I am VERY fortunate to have an avian vet who makes house calls! She is the only avian vet in our province to do so and my birds have been under her care for close to 12 years. She does not have an office and only makes house calls. When there is a problem that she cannot handle (xrays needed, etc.) or a real emergency, I use a vet hospital open 24/7 that is about 15 minutes away by car. Otherwise, she can perform all the basics at home, give injections, gather droppings that she later analyses, etc. She also performs euthanasia at home, which is a godsend, much less stressful for the subject. My vet sure makes my life a lot easier...

@@wrinklesandsprinkles Yes, indeed, as I stated, I am very fortunate and grateful, especially since I am going on in age, and taking 7 birds to the vet for their annual exams would be quite an ordeal for me... Also, the vet hospital I use has 2 top vets with American Board of Veterinary Practitioners diplomas in avian practice. It is very modern with all the latest technologies.

Good job , Capri , for successfully prepared a meal for the fam. It is quite a task from gathering the ingredients to cooking it and then plate it beautifully, and serve it on time. I thought Jamie was joking , when she said Capri was preparing dinner. I cooked too , when I was Capri's age. I made snacks for myself , to save my allowance money for something else ( maybe some cute notebooks , or pens ,etc).

I like the way the vet phrased jinx assessment. I'm guessing hes the most reliable of your macaws though and hence gets more treats. Good to hear about comet. I thought flying took a little more out of him than average so he decided that wasnt for him, and he has a cute way of running anyway. Good video

Don’t be too afraid of the hair dryer, take it from someone who must regularly bathe a scissor-beak chicken who obviously is incapable of preening due to her beak’s alignment. If you hold the hairdryer in the same spot for too long and keep it too close to the skin you will get an “Ouch!” I remember this happening to me when my mom would blow dry my hair and a kid so I try to remember my experience as a child when drying my Chicken. I keep the focus of the dryer constantly moving, a good distance from her body and I keep my hand near where the blow dryer is aimed because if I’m starting to feel that my hand is too hot, it’s too hot for my bird too. I also always use the coolest setting and watch for signs that she’s getting hot. My blow dryer has a button to blow unheated air, and even though I have to keep it held down the entire time I’m using this setting, the cooler air flow helps prevent her from overheating.

I use a blowdryer on my eclectus because he requests it (he never lets me dry my hair in peace, he flies over to me and flaps at me after our showers). I do a little blowdry on him and then me and we just take turns. He definitely preens much more after doing this and seems much happier. He also lays down in front of our xbox when we play video games and he moves away from it when he gets too warm and then goes back later. I wouldn't worry about the blowdryer with your birds, but I use ceramic.

I dont know why shes like this now. Shes never bitten either of us but shes getting where she threatens with a loud angry scream/bark when she doesnt like something. Also she seems to have seperation anxiety , she calls out loudly anytime she cant see one of us. More than anything I would love to have help with behavior

My annual bird exam is a bit different than the usual ones, as I have to always get bloodwork done for my cockatiel. She gets a full body exam, weight check and we go over diet, habits and other things I've noticed her doing. If she's not broody, (she has chronic egg laying, I've been able to reduce clutches from 4 clutches with 5/6 eggs to one every year. I would like to make her stop completely tho) we're good to go. If she's had her clutch by then and it's been a week or two we get x rays done too just to make sure everything's alright inside.

Thank you for sharing! About 2 years ago we changed our vet to one that was most recommended by the community for birds (and luckily they're closer to our house). I believe they just do blood work and a general look-over. They've done gram stains but I think it's only for initial appointments and if there's concerns. Question- do your birds have to get regular trims? I feel like no matter how many natural and/or cement looking perches we get our birds always have insane nails!
@kyraiswatching6707
@kyraiswatching6707 4 месяца назад
Try to get some more natural perches if you haven't already. We use cherry wood and cork! Works wonders for nails and beaks. One of our amazones likes to chew on the cork bark like we chew chewing gum - hillarious! They're best when all the bark is still intact. When we know where they come from (like from neighbouring gardens when they trim their trees) we don't even clean them very much, as to not losen the bark. After about 4 weeks most of the bark is gone, so for nailtrimming purposes we change them for new ones if we have enough left. Otherwise just clean them regularly. We still do a yearly trim but it's more for us to not get as many scratches as their nails tend to get pointy by then.

Hello, I know this is off topic of your video but i've been planning to get budgies for a few months now and have done alot of research. One thing I can't seem to find anything on those is bonding them with others. I don't mean breeding, I want to get 2 budgies preferably but was told to get them at seperate times, what i'm looking to find out is if it's safe to put to who don't know eachother in the same enclosure or is their a process to bonding them together as flock members?

