This insanely nice apartment is full on luxury, but its technically basement level in one of New York City’s most popular neighborhoods. Would you live here? I definitely would!

$8998 in NYC just shows this city is out of control. I used to watch these videos for fun but not anymore. I know people, including myself, with multiple college degrees that can’t even afford a fraction of this. It’s sad.

Manhattan is crazy, and Chelsea is one of the most expensive neighborhoods. Most New York City residents live in the other boroughs that are much less expensive (Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn, Staten Island). Even upper Manhattan from Harlem north is less expensive. The people who live south of 125th street are either very affluent, have a rent controlled apartment, are students living in university dorms or faculty living in subsidized housing, or people living is super small micro studio apartments.
@Bobrogers99

For the price I expected at least three bedrooms, but I counted only two. Did I miss one? They are in the basement with limited sunlight and are subject to dampness (and flooding). It's a nice apartment, but not $9,000 nice, and if I made over the required minimum of $360,000/year you wouldn't find me sleeping in the cellar.

Hurricanes are very rare in New York... Snow would be a bigger issue. A Category 5 hurricane is not expected to occur here under current climate conditions.

I live overseas. The more I watch your videos the less I understand why people love NYC and the views of buildings with spots of green and blue. I like seeing how others live but am amazed at how much I don’t need! If you have time to answer, who can afford these apartments? Why would I want a a 2 bath apartment with both on the lower level snd nothing on the upper level? So inconvenient! Can people really afford these places? Do that many people really share flats with others just so they can live in NYC? What is it that draws you there? Just curious - your videos are well done snd something always gives me a chuckle. Definitely educational for us non-NYC Types

Yes, I agree, it is interesting to see how others live. But a person would have to be pulling down some serious $ to afford a 9K rent or even 4.5K with a roommate. And in the end, it's still NYC, where there is as much ugly as there is picturesque. At 06:00 AM this morning, I walked around outside listening to birdsong, watched the daybreak, then crossed the road to walk a short distance to the river gurgling with the snow melt. Wouldn't trade that for any pad in NYC no matter how upscale!! I get all the light and fresh air I want for free. Of course, it can come with coyotes, bobcats. bears and fisher cats so you have to be careful. But there are also owls, dove-tailed hawks, cardinals, red-winged blackbirds, downy woodpeckers, deer and an occasional moose. You "pick your poison," I guess... 🤷‍♂ Chuck in Northern New England

My 1st apt was on the Lower East Side on Rivington St. Back then cabs did not go below Houston into this area because of the people lined up at buildings to buy drugs. The area had some cool lounges, a few tiny cool shops & I loved it! 4 years later in 99 the developers came in & started changing the area. Now, it’s filled with glass buildings, a Target, Equinox, etc… every neighborhood changes, look at DUMBO! Used to be all artist lofts & now there’s billion dollar lofts & parks! I miss the mid 90’s though cause I got to see a lot of the old & the beginning of the new. Today is the future…

I think you could get something similar sized and equally as nice in an elevator tower. Where you have cool views, are above the traffic noise, probably wouldn't have any outdoor space but the weather sucks for 5 months of the year anyways in NYC. Plus you wouldn't slip/fall/kill yourself on those stupid icy/no sunshine stairs all winter.

I find it hard to believe that anyone with that kind of money ($108K/yr for rent!) would want to live in a humble apartment like that. Just pay for a $300/day hotel room. Even in Manhattan that would get you pretty nice accommodations. You could live at the Ace Hotel in midtown with daily maid service, access to their common spaces, exercise room, roof terrace, etc. Also, does that rent include utilities?

This looks nice and a little quirky BUT I'm in Australia and the big $$$$$$$$$$$$$ rent is scary. You could get a mortgage for a nice home 3 bedroom HOUSE, with large back garden for a little more here in some areas of Melbourne Australia (exchange rate)...AND for that rent here you would get a mini palace.

If not for the expensive rent, it's mighty nice

Really nice apartment in a great area but so expensive. So many people must be priced out of the market and end up living with their families or in poor housing.

Even if I could afford the place, it'd be a no from me. There are at least two doors where I don't control who enters, and I don't know where they lead to.
