Completely agree with the comments that dry shampoo works best when it’s used before your scalp is super oily! But for the sake of showing before and afters I thought this would be most helpful 😊
@@joelynej9 When you want to start training your scalp/hair first wash with a clarifying shampoo. I would suggest the clear Neutrogena one then wash again with your regular shampoo. After that initial wash I would double wash with your regular shampoo if you have very oily hair. Clarify every so often especially if you are using hair products. I would also suggest a shower filter if you have hard water. It's really good for hair and skin. Limiting hair styling products and dry shampoo is best imo as well. You have to be patient and consistent with your hair. Limiting heat styling is better for your hair as well.
@@hellokittydoll2794 I have hair extensions I can’t use stuff with sulphates so I can’t use that also I tried training my hair for 6 months still gets greasy after 1.5 days
I spray my roots with dry shampoo at night and don’t rub it in. I wake up in the morning and it’s all rubbed in! It’s my fav tip because it requires minimal effort and it fully absorbs my oils ☺️
Came here to say that as well. Many people don't know that dry shampoo is WAY more effective if you anticipate oily hair days and use it the night before. It absorbs grease before the hair/scalp is saturated with oil
Abbey, I am so happy that you stuck with RU-vid after the negativity. I caught on to your videos this weekend and have been binging them ever since. You are amazing. I appreciate your content and personality. Additionally, you are thorough, and that makes a huge difference. If there is any encouragement that I can give you, it's this: I learned young just how mean others can be and how everyone has something to say and an opinion (often not too nice ones), but I also learned that I don't need to live life listening to them or paying attention to them. I can kick it to the curb and forget it right quick. I don't like the idea of others having that kind of control over my thoughts or how I feel about myself, so let's say that I lose no sleep at night. Thank you for your videos. I hope going full-time works for you. I am sending prayers and good vibes! 😁
I couldn’t agree more with Laura on this one. Didn’t know you were struggling with this but i totally understand that negative people can really be hard on a person. I’ve experienced a lot of it in my time and bc I wear my heart on my sleeve I can be prone to getting hurt due to this. But I just want you to know how much you’re appreciated….I respect your opinion on products, you’re incredibly thorough, and have a sweet spirit about you! Hope you keep up the good work and forget those that don’t appreciate you, they’re just unhappy souls. Happy Holidays to you both! 😁
Hey girl! I just came back to say: I watched your video, left and searched for other videos comparing dry shampoos and they either talked too long or did not show the results so I legit came back to THANK YOU for the in depth, well put together comparison video. I am a carpenter and am so busy building sometimes that I do not have time to wash my hair and I have been on the hunt for the best DS. I hardly comment (usually just lurk LOL) but girl, you are putting in work as a creator. As a result, I just subscribed and added a bunch of your vids to my "watch later" because you literally use a bunch of products I am interested in/have. Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate you!
You seriously have one of the best, if not the best, review channels for products. The content is consistently interesting and useful and I have purchased so many great products due to your recommendations. Thank you so much.
You have to try Batisee in the scent BARE!! It’s the same dry shampoo but the scent is sooo much more subtle and actually smells pleasant & refreshing! That’s the only scent I get from them now, the ones you reviewed are way to overpowering for me and even give me headaches.
I agree! Batiste clean&light bare is my favorite dry shampoo ever and believe me I tried almost every single dry shampoo on the market both drugstore and high end.
I’m about to restock on dry shampoo and watched your video to see if you had any reds better than my current, Not Your Mother’s, and was both surprised and glad it was a top rec. I have mental health issues that sometimes make it really hard to wash my hair regularly, etc. so a good dry shampoo is a must!
I’ve been using Not Your Mothers for years and people never believe me when I say it’s the best! Original, Fragrance Free, Warm Sugar (people tell me I smell good when I walk by 🤣 so it’s my fav) and one for dark hair all in the clean freak lineup!
The most important aspects of a dry shampoo to me are oil absorption and weightlessness. I tried the Redken deep clean after your hair routine video and was blown away. I love it and have never tried anything as good (I prefer it to the not your mother’s clean freak)
Love that you really show your hair before and after the application - the differences are amazing!! Keep up the great, informative videos - and show some more PUPPY!!!!
