Can confirm, diamond point is my favorite quartz spot in AZ. It's beautiful even if you don't find a single piece but I've never not found anything up there 😂 I'm dying to go back even just for a hike but it's death hot rn even up there

I've never been but would love to! Nothing better than rockhounding and finding. Actually, I rarely come home from anywhere without a rock(s), mesquite pods, wild flowers, sticks and or photographs! Lol

Thank you so much for posting this. My family used to go there when I was a kid. It was always fun except my Dad liked to get there very early so he might have a chance of finding crystals glinting as the sun came up.

@Ken-pf5yl dad's a smart and dedicated man! I've found many from those lucky reflections. Also the sunrise is so beautiful and the weather can be incredible up there. Thank you!

I love Diamond Point, it made me appreciate all that was around me. So much fun, my best time to hunt for them is just about dark. I turned on my flashlight to find my way back to my car. The ground was covered with diamonds. What an awesome experience!!!

Thank you for posting this!! I’m an avid rockhounder & have been trying to find info on this place for a while. Need to figure out if I can get there by Mustang, though lol.

It's nice to see how far you've come with rock hounding, but now I have a few questions. 1. Can you make money out of rockhounding? if so how much? is it based on quality, clarity, size? 2. How long have you been rockhounding? 3. What's your biggest crystal find ever? What's the size?
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks 11 месяцев назад
Yeah you can make money rockhounding. Depends on what you're doing at what scale. Ive been doing it about 4 years ish. Trips like this are more for fun but also at least cover the cost of the trip. Working for mines and having claims is where you would make alot more. Usually working for mines you are working for a cut of what you get into. The biggest crystals.... hmm probably a few quartz I dug at Hallelujah Junction. I guess I have some pretty big Fluorite clusters as well. I've accumulated some pretty valuable specimens but I keep them in my personal collection so idk how much I'd sell them for 😆
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks 11 месяцев назад
I also buy wholesale lots and import multiple kilos of crystals and to resell alot more often than selling the ones I actually dig right now. But that's so I can be establishing that part of the business as I grow. Eventually, I'd like to mostly sell only what I dig myself. But I got alot of work to do until then.

I go there some times and never have this much luck however last time I found an arrow head which was cool

Wow that's awesome! I'd love to find an arrowhead there. That's much more rare than the crystals I'd bet!

My lady and i are headed up there next weekend. It'll be my third trip, her first. I've never found anything, but this time i plan on hiking much further out! Last time i was there i ended up near a fenced area and a big (nasty) pond. I think I'll go the other way this time. Was there a particular side if NF65 that you think was better to look on?
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks Месяц назад
@CoffeeKen follow my video and keep a sharp eye to the ground. I promise you will find many! Remember to really stop and look close where there are exposed spots that smaller rocks settle. Best of luck! I hope you find some amazing ones!
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks Месяц назад
@CoffeeKen as far as NF65 I'm not sure. I think you can find them for many miles out there. That whole mountain line is rich with Quartz. Most important is just to get past where it's over searched.

Are there any good areas up there that aren’t within the designated dig site? Or is the whole area good for hunting?

Thanks for sharing! My wife and I like to go on offroading adventures, and rock hound while we're out. We find great pieces in the desert near our home. We live in Peoria AZ, so we'll definitely check out Diamond Point.

I was up there last weekend. It's now my favorite place in Payson. I've lived here for 23 years and had no idea it existed! Did you find any amethyst crystals? Apparently they're more rare.
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks 10 месяцев назад
I didn't find any purple. My buddy's found many back in the day before you weren't supposed to dig. You really need to break some rocks if you wanna find amethyst included ones. It's possible to find em on the surface but very very rare.
@BiffTannenBTTF
@BiffTannenBTTF 10 месяцев назад
@@ishockrocks Cool. So are the crystals mostly in the light grey rock? I haven't explored enough to find ones that are in matrix.
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks 10 месяцев назад
@BiffTannenBTTF the rocks that have alot of little pockets/holes in them. You can see them at the surface. The good Quartz crystals are often in a ball of calcite. You can take it home and melt it away with watered down muriatic acid (pool acid available at any lows/homedepot/Walmart and such) sometimes they are just exposed in the pockets too. I think the redish rock has better odds for amethyst.
@erinmoen6025
@erinmoen6025 2 месяца назад
Pool acid? I never knew! Thanks! Will that also help clean 'rust/iron marks from quartz?

Anyone that finds value in Payson diamonds...I have some Detroit Shoelaces you'll absolutely love. Absolutely worthless just like Herkimer diamonds
@ishockrocks
@ishockrocks 2 месяца назад
Lmao.. Whats sad is you don't even know what a top tier payson looks like. A flawless purple point on matrix can sell for hundreds if not thousands. Comparing Double terminated perfect clarity and luster Amethyst phantoms to Herkimers is silly. So once you gain more knowledge and experience your opinions won't be as worthless as your old shoelaces 🤣

Who are you to say, noneya? Not all of us need perfect gems to be happy. I love every crystal, mineral or rock I find and bring home, even if flawed. I, I and I found it, my eyes saw it's beauty, my hands held it, the first human being to ever notice it and it's worth. So don't be so sanctimonious. I'd rather see things through my accepting eyes then your narrow-minded ones.
