When you pick up a hat it’ll tell you when you pick it up on the left of the screen. If you pick up the wrong hat nothing will show up. For example the conductor hat you got isn’t the conductor hat because it wasn’t glowing and it didn’t pop up on the left of the screen
Many hat's he's picking up, doesn't have the glow effect on them, When they lay in the ground. Which means they aren't the right one/hat's that get saved.
Also, didn't show notification in lower right screen that confirms it. Happened several times, but one example was the conductor hat, which is more purple than blue on the saveable version. The blue one and white with blue stripes version will disappear if you reload the game.
Great video! But I'm afraid that the challenge was not completed successfully. You see this hats are special because they get stored and then saved in your inventory. The pic of them appearing in the right of the the screen plus the saved in storage sound efect is the indication of you finding the right hat, like that pirate hat, that's the hat, you get the logo on screen and the sound efect. But the conductors hat you got from the guy that sell you tickets in the train station was not the right one, it didn't got saved in your wardrobe. It's kinda weird how they work, because they can be identical, but only one of them is the one. It's like that guide you were reading says, "a lot of npcs have them, but only one has the correct one". So yeah, kind of a nitpick but it is what it is. And I almost forgot, the other sight that show with is one of the hats is that they glow before picking them up. You can see this in this video, the right ones, the ones that will get saved will glow, and the "wrong" ones don't glow in the floor before you pick em up
The conductor hat is better to find at annesburg since the door to enter the clerks room is unlocked and just barge him so he runs and then attack him outside the town
theres an easyer way to get hats off of nps. just shoot at the rim and it should pop right off, most npcs dont even fight back if you do that. if the hat doesnt have a rim shoot at the very top
You can actually climb the walls of Fort Wallace on one side with a large milk cart, fight all enemies inside until you find the Military Mountie Hat! Even as early as Chapter 2 that method works since the hat spawns in the base! Also, Arthur can get all New Austin hats and masks early with glitches!
You can also chuck dynamite over the walls of the fort and the hat might end up outside the wall. That's how I got it on my first play through as Arthur. Like you were implying, i also, used the Bronte, Man of Honor replay glitch to get everything in New Austin and by extension of the drinking yourself into Mexico glitch and the long walk through the glitchy untextured zone: got everything in Guarma, including the sea turtle sketch.
@@MaynardCrow I’ve actually went to Guarma during Chapter 2 for the sun hat 😎! Also if you’re at chapter 4 with Arthur YES but if it’s any earlier or later while still playing as him you’ll have to use the buggy method to avoid the sniper. You know your stuff my friend!!
@@jk-474 Back at ya. If you get a good save getting into Guarma the long way, you can avoid the sniper in most parts of the map. Been over a year since I had a save there, but invisa-instakill-douche might have activated in a certain part of the plantation field. If so, you still respawn in Guarma. Never had an issue in any other part of the unfinished map with sniper. Getting back to mainland can be an issue if you don't come with a shitload of horse-crack in your inventory for the donkey you gotta steal to get home.(drug mule? I'll show myself out for dad joke.) Getting the sharks to spawn, especially hammerhead is the biggest timesuck of everything to see there. Spawn chance is small and reduced by sslightly larger odds of the more common shark spawn which is rare as hell compared to the green sea turtle which all take up same slot for an animal spawn.
@@MaynardCrow that donkey SUCKS! Although, I must say finding a horse outside the map, then taking the LONG way into Guarma, heading south around Shady Belle until the map switches and then riding in from the same route you’d leave from is FAR more fun! Still need a bunch of horse stimulant and food but MUCH faster and more fun exploring Guarma that way. For the hat I recommend insta death to respawn there, get the hat then get out with the donkey. Weird thing here too, once at El Presidio I managed to whistle and call my main horse off the map from NOWHERE! I haven’t been able to replicate that but at that fort they left in Mexico from 1 that’s unfinished background for 2 🤣🤣
@@MaynardCrow My favorite hat in the entire game is the Gambler’s Hat off that sick guy in Armadillo! I use the buggy glitch to get that early on in Chapter 2 on any playthrough I do, Arthur was DEFINITELY supposed to be in New Austin and considering John has 2 separate Gambler’s Hats (one from the first game and the other from the main story if you pick it up in epilogue), I DEFINITELY feel like the Armadillo Gambler’s Hat was originally intended for Arthur since he doesn’t have any available normally in that style! Can’t recommend it enough to anyone who doesn’t have it on Arthur, it just fits SO well!
