ive felt that just having good items, for 1 less augment (lets just say for the sake of argument the twisted fate doesnt give you an item, and "only" rerolls your items to what u need) is a decent tradeoff. You get 3 augments. you can play any comp or unit the game is allowing you to (sometimes you get tripple contested, with perfect items. and you lose, because pivoting into another comp is too risky or gets cucked by rng too) if you ask me. twisted is the only good pick, unless you have a good gameplan for "expect to get cucked, play around that"
I mean the problem right now is that the gap between best in slot and other items is just too huge. The second problem is that the best in slot items are also heavily contested since many different comps have the same bis items, with the worst offenders needing two of the same component (blue buff and rapidfire cannon). Those two things result in the fact that being able to 'guarantee' bis items is huge. But it says less about tf being op and more that the state of game balance is just bad.
Tahm kench is really good, I often win late game with it. Ever since I started tahm kench, I three star units more and level up more. The early money and interest helping me level up faster allows me to not only get higher level units first, but even more of them
