An interesting fact about the beaver trade is that a lot of people believed it was a fashion to wear fuzzy hats , but the truth is that the fur was scraped off and felted. Beaver is very water proof and holds it’s shape well. Some Steatsons are still made with beaver, that’s why they are so expensive. Also to make the hats, mercury was used, thus the reason for the mad hatters. You bought some new jeans😁

The Fugio cent, also known as the Franklin cent,[1][2] is the first official circulation coin of United States. Consisting of 0.36 oz of copper, it was designed by Benjamin Franklin and minted only in 1787. Some historians believe that the word "business" was intended literally here, as Franklin was an influential and successful businessman. It does not mean "mind your own business" as that phrase is used today, but rather, "pay attention to your affairs".[

Hi Brad,Craig here,your videos are AWESOME!! OWL Pellet you found,my son's teacher took the class to find some.Owls don't digest hair or bone and puke up those two things when done eating. Found them flatter on a rail at job site,soak them in a bowl of warm water, and use tweezers to find bones and skulls of little not so lucky critters! Next video,those were " Newt" eggs? Not sure. Thanks for your efforts, I really enjoy your work ( fun)!!

First I've ever seen the Franklin coin. Lots of good finds. What separates you from the rest of the diggers is your editing of the surroundings of where you are, I always enjoy them. Many of them are picturesque. Good video.

Kinda' late to the party, but at 10:18 that looks like an early monocle and the glass is just missing. Would not be surprised if the handle is somewhere near.

Those pioneers had so few possessions so it's amazing to find anything.

Found an old thimble near an old old two room log cabin here in Arkansas. I often imagine a little pioneer wife mending clothes by lantern light. The cabin was classic two room with dog trot. Mud and stick chimney each end. The logs had wonderful two way beveled notches so logs couldn't move. About 18" Dia pine flattened on two sides. Foot adze and broad ax marks very plain. The walls had remnants of newspaper covering to keep out cold. One piece advertised an iron wheeled horse less carriage from 1893. One old timer told me the Bakers lived there and old man Baker made the best moonshine in Saline county. There's the base remnant of an ancient Indian mound across the Middle Fork of the Saline River where I live. We're 100 ft above the bottom. I suppose I'm the only living person that knows of it. We're only a few miles from the Hughes mound which has never been excavated. The deer showed me where it was or I'd never have noticed. Real history is so neat and completely absorbing.

Wow, whats left too find??? You found a gold coin and a spanish real and now the first American large cent the fugio! My god, congrats!! What an awesome hunt!!! Love the thimble too. That lid could have been from a sewing tin, maybe the lid. Probably made in England . We may never know🤗

Keep your eyes and ears peeled for sasquatch. The entire state of VT is one huge habituation site for them. Calvin Coolidge forest/Clarendon seems especially popular with them.

Best bet for finding a trap would of been along the stream edges. Sometimes they freeze in and can't be retrieved, heavy rains can wash them away and sometimes animals can break them loose. At least that's where I find random traps laying and even hanging from trees.

I've found a few of those brass ring type things with the small tab on them here in Britain. Sometimes oval shaped. Haven't a clue what they are either.

Awesome-love how you usually dig into history... this episode hits home-we are professional trappers next door in New Hampshire. Trapper Camp could also have indicated a fur trading post in which case you might find more in this area if you find the various sites of the stores, bunk houses, etc.

Another great day for you.. The Ben Franklin designed penny is a whole chapter in a history lesson. I was thinking that with the thimble and backstory, if that place was a seasonal spot where trappers could come and sell their pelts. The buyer then sewing packs together for transportation out. Did not seem to have enough iron in the ground for a work station, farm, trapping or even homestead. But maybe reason for another trip one day. Another Thumbs Up Video.

Franklin's Fugio cent was only made in 1787. But they were used for many years. Fantastic finds and very interesting days adventure!

That well seemed like it would be really easy to accidentally fall into but maybe it looked bigger to me in the video than it actually is.

Very nice outing today. The colonial coin was a treat to hear about. Was it a spendable coin or a token that was carried as a symbol of what this country was destined for. Can't imagine that was a trapper camp. You could take the local beaver out and have to move on to another area..very good Brad.

The pressed stamp thing is a flattened lid off a bottle

I know this is late as I am catching up on old ones between the new ones, but have you thought that this might be a trading post that trappers camped at when selling their furs? Sell some furs, buy a bottle and play some cards before going back into the wild. That would explain a deep well, wealthy buttons, and lots of coins floating around. Might that be the lid to a high priced imported tin for tea? Kind of like a metal box with a metal lid. Rather upscale for actual trappers but not for a merchant who traded in furs. Just a thought that needs more exploring. Another trip there?
