Soundbars have pretty much replaced the ol' "home theater in a box" solution, but in my experience don't offer a high fidelity sonic experience...until now? The Sonos Arc is the first soundbar that I've been impressed enough with to actually install in my living rooom. Now, should I get the subwoofer?

The good thing about this Sonos setup is that you can buy two additional speakers for real surround experience, for example 2 ikea symphonisk speaker lamps (which are Sonos and compatible, and at a good price) which you can equip with smart bulbs (such as philips hue) so you'll have 2 additional speaker, "undercover" as table lamps for your room

I’m honestly surprised you didn’t bring up the fact that Sonos continues to not support DTS decoding on their soundbars. It’s kind of a big deal for people with Blu-ray collections as the vast majority of Blu-rays that don’t have an object-based surround sound track use DTS-HD Master Audio instead of Dolby TrueHD, meaning that the audio has to be converted into a DD signal if you want to get surround sound with your Sonos surround setup. EDIT: The future called. Sonos now supports DTS decoding on their soundbars.

I have the Arc, Sub 3 with 2 One SL's as rear speakers and I love this set. First soundbar I ever bought its expensive but very good performing

@Filip Gimell I sold the entire set but just because I was in need of money, I wish I still had the set and I plan on buying a set in the future again. The only annoying/problematic things for me were the software updates and the app. Sometimes a speaker wouldn't connect after an update and I'd have to reset it and re-add it and such. The app was also a bit laggy sometimes, but this was just for the first couple months. I don't remember when it was exactly but they came with a big software update and it made everything work effortlessly like it should. I personally see Sonos as a good brand, like Apple-tier, they make good quality products but it is a bit expensive, for the same amount of money (or less) you could get a nice wired system but with Sonos you're paying mostly for the simplicity of setup and use and for me that was worth it and the sound quality is great imo too. If you are taking the plunge i'd say definitely get a sub with it, imo its a must (unless you get the Five's, even then it would be a very nice touch)

I got the Sonos Arc and was on a waitlist to buy the Subwoofer. As soon as I connected it to my TV and used the soundbar, I cancelled the subwoofer order. The Arc is insanely loud and bassy. Every review I've read holds back on hyping how good the complete sound is. In an apartment, the subwoofer would be unethical lol.

The iOS app allows you to ‘tune’ your system which adjusts the DSP based on the room the speaker is in. It actually works quite well. You may be even more impressed after trying that.

Great video! I have it since few days. Amazing sound. I am using the HDMI return port on my LG CX6 (port #: 2) and plugged it on my SONOS ARC. Please make sure to use the provided cable within the ARC or a compatible one as SONOS app will not recognize the sound-bar. I lost few hours debunking that issue until I have replaced the HDMI cable within the SONON one...

Probably 20 years ago I got hold of a set Logitech speakers (sub and two satellites) from work... I think they were customer returns. I used them the rest of the time at that job and when the site shut down I was able to keep them. My mom is using them now and they still sound great.

When I shopped for surround sound systems 10 years ago, I found a dude who was selling a high end 5.1 surround system for $185. JVC receiver, subwoofer, ATC speakers. Was glorious. Ever since I've only shopped in the used market, the enthusiasts have the best gear and sell for dirt cheap.

I just finished installing a Sonos Arc with Gen 3 Sub and 2 Sonos Ones as surrounds in my Master bedroom last week and I absolutely love it yes it's expensive but the quality is undeniable I find myself wanting to watch movies more in the bedroom than the living room which has a Nakamichi 7.2.4 Shockwafe system in it which is also fairly pricy at $1000.

I went from a large home theater setup to a simple soundbar because I was tired of the speakers being in the way. We are currently decluttering and realized how much space the speakers and such took up for something we hardly used.

Some of the dialogue reverb is mixed into the left and right channels in the 5.1 surround audio in My Little Pony. Perhaps that sort of advanced mixing isn't something the older soundbar was designed for.

The Sonos connect and Connect Amp where not a bad price at all. They are basically a decent DAC and streamer product for your analogue traditional hifi. At there price point they were exceptionally good.

I bought one of these a month ago to use in my condo and the quality has been super impressive as Linus says (from Netflix and Amazon built into the TV). However, I don't think I am getting good results with a UHD player plugged into the TV - Atmos doesn't seem to work this way. So to get the best out of this unit, are you limited to using built in apps on the TV?

