I Found A Gun In The River While Kayaking

I found a gun while I was floating along in my kayak looking for stuff in the river without using my metal detector. But I was metal detecting and searching the river for treasure throughout most of the day. It was a great outdoor adventure and my friend Rich and I had a blast. Plus we get caught in a nasty thunderstorm while detecting and it wouldn't be a Chigg video without some springs and CAVES!

there were tens of millions used in the war. when soldiers were captured their weapons were often just tossed in creeks. silt buried them and every now and then a good storm will bring one to the surface.

The buggy step and musket were to die for Chigg. I gotta say you must love the rain, or else you are a rain magnet, as you seem to be caught in it far too often. LOL This was wonderful to see and hope you go back soon for another adventure. That spring with its waterfalls and cave was so magical, it really drew me in. I don't know how you were able to keep yourself from going in deeper to check it out?! What a lovely place and so full of curious things, and beautiful too. Thanks for taking us along. The waterfall and giant spring were amazing, so unspoilt considering the locals have been using the river as a trash dump for so many centuries. The condition of the musket was unusually good, only just washed into the river from a dry burial place, only a few feet from someones new looking back yard fence ha ha. We love all your videos but there is something about a river hunt that is special, you have managed to train yourself to be able to hunt places most people will never be able to, respect for that, a natural curiosity and military trained tenacity. I was never expecting to see anybody kayaking down the river let alone a person medal detecting but when it turns out you found a musket and allowed me to take a photo with it it was totally worth the sunburn

I would love to see more of that mill area - You really got the archaeologist in me perked up. I guess that's one of the reasons why I've enjoyed your channel for so long. You're doing archaeology - Albeit it is a different kind of archaeology than I learned in college (I was studying prehistory), it is historic archaeology, and you make it FUN! 😸 Nice job. Those USGS river-level things are usually called "gauging stations" on topo maps.

Those rings are for holding post and beam structures together. They are sandwiched between two timbers in circular grooves cut into both timbers and then a bolt is run thru both timbers inside the rings position to hold everything together. The rings are sort of anti-sheering rings. Salvaged tons of them tearing down old WWII air-force barracks.

At 18:01 when you moved the rock beside the tractor part, there was a nut (fastener) laying just to the right of it. It moved when you fanned the gravel away.

Who needs a detector when you got the Chigg with you. First a musket then a horse shoe. You must have eagle eyes to see things from a distance in moving water and decipher what it is. Great job Chigg. You better not do that to many times when you got friends hunting with you. They will start leaving you at the boat ramp. Sure do hope you do a preservation video and let us admirers see how she looks all spifed up. Not that you will have to do a lot with it. I believe as you said that she recently washed out of the hill side. It looked almost perfect. WOW IM IMPRESSED. Hard to top that one.... but as always Happy Hunting.

Chigg, if your ever in Arkansas stop by blanchard springs and check it out, they have a big cave system and a spring that flows 7000 gallons per minute. Do some research on it and checknit out, youll love it man.

Yeah, I'm a bit skeptical on that musket find. I'm not saying it's not the real deal, but with a find like that, I'd hope you would put out a clean up video, stamp markings. It looked like most of the hardware was still attached and looked so pristine. Would love to see more!

Wow I've been waiting to see that musket - so where's the wrap-up, the striup was good along with the footplate, you could imagine some poor wagon coming to grief there in a wild storm...?!! Moar whacky weather, it seems. Keep safe & have fun, was a very lovely river worth exploring again in the fall perhaps, when the weather has calmed down...