@FukaiKokoro

Hybrids suck for that..kinda like the one type of snake a think a ball python some breeders breed for certain colors, there's a gene that can pop up that makes them shaky and wobbly. Also the same with short snouted dogs or dogs bread for looks over health. Like yeah, sometimes it can be cool and fine. Unfortunately there's the occasional baby who gets the bad roll of the dice. Especially with dogs because all of them come out with the bad roll because that's the intended result.

Is it ok to give a budgie gas to put them to sleep while they drummel the beak and take his blood?? They put my budgie under and the next thing I knew they came in to tell me he was gone. To say I’m devastated is an understatement. I’m not sure if they stressed him out and that’s why he passed away or if they gave him too much gas?? They reassured me before the procedure that it was something that they always do…even on budgies. I’m heart broken.

My GCC would bite the shit out of you if you tried to hold her that way. I rescued her 3 months ago from the tiniest cage I’ve ever seen, she was so neglected as well. Now she’s in a huge cage and she’s out all day. She can be so mean but I guess I would be too if you shoved me in a closet for a year and a half. The last couple weeks she’s been getting pin feathers coming in and it’s made her a monster. I love her anyway. She’s terrified of the chopstick (training stick) she use to fly away at first sight of it so I started doing it in the cage, now she’s just trying to kill the stick.

That does not sound unreasonable if the rest of her diet is on point and healthy. Although, each bird is different with how they handle the fat from nuts so that is why it is important to do annual bloodwork and have wellness exams to make sure that all is good. :) birdtricksstore.com/blogs/birdtricks-blog/treat-size?_pos=4&_sid=d18b33867&_ss=r

It's kind of funny.They only know how to train birds.They don't know anything about them.If your cockatoo wasn't producing powder, you would definitely know it.There are 2 different subspecies or possibly 3 of the Rose breasted cockatoo.Some of them are more deeply colored than others I believe. There's an Eastern and a Western subspecies, Also, part of the feather issues with Cressie could be if they're spraying her with aloe. Same thing with Bondi on powder birds. You don't want anything but plain. Clean water to bathe them with. Don't mix anything at all in their water.

All 3 of them are male, and they all love her, hate the rest of us, and they yell 24/7, it is driving me nuts. Any advice? She is so invested in them, and wants the best for them, but they are not happy, she has to work all day 5 days a week, and she can’t physically clean their cages and hold them all. I have said that she should get them all to a sanctuary but she says it breaks her heart to think about. I don’t like them, they all hate me with a passion. Will physically attack by flying at my head and try to bite me and the rest of us. The sulfur crested in bald from plucking his feathers out, and the other two ,the goffin and the macaw constantly want attention. I can’t do anything for them because they try to attack me when I even get a little close to their cages.

bird tricks usually doesn't respond to comments, so i'll try to give what advice i can (mind that i'm not particularly good at it), based on what i learned from them. if you need more reasons for convincing your mom to rehome them, or want to attempt caring for them despite everything, here's some stuff they need, the most obvious things aside: they need to be trained to tolerate other people, through positive reinforcement. hating everyone besides her isn't good for them, either. it stresses them out, so that they're likely to pluck themselves, and generally have worse health. there's a few videos on here on training birds to be nicer, and there's a lot to be learned from them. it needs to be made sure that there's nothing making them hormonal (like dark hiding spots, nesting material, being pat on the back regularly), because that would be one cause of their aggression, and making them more possessive of their bonded partner (your mom). it's also very important that they get enrichment like toys, varied foods, and exercise. constant boredom is a serious issue for something as intelligent as a parrot, causing them to scream, bite others, pluck, and sometimes even mutilate themselves. ..your mom is unambiguously neglecting her pets. regardless of how much she loves them; keeping them like that, unable to care for them but refusing to let them go because it would hurt her own feelings... i don't think i have to tell you that that's a messed up thing to do. like, imagine if someone did that with a human child, which, parrots are about as intelligent as young children. it's also really unfair to everyone else, who has to live with her loud aggressive big parrots and risk getting hurt by them, just because she's refusing to make that decision. it's sad she can't care for them, but they can't just stay like that. and if she gives them a better home, she can rest easy knowing they're well cared for. if all else fails, you can always try to get her birds taken away. wouldn't be nice for her, but it's an option.
@kaisalidstrom
@kaisalidstrom 4 месяца назад