I absolutely love the dove dry shampoo, it is my go to. I have dark very fine hair and I don’t get a white cast and it doesn’t weigh down my hair like others have
This is the same type as mine (dark and fine) I would love to know which one you use so I can try it too!! :) im glad you found a dry shampoo for you!!
@@hintoflavender6415 the dove dry shampoo for brunettes was my go to but about a month ago I have found one that works so much better and it’s batiste dry shampoo, it does have white cast but it’s easy to work it into your hair to make it disappear.
You gotta try dry shampoo the night BEFORE you expect to wake up with greasy hair. Dry shampoo is most effective when applied before the scalp is saturated with oil/grease. Using it proactively vs reactively will work much better. Once the hair is already greasy, it's hard for dry shampoo to properly absorb everything without overusing product. Using it at night before you expect to wake up with oily hair will absorb oils throughout the night and you won't wake up with greasy hair. Using it reactively in the morning when hair is greasy is not as effective. Give it a try! It was a game-changer for me.
Abbey, I’ve tried most of these on my search and I am sooo particular. Hated almost all of them. I like 3 in this world currently: Oribe Gold Lust, Kenra Volumizing Dry Shampoo and TiGi Rockaholic Dry Shampoo. Try them and tell what you think. They’re for sure not drugstore, but I’d use any of my 3 over the Batiste, Not your Mothers and Living Proof any day. I’d love to hear your trials.
Thank you. The ingredient that concerns me is aluminum starch. It’s powdered aluminum and breathing it and putting it on your scalp can cause problems over time. It is most dry shampoos unfortunately. Living proof is one of the few that doesn’t use it, and one by bumble and bumble (in the squeeze bottle) and they are both great.
I have never left a comment on a RU-vid video, but I've been obsessed with Batiste for more than 10 years, and YES they do have subtle scents!! Some of my favorites are bare, fresh, blush, original, and wildflower 💕
I know this is an old video but had to say, the morrocanoil dry shampoo is so underrated. I never see anyone talking about it. It does leave a white cast, it’s a bit more of your heavy duty oil absorption type, but it doesn’t take too long to blend it in and once done, it does a great job. Smells great and has a light tones and dark tones version. It’s also more middle of the road in terms of price point, comes in a fair bit cheaper than the likes of living proof but not down in the drugstore prices. (This comment is not sponsored 🤣)
Thanks for the video. I personally have used too many different products throughout the years and I can assure you that Batiste is my favourite. I am currently using the dark tinted one since my hair is medium brown , it gives my fine hair the volume I need although I wash my hair on daily basis cause it gets so flat if I don't. So bottom line Batiste is the best so far.
As someone who does not like smack-in-the-face fragrance in anything, I seriously rate the Batiste original (light blue) - smells subtly like clean laundry. LOVE IT SO MUCH!
I try new dry shampoos a lot. I've not found one yet that's perfect. Although I do like Living Proof, it's more money than I care to regularly spend. If it was perfect then I would. I usually go for Dove Volume (purple on the can) and I actually really like it especially for the price. I might try Pureology next. I get oily af so I need something serious 😂
I’ve been using Not Your Mothers unscented exclusively since the start of the Pandemic and have loved it! Came to this video as I was searching alternative dry shampoos to try out, but looks like I’m already using the best!
My all time fave dry shampoo that I’ve been repurchasing for years is Drybar Detox Dry Shampoo. Works for me like the Redken one does for you - leaves my hair feeling nice and non-oily and lasts for days. It does have a white cast but since I’m blonde I actually like it - gives me some new highlights lol. It’s not cheap though, so I’m excited to try out the Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo and see how that goes! My hair gets super oily since I only wash it once, maybe twice a week, so oil absorption is definitely the most important function of any dry shampoo I use. Thanks for testing all these out for us!
@@user-tm6ij6gx7r Yes!!! I also love that they came out with a variety of scents now since I wasn’t big on the original fragrance. My two favs are Coconut Colada and Vanilla Bourbon.
I love drugstore dry shampoos, hairspray and other styling products. I honestly can’t justify spending an insane amount of money on them. I’m seriously transitioning to almost all drugstore products. I rather invest that extra cash in experiences, travel or the stock market 😉
Love the Batiste bare scent - it's my absolute favorite. I did try the Tresemme but hated the way it made my hair feel. Just felt gritty and my fingers got stuck when I ran them through my hair. Would be intrigued to try the Not Your Mother's but I'm in Canada and can't anywhere that sells it apart from Amazon where it's $35!!
