalent, massive and big city vibes or somewhere fancy like Nice or the port city of Marseille would make great footage. English is spoken by most. on the topic of parking wardens, they are basically gone in most of the major dutch cities. They have been replaced by cars that automatically scans plates and will deliver your fines to the address assigned to the car's plate.

Been to Amsterdam 5 times now, absolutely fell in love with the architecture, canals and even the supermarkets, everyone speaks English when they realise you can not speak Dutch, oh... And the weed is pretty decent too.
Amsterdam used to have some of the most dangerouse roads in the world at one point, once the goverment tackled the problem the roads got so safe that bikes became way more popular and it stayed like that since with them adding cycle lanes to roads when they upgrade them
@Daniel-qz8bp between 2009 and 2018 the nertherlands ranked one of the highest for road traffic accidents and deaths lol, imagine what that was like in the 50s??? In fact between 2001 and 2010 they managed a 48% decrease in such accidents and deaths and yet still rank as one of the highest only 5 years ago lol.you don't need to imagine, its all there to find on google lad. Even to this day the Netherlands has some of the most dangerous roads in the world lol Please do some research before branding people bullshitters mate.

As one who is not necessarily interested in delivery, but recommend these type of RU-vid channels because I’m an ebiker, I’m pleasantly surprised at how I enjoy the street / road views while your riding. You don’t always do those extreme time lapses/ speeding up footage. So big thanks ….
Its not asked for .There is no health insurance with the job either .Its at your own risk .The job is only for the desperate who have nothing else .This rider though does it by choice i imagine and he is good at it .I was a motorcycle courier myself in London for 7 years in the 90 s when it was a thing .I was dam lucky to survive that without death or injury .
@@anthonydowling3356 Health insurance isn't included in most jobs in the Netherlands. You have to pay a monthly fee out of your own pocket which is typically anywhere between 120 and 150 euros for the most basic plan (which is enough for most people to be fair).
Technically every worker in the Netherlands should need to have basic insurance, even if they're from the EU. So if by 4 months he doesn't get one he will get fined
@@Bolognabeefif you are contracted by an employer yes, most delivery services don't contract directly tho, you set up your own "delivery company" and then work contracts from Deliveroo, thuisbezorgd and Uber. This way they don't have to insure you or pay you if you are sick. This is changing tho with new rules about forced insurance for "self employed" people
Deliveroo share in NL was only 1%. Secondly the high court was and has now ruled against Deliveroo, stating that based on the contracts, delivery drivers are employees, which would mean liability., insurance etc..
Hi, I used to live in Amsterdam before I moved to UK and it was so good to see it again nothing changed. Also it was very interesting how hard the food delivery life is from now I won't quarrel if my food is late. Great content mate!
I've cycled almost every day since moving to The Netherlands a few years back you get used to it. You'd have been fine on an elektrische fiets, and have been legally allowed on more of the cycle lanes, as long as you avoid rush hours. The grass on the tram lines is for noise reduction.
people think amsterdam traffic or dutch traffic is chaos but its highly controlled and safe we have the best roads infra structure and public transport of the western world

Yes! Delivered for Burger n Ribs for 2 years at the Piet Heijnkade and I can tell you, biking back n forth to Oost, Ijburg, and in the city, to maybe westerpark sometimes was such an awesome experience. Smoking up, riding an electric bike, and getting paid.

I'm from the netherlands and taking the ebike is way safer than going by scooter or moppet whatever you call it, bike is also often faster than taking the the roads
About the mopads on cycling paths. The license plates are blue because they're, I believe, limited to 25km/h. Instead of the mopads with a yellow license plate which are limited to 45km/h.
At 15:58 with the pedestrian and the cyclist the traffic lights were off (due to construction) so standard rules are in play. You were on a priority road and the cyclist had yield signs so she should've stopped. But you should have yielded to the pedestrian because the traffic lights are off and it is on a crosswalk.

Mopeds with a blue numberplate used to be allowed to ride in the bicycle lanes before but that is not the case anymore. There are just a few parts of Amsterdam, mostly in the outskirts of the city where it is still allowed. People riding a moped with a blue numberplate were also allowed to ride it without wearing a helmet, but since the beginning of this year that is also not allowed anymore.
After 4 years or so of living in Amsterdam, delivering for Deliveroo for a couple months and just biking everywhere. It's so much fun to watch you explore the city I have loved to mature in. And I am really proud of myself for mostly knowing where you are by the snippets of scenery. It's amazing.
Europe is great for motorcycles as you can pretty much park anywhere as long as you are not causing an obstruction. Such a different attitude towards two wheelers in Europe, both powered and pedal powered 👍
The small cars on the sidewalks are either Canta's or Biro's. The Canta is often used by old, handicapped or poor people. The Biro is like a Canta but for rich people.

