I think so too!! The psycho-psychic thing was obviously a bit, but I genuinely don’t have much knowledge about the story. From what I read I could tell that it was satirical, and I imagine much of it would have been considered dark humour in the 90s, I just found that it wasn’t very clever or funny. It was just cruel. I think that dark humour has evolved so much, that this book has just aged poorly and is fully a product of its time. I had no idea the author is gay… that’s VERY interesting and I think actually makes a lot of sense. I’ve also been in a massive reading slump so attempting to read this was ROUGH, and not just because I was straining to read the words on my awful mass paperback LOL I planned on the book being a bigger part of this video but once I realized it was not the book for me in this moment, I decided to focus more on the morning routine and tried to keep my thoughts on the book as surface level as possible. Part of me regrets not including more of my thoughts on the book in the video, but once I decided to focus more on the morning routine I just ran with it. As you said I can always return to it, which I might!

@@shawnmccomb That’s valid! I also believe there’s a right time to every book. This book was sitting on my bookshelf for YEARS before I got around to reading it, and I’m happy it turned out that way. When it’s the right time for you it’ll find you. About the mass paperback, may I suggest an e-reader? I don’t know how you feel about them but I find it really helps, especially when trying to get out of a reading slump. I do most of my reading at night but I don’t like a well-lit space. It’s really nice to be able to read in the dark comfortably. It’s incredibly light so no hand strain, you can adjust the font type and size so no eye strain either. I know, first world problems lol. But something to consider nonetheless :)

You could apply this to Fight Club too. The satire goes over peoples heads. They’re critiquing not endorsing.