I'm currently enjoying the Moroccanoil dry shampoo for brunettes! Smells good (as Moroccanoil always does lol) and it gives natural volume for my thin hair. The darker color helps with the thin appearance too.
Pureology is the absolute best (or so far) because I have fine baby hair and it’s thick so it gets oily and weighted down so easy from most other dry shampoo. Pureology is light and misty with 0 oily residue. It works even on pretty oily roots and no white bits from the spray. But $30 is just so much 😩 I am relieved there’s better options! I just can’t afford to keep trying new ones till it works. Thank you for this video!
Oh my gosh, the dedication!!! I like powder dry shampoos the best. My absolute favorite is the grapefruit one from My Hair Dance, but I also like the one from Briogeo if my scalp is iffy.
I have tried dozens of dry shampoos and still feel like I haven't found the best. I literally have 4 different brands in my bathroom now that I'm testing. This video couldn't have come at a better time! Thank you Abbey!
I feel the same way. I just bought a Kristen Ess dry shampoo powder at target. Omg. I love it so far. I cant handle the scent, I always feel like I'm choking on aerosol when I use the spray..
Not Your Mother's is sold out everywhere near me now LOL :( I've been looking for something to help my extremely greasy hair (less than 24 hours and it looks like an oil slick) which is also fine/thin so need some volume. This video was perfect for recommendations, exactly the info I needed thank you!
The Hask charcoal one smells amazing but the oil absorption is a bit light for me. Batiste works great but their scents are so strong! I’m excited to try Not Your Mother’s because I’ve never tried that before.
The only dry shampoos that I use and continue to buy are Nexxus the pink bottle and not your mother's beach babe!! Both are drugstore and smell amazing!!! The volume is better than most volume products and they both get rid of all oiliness! I would love to try some powdered ones and see how they compare to the sprays.
I tried the Not Your Mother's unscented dry shampoo and it just didn't absorb oil for me as well as Batiste! I guess everyone's scalps are different. Totally agree that the smells with Batiste are a little overpowering. If they'd tone that down, it would be a holy grail.
Girl! Update: reapplied tonight. Could have privacy stretched it another day but I really want to see what this stuff can do and HOLY COW 🤩 I swear this shit makes it look like I just shampooed! Tf kinda voodoo magic is this?? I’m loving it. I was on day four today and didn’t once feel self conscious about it at all. Tomorrow I will be on day five and I’m not even paranoid. I’ve only ever gone three days max before I start to feel gross but this stuff not only works-it gives my roots body and revives my limp greasy hair…🤯Please for the love of god @notyourmothers please do not ever stop making your dry shampoo because this stuff is where it’s at!
The Batiste classic original one is my favorite because it makes my hair look and feel so clean. If it smelled better that would be a bonus but I don't actually mind it. I need a dry shampoo that will absorb the oil and give a volume boost without feeling heavy or gross in my hair and it just does it all for me. That Clean Freak one was also pretty nice and I liked a couple of the Dove dry shampoos too, but Batiste works so great that it's my holy grail.
To The Person Reading This: You are loved beyond measure & not alone. I hope you have a restful, beautiful day☀️ ~Love From A Small Lifestyle RU-vidr🌿🌸
I think the ones that leave a white cast are always the best for oil absorption! Another good one is TIGI Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo. White cast, but really great for oil and volume.
I have only dabbled with dry shampoo over the years. I don't love aerosols or powders. Most of those I've tried either have an odor or leave a feeling in my hair that I just can't take - I HAVE to wash my hair, which counters the purpose. I found and love R+Co Spiritualized, after I couldn't tolerate the scent of a similar product from Bb any longer. I have super dry skin, and my hair doesn't get super greasy between washes. I love it!
Great comparison video! I really appreciated the inclusion of the white cast aspect - it was forgotten for the last product, but I saw another viewer comment that there is a formulation for dark hair 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 buying it immediately
I will have to try NYM. I have been a long time Batiste fan and I love living proof because it smells just like sweet garden roses. Batiste really irritates my scalp, so I don’t ever sleep in it and only use it for days when I need extra volume and plan to wash my hair that night.