Your correct about the number plates. If you have blue number plate u are allowed to drive on bycicle paths. Blue number plate on mopeds/bikes are limited to around 45km/h (could be less) And are allowed on the bycicle path. Anything above and it`s regular yellow licence plate and need to drive on regular road.

Just some context: - Deliveroo used to deliver here but they could not hold up against the competition and recently left - "Just Eat" is a Dutch founded company called Thuisbezorgd (Home delivered) - I don't think you are actually allowed to ride the bike lanes with a yellow licence plate (just the blue ones) Edit: I learned you knew about two of those things I said as the video proceeded haha. Oops
I would also highly recommend the city of Groningen. Maybe not a city with the more busy part of Western Netherlands, but Groningen itself is a very vibrant city, and also a lot of bicycles and very nice architecture and road layouts.

Love how most people in Amsterdam speak English, so you were able to work without knowing Dutch. The tram lines with grass I've seen in Geneva as well.
You can say, most people om the Netherlands speak English. :) I live in a small town in the East, near the German border. It's even common here to talk in English when "Thuisbezorgd is coming at the door". We have many international students so you can expect any language :D

If you enjoyed Amsterdam to deliver in, go to Groningen! Similar, as it's also in the Netherlands, but muuuch nicer to cycle in due to the city layout! There I'd recommend an E-bike for sure. I've delivered there for three years on an e-bike for the difficult-to-pronounce "Thuisbezorgd" :D
As a Brit, I’m just mesmerised by the infrastructure for 2 wheels and how many people seem to be going about their business on 2 wheels with no Lycra in sight! I thought perhaps Amsterdam doesn’t have much rain but it turns out that the city not only has much more rain than London but almost as much as Manchester!
16:30 no scooter or speedpedilec may go on the cycling lanes. Blue license plate scooters are capped at 25km/h. They also may not use the cycling lane, but it feels more safe to drive there.

The mopeds with blue number plates must indeed ride on the cycle path, but they're not allowed to go faster than 25km/h and have to be calibrated/regulated in such a way their max speed can't go above 34km/h.
You should definitely try the electric bike man, I don't know who told you it was dangerous, but the Netherlands in general is litterally built around cyclist infrastructure! Its a completely different experience because it opens up different routes and shortcuts and you get to see the ins and outs of our city :)
I think the only reason it could be called 'dangerous' is because he's unfamiliar with traffic rules. 15:55 is a perfect example, he had the right of way and the cyclist could go right after him. When he's on a bike it's important to understand those triangles on the road have a meaning (similarly to the double line in Britain). Plus other things like where you can bike, how you go around people etc. The road for motor vehicles are often a little easier to understand if this is your first visit. But I agree, it's not dangerous at all but it's good advice considering he's working with a time limit in his job and we don't want him to put himself in danger.
The moped with blue licenseplates are limited to 25kmh and yellow plates are limited to 50kmh. Since 2023 helmet are required to drive on the blue ones as well, previously only the ones with yellow plates.
"Thuisbezorgd" (literally translates to home-delivered), or any of the foreign names for it (like Just Eat, or Takeaway), was founded in the Netherlands a while back. This is why it's also the one with the biggest market share over here. Deliveroo, like some people also point out in the comments, tried to compete with the Dutch delivery giant in it's home territory but failed... which is why today they are no longer around! I just found your channel and I actually enjoy this content, it's fun to watch you zoom across town to deliver food whilst exploring the areas. Maybe sometime you could try other cities in the Netherlands too, like all the big ones in the Randstad area but maybe also the ones outside of that zone like Groningen for instance! In cities like Groningen you won't have any trams swooping by but you would have a lot of bicycles ofcourse.

I have a mate on youtube who moved to amsterdam to work as a food deliver ,but the point is the guy is filming all the proces as you do but he lose his job because one of the costumers make a complaine about his video and he got fired
Do a dutch city on E-bike. Maybe Utrecht, or Groningen: something a little bit smaller. Cycle paths aren't sketchy in the slightest - as long as you know how to ride the bike.
