man. most people would think their old art is cringe. but jazza just embraces all of it. jazza is one in a million person.

Can we just all appreciate how good his art teachers actually just have been. To care enough to make do stuff like getting him to relax and focus less on perfection. Heck, I’m in art II this year and I’m being paired with art I kids.

This is really pointing out how shitty my high school art education was. And i think a lot of American schools are this way unless it’s an art focused school. My art class was basically...free color time, I learned nothing lol

I love going back to old art and looking through it. I sadly accidentally threw out a large stack of old art when we moved the last time. How did I do that you ask? I put it down in the wrong spot and couldn't find it before the burn people came ..... The worst part is a lot of it was stuff I hadn't even gotten around to digitizing....

I do this like once a year... lol I go out into the garage and find all of my old sketch books and remember when I used to love drawing all the time. This was refreshing to see someone else do it too.

I wanted to go to art school when I got out of high school, had an interview and everything. But my dad never supported me or encouraged me, called me a disappointment, so needless to say I never got the chance to go to art school because of him. He also told me that art was a waste of time. I wanted to be an art teacher for younger kids and even use it as a form of therapy for those who were hurting or struggling, but was told that my dream and idea for that kind of job was unrealistic and that I should be a nurse instead, which I hated the idea of. I'm happy to see others fulfill their dreams when I have all but given up on mine. Keep doing what you're doing Jazza and all those who find joy in creating work for others to enjoy. Follow your dreams, don't be like me and let others put you down.

That lesson of drawing faster and loosening up is incredibly useful for me. As a scientist getting into art having avoided it like the plague, I'm struggling with trying to portray absolutely everything perfectly. That sounds like a technique I need to apply repeatedly in the hopes that I can break through that mental block. Along with, you know, learning to actually draw at all as I do it.

I wish some art youtubers uploaded their >real< first drawings. It feels like every youtuber has always known exactly how to draw perfect proportions and hands and clothes and all the things you need to practise from the moment they first took a pen into their hands.