I compared it to the Samsung one we set up in the lounge last year and the LG unit I installed during "cleanest living room". Neither are current models but they served their purpose well enough to give me the context I needed. It's not as good as my old speakers, but I paid $500 For each of the two stereo channels, plus center, plus receiver, plus sub. Not really comparable. What it is is "good enough for almost anyone" and if you don't think it's good enough for you, you're probably right and you should buy discrete speakers.

I got the HT-ZF9, far before the video came online on this channel. And i love it, and has good audio and connectivity imo. Especially if i compare it to soundbars family and friends have. Just ignore the soundbar always suck people, yes i know standalone speakers provide better audio but the eye wants something to and if you don't have a ton of space, a decent soundbar is a good option. Tl;dr: If you like it now who cares what LTT or others thinks.

That is exactly the same as when I bought the JBL SB200 for my Living room: it plays everything with good bass from low sources to high quality sources. But the cost was 300€ 😅.

@@surajnanda1712 yeah I know but in My living Room I had no space, so, also for the cost, the SB200 was really enough. It also have lots of bass for his size. I don't regret the lack of Subwoofer. I've also Heard in a store the new JBL Bar with the SUB and compared to this it is really trash...

Just replaced my Nakamichi 7.2.4 with the Arc system (two Gen 3 subs and two Fives for surrounds). Easy set-up, the app works without issue, easy to hear/understand dialogue on LG OLED 77C1, sounds just as good with music, and no fiddling with the settings other than volume. I already had two Beam systems (sub+surrounds) in my office and Master bedroom.

Interesting, I have 2 Sonos One (latest gen) and my experience is that the software is way behind the hardware. That is mostly the case when combined with google home and music casting though. It is glitchy and lacking a lot of critical features that are simply not intergrated with google home but accessible within the Sonos app, which is itself a bit of a buggy mess. Never tried the soundbar, but with the Sonos Ones I really miss the subwoofer as the lows are a lackluster experience. Could be a difference in purpose though, as I primarily use mine to listen to music and not AV.

Your set up looks great. I just couldn't ever imagine me, and the better half, ever having something like that. I guess once you've had a... full blown, dedicated room and system. It's impossible to walk away, and only have, the basics. But, that's what makes electronics so much fun! In the end, so long as all of us have a smile on our face, that's what ultimately matters! @@mrsj1417 Actually vinyl. Thorns SD 1170, Ortofon dual tracking pick up. Ran thru audio note single servo magnetic balanced outputs. And yes, there's nothing like the Sunday, New York times! Been a recording engineer my entire life. Depending on your age, and listening tastes. You have perhaps listened to quite a few of the bands, and individual singers, whose music I've recorded, and put out for all individuals, such as yourself, can enjoy. Music, lives from within. It's only when it's realized, does it help shape who, and what we become.

Cool video, asking some stuff for a friend ;) - Did you plugged everything by ethernet cable, disabled wireless on the devices and turn off audio compressing? - Did you put the sub on the side of the sofa or on the back and after used their "true play" setting to calibrate the devices for the room? - Lastly ho good was the experience watching Interstellar? If you didn't try the first the system with the 2 first questions set up, it would be cool if you did it and shared the result. Since I leave in an apartment, meaning a lot of noise from other wifi devices, once I did the above my experience improved from is a good enough setup to why is my skin always looking like a chicken. Keep up sending us this quality videos,

I have the original sound bar, sub, and speakers that I bought back in the day. I will say that watching movies with all 4 speakers is very similar to being in a movie theater if you turn it up. The Sub for my setup makes a huge difference. I live in an apartment with my 16 year old daughter and she is always turning it down on me when I am listening to music while doing chores or asks why we have to have it so loud when watching movies. If you turn the system up and the sub up when watching an action movie you can literally feel the bass. This is probably the best investment I have made personally. Side note (my daughter is so courteous to other people that most of the time she will turn the volume really low and use subtitles so as not to disturb anyone. Great product and would recommend it Sonos over Bose to anyone.

Soundbars are for space saving, with the additional of a sub woofer, the sound overall is acceptable, but they will not have the power that a large system can give. Its simply not possible to get powerful quality sound from tiny full range speakers in a tiny cheap plastic enclosure due to its size and lack of coupling to the air.