After watching this I definitely think I'll be switching over to Redken! I've been a long-time user of Living Proof to get through my once-a-week washes but am glad I found this video. Since we're on the topic of dry shampoo- can you do a side-by-side of the original Living Proof dry shampoo and their new "waterless" advanced formula? I'm curious if there are true changes, let alone find it ironic that when they launched this new and much more expensive line, they also increased the prices on the original line too.
Love your videos Abbey. I agree with a previous comment... ignore the mean people. Their issues are usually within themselves, not with you. You're doing a great job and I wish you all the best!!
The IGK you used is their middle level. There is a noticeable difference between it and the charcoal one. Love that one for after working out or if I am super oily. You will feel it on the hair but I have found it refreshes how my hair looks in a way most others can't compete with.
I would love to have the ratings added to your product list. It can be hard to remember which one I wanted to try. Very good and thorough comparison. Love seeing one side with dry shampoo and one side without.
You HAVE to try dp hue apple cider vinegar dry shampoo. It's the best I've ever used! It seems expensive when you look at the price but I've had the bottle of the powder for over a year and still have a quarter of it left. It will leave a white cast if you use too much but it's amazing! They have it in a spray formula but that goes by much faster. More bang for your buck if you get the powder! ☺️
Yep, you’re a bad ass!! Thank you so much! I have a stinky scalp and many dry shampoos will just intensify the stink within an hour. I’m liking the dry bar dry shampoo, which does not do that.
I really like the dark brown batiste! Only issue is when I touch my hair or run my hands through it during the day when using it, my nails get kind of dirty looking from the coloring in it!!
Been using Not Your Mother's Unscented for at least four years now. Occasionally I'll try something else, but I always come back to it. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't mind the original scent, but don't prefer a lot of scent in my hair. I agree, you do have to reapply the next day or at least in two days. You can't beat the price.
Hi, I'm from Brazil and I'm loving your channel... Before, I used Batiste, which was the best dry shampoo, but it is no longer being manufactured here, it was the only good one... Unfortunately, there are few dry shampoo options here... I have very oily hair, and I loved the batiste it's a shame I left Brazil.. I don't speak English and I translated it on google translator I love your videos.
The best one I have ever used is the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Joia Refreshing Dry Shampoo! The smell is so creamy and delicious and it keeps your hair pretty fluffy and fresh even 4th-day hair. I love it.
This was so thorough and amazing! Batiste has also surprised me. Oil absorption is probably the main reason I go to a dry shampoo. I can totally relate with using something for a while thinking it can’t be as good as one of the other brands and gone back to the cheaper one lol.
Top Priorities Not cakey-if I can feel it on my scalp I may as well just wash my hair. I have blonde hair thinner than yours so I am excited to try your top picks. Would be nice if you read the list off at the end in order or preference. I only remember living proof and Aniqua (or what ever it is called) and I despise how strong the scent is. Maybe you listed them in your post. I’ll have to check. Idk how you remember each product and it’s pros and cons. I style my daughters hair and it comes out nice and I can’t remember the mixture of protective products that I used when it’s time to wash again. So you’re pretty good! Thanks for the review.
Thank you so much for your thorough testing on these dry shampoos! As a person with dark roots and thin, oily hair, I appreciate the research! I really like one at Walmart that surprised me: Colab Dry Shampoo, the Unicorn 🦄 one. 😆 It doesn’t leave a white cast on my dark roots, absorbs oil well, and doesn’t smell too strong. I use it for the volume, too. It’s a bit smaller bottle than maybe the NYM’s or Batiste, but I just buy a bunch because that one sells out fast where I am, LOL! I just discovered your channel, subscribed, and am binge watching all your vids, LOL! Love your content! And love someone that also uses some Paula’s Choice products! 😉 God bless!
Sol Janeiro Brazilian Joia Dry Shampoo is the BEST HANDS DOWN!! It smells just like their Bum Bum cream and leaves your hair so incredibly silky smooth and looking and smelling just washed hair! A must try...
DARK HAIRED GIRLS!!! Don’t be afraid of the white cast from that Redkin dry shampoo. It’s my number one, holy grail dry shampoo. I’m sure you can see how jet black my hair is in my pf pic and when I tell you Abbey ISNT LYING!!! Run don’t walk to pic that up. It’s AMAZING! 🙌🏽
My favorite is the Living proof one. It’s a light fresh scent. I need to try Not your mothers though. I can’t use many because I can’t stand how heavily scented they are. Batiste, Dove, etc…. Make me nauseous. I don’t want to walk past someone smelling like deodorized armpit.
