I finally bit the bullet and took the trouble of moving my temporary fencing into some of the wooliest parts of the farm and the results have been amazing. The sheep are thriving in the cooler environment provided by all the foliage and are looking better than ever given the diversity of forage. We often think of forage as what grows on the ground, but for a sheep there can be just as much forage growing above the ground. This allows me to provide more pasture to cattle that was previously being eaten by the sheep. Win, win, win.

Those kids chairs that people throw out. You can use them as sheep/goat ladders. So, they can get higher. It also stacks. They will stand on the chair and stand on other goats to browse higher.

I’m considering adding sheep to my small farm. I’ve been afraid to use electric fence exclusively to protect my potential new flock. We do have a few coyotes due you find the fence you use to be adequate?

I have not had any predator issues so long as the sheep stay behind the fence. I have watched dogs come up to the fence, sniff it with their nose, get shocked and then avoid it all together. I think that is what happens with coyotes etc. The problem I have had with the shorter fence is the occasional lamb that realizes it can jump the fence. You don’t have that issue with taller fence.