I missed that one on my first play. He stopped spawning early in game for some reason. I don't recall killing him, but might have already triggered all his unique dialogue encounters. There was a metric fuckton of missing hats in his list though.
bro did not get the news boy cap, the gambler hat, or the conductors hat, or the high hat, or the plantation gamblers hat, or the workmans flat cap, or the straw boater hat, or the mountaineer hat.
It’s enraging you can’t use the newsboy hat because it has multiple colours and there’s no glitches when you wear it and yet you still can’t keep it permanently
idk but correct me if im wrong but I think that while he was trying to get the newsboy cap a supply wagon went by and the driver actually had the conductors hat
Along with well over a dozen others, easily. I didn't think of that one specifically, but yeah, behind the waterfall where the actor jumped, next to his cigarette card. It's one of the better ones, in that you get a lot of unique npc lines accusing you of dressing like a lawman.

It's called a Nevada Hat, not a Lawman Hat. Wonder if that implies a double life for the actor who jumped off the waterfall. Hell, Maybe he survived like Richard Kimball in the 90s movie adaptation of the fugitive and was set up by a one armed man. Maybe the hat belonged to a Red Dead Tommy Lee Jones and he still pursues the dude across the desert. To be a turn 'o century Mulder: "The Truth is Out There." and "I Want to Believe."
I have the Gaucho hat with Arthur is chapter 3. I can't remember what NPC I got it from but it's definitely available without having to wait till your John.
You missed up hats there was some haps I didn't see like the Scarecrow one like I'm pretty sure you've been the Mountaineer hat you got was also not the right one but you did Miss quite a few hats for sure
What If start brand new gameplay in, Red Dead repentions2 or Red Dead Repentions, But you Have to count everyhting things, Every food you eat Every guns you pay Every clothes (and something more)
You can't get the one from Guarma without exploiting glitches. Better to exploit same glitches to get everything as Arthur, cayse John's nerfed swimming makes getting back from Guarma dicey. I've heard you can't get the classic racoon hat that mountain man wears in the Valentine saloon as John because it doesn't save in inventory in epilogue. Never found out, cause I missed it on my first play through and he stopped spawning for me on those saves in chapter 3 or so.
@@moypatsiye9193 Best wishes. Hope you catch em all. If you are missing something and not committed to playing exclusively with updates and patches, consider deleting all the game data(not necessarily save files, but can't load them without whatever patches installed when save was made). Reinstall vanilla game from disk and enjoy clipping through any wall, going into any unfinished part of the map they tried to keep you out of, see animals that don't spawn normally in game. I highly recommend the experience. Just keep a couple spots for a separate save open and reinstall updates when you want to use your old save files that were patched.
You can get an army hat after killing one of the soldiers in the mission ‘The King’s Son’. A lot of hats missing in this video, and some of them were not even completed because they didn’t add to your inventory.
He doesn't wait the in game years you know that right it he showd that he has a mod menu to change year he just changes the years and he just search location he doesn't find them
You unfortunately missed the civil war hat( I think that’s what it’s called). When doing the bounty mission with Lindsey Woffard, there is a house inside the fort. The house has a hidden basement and you can find the hat there
One of the civil war hats can be found on the raider dicks in the southeast part of the northern map. I forget where you get the civil war calvary hat. I think it's a found hat.
Biggest missable hat you missed is the classic racoon hat that only spawns on the mountain man in the tavern in Valentine. I missed it on my first play through, because he stopped spawning there before I realized I missed out on it. I've heard it doesn't save in your stolen hats if you get it as John, but can't confirm cause my first play through, he stopped spawning during chapter 3 or 4. Must have died somehow and I didn't see it or maybe it was because I had triggered all his scripted stories from going there too often.