New to your RU-vid! Here's my problem...I have always washed my hair almost every day for years. For the past 5 years I've used a cleansing conditioner which has given my pixie much needed volume. Last year I tried to tell myself to not wash it every day, try to go at least three days without and try a dry shampoo (this would help my hair color and cleansing conditioner last longer!). My research lead me to Not Your Mother's Unscented Dry Shampoo (migraines prevent me from using scented anything, so I was excited!)! I have used this a handful of times, but I guess the trick is to go several days without washing and then try the dry shampoo. I will be trying the idea a few ladies mentioned in the comments - use the dry shampoo before bed! :) Wish me luck!
Have you ever tried any powder dry shampoos? I’ve used the bumble pret a powder and it seems to work well for me. Obviously it can leave a cast, but seems to work I well for me. I like it for traveling because I always do carry on only and it’s one less “liquid “ for me to squeeze in. Would love to see a comparison of different brands. I’ve also used Fekkai powder years ago.
My favorite is L’ange Style Revival super dry shampoo. Also love their Star Dust Dry Shampoo powder that is non aerosol. Neither leaves a white cast and both smell nice and fresh. Won’t be without them!!
Batiste is my favorite! I spray it on at night and in the morning, it's absorbed. I also like a brand the does leave a residue so I can manage my super fine hair!
I love the Pureology for the volume it adds and I have dark hair. The white cast brushes out completely for me so that’s not a problem. But I’m excited to try some of these other options to see if I can find another I like at a better price point. Thanks for the thorough review!
Thanks for this. Sadly, my hairdresser suggested using dry shampoo without alcohol...the only ones that don't have any alcohol are organic which I'm willing to try (healthier) but I think I need to lower my expectations- it's not the same as these products. Her reasoning was that the alcohol can muck with the highlight color. Thoughts?
Very impressed with the thorough reviews. Thank you! I was in need of a change in dry shampoo after Drybar changed their formula this year. Thank you for both this and part 2!
I cant believe Bumble and bumble dry shampoo (the one in a small bottle), klorane dry shampoo with nettle and l’oreal elvive dream lengths dry shampoo didnt make it. Theyre amazing
The “fresh” scent is my favorite of batiste because it’s the least floral. I generally do not love a lot of scent in anything and I can tolerate the fresh. It used to be called powder fresh but they recently changed it. I prefer the smell of clean over floral or anything else in all products.
Current favorite dry shampoo was actually one I discovered by you!!! Its the Hask Charcoal Dry Shampoo from Target for like $4.99!!!! It is seriously so amazing and works great to help me last longer between washes!
Dry shampoo addict with a super greasy scalp here: by FAR my favorite ds is the Batiste one in the Bare scent. HATED the Living Proof one, got my hands stuck in my hair all the time and the scent was so powerful my coworkers could smell it 💀. I tried the Dove one in the coconut water scent...hated it. Too gritty and made my hair look dusty. Bumble and Bumble pret a powder is similar but more powdery and better oil absorbing but also gritty. Verb used to have a powder ds in a small pink bottle that was AMAZING but they discontinued it 😭. Drybar's Triple Sec is great for texture but my oily scalp beat it in a day. The Tressame one was okay, it left my hair soft and workable but had very weak absorption (for me). Still on the hunt for something that can rival Batiste and I haven't tried the Redken one so that's next on the list!
I've always tried using all the sulfate free expensive shampoos that everyone recommends and my hair was so frizzy and oily ...now I switched to tresseme and my hair looms beautiful and a lot less oily
I’ve tried using sulfate-free shampoos as well a number of times but my hair really prefers the cheap drugstore shampoo with sulfates. I do prefer a higher end conditioner though.
Sulfate cleansing ingredients can run the full range from incredibly strong (sodium lauryl sulfate) to baby-gentle. Any of them that are used in hair and skin products have a place - even SLS, which is good on the occasions when your hair needs a very good cleaning. [Just don't use it on long hair every shampoo.] If you have very oily hair, or use a lot of products, you need stronger cleansers than if you have baby fine virgin hair and use nothing except shampoo and conditioner.
