🦘 I flew halfway across the world to eat at Outback Steakhouse - all so I could bring you a review of the food served at an Australian themed American restaurant located in Australia by an American.

Plot twist, the Outback Steakhouse in Aspley you went to ironically was a Lone Star Steakhouse previously many years ago, and was popular back then. Only scratched the surface of things. Sauce on the pies and sausage rolls is next level. And next time you must explore the pubs and their food, that's where the real outback steakhouses are.

Yes, a meat pie is usually eaten with a big dob of tomato sauce splashed on top. And as my father (who was an Irish immigrant) taught me as a kid, the measure of a true-blue Aussie was being able to eat a pie with sauce one-handed (and these were the old-school mass-produced square "footy pies" with a runny mince & gravy filling and a thin, soggy pastry base served in a shallow & fragile foil tray) without spilling the whole lot down the front of your shirt and into your lap; the reason why it was essential that you be able to achieve this one-handed was because you'd [naturally] be holding a frosty can of beer in the other hand.

As a Queenslander on the Gold Coast I find your pronunciation of Queensland is acceptable either way. Australian food - kanga bangers (kangaroo meat sausages) , meat pies, and we fight New Zealand about the origins of lamingtons and pavlova. Other than that, yep our food is what you'd find in the US or UK. Our bread doesn't tend to be as sweet as bread in the US.That pie looked like about a 6 to me too but the best pies are from Yatala - just off the freeway half way from Gold Coast to Brisbane. The "koala" signs are really warnings about drop-bears, an aggressive and carnivorous variety of koalas that our tourism industry suppresses information about, to avoid scaring off tourists. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos!

Outback was opened because a group of rich dudes wanted a spot to have drinks and a steak after a round of golf. It got it's theme becase Crocodile Dundee was SUPER popular while they were hatching their genius plan to eat and drink for free by building their own restaurant. I worked for one, and the brand is very proud of it's origin story, and it's a central part of the onboarding process when you're hired. Another fun detail that they're weirdly proud of-- an inventor local to their original location loved it and wanted to help them streamline the Bloomin Onion. He fabricated a customized potato cutter (like for fries). They didn't accept his invention because they didn't think it was worth paying for it (he offered it up VERY cheap). He spent so much time on it and had no other use for it, so he just gave it to them for free with 0 contract etc. Naturally they immediately got a patent and now it's a cornerstone part of their very dumb lore...
