In this video, I visit Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang Thành Đạt, a popular restaurant that serves arguably the best hủ tiếu nam vang in District 1. It is located in Cầu Ông Lãnh ward, an authentic local area right in the heart of District 1, and it is also within walking distance to the bustling backpacker street of Bùi Viện, making it a convenient option for tourists.
The exact address of this Vietnamese restaurant is: 34 Đ. Cô Bắc, Phường Cầu Ông Lãnh, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh.
Hủ tiếu nam vang is a Vietnamese noodle soup that originated in Cambodia. It is made with a clear broth, thin noodles, pork, shrimp, quail eggs, bean sprouts, and herbs. The broth is typically made from pork bones and dried shrimp, and it is flavored with fish sauce, sugar, and spices. Hu tieu nam vang is a popular dish in Ho Chi Minh City, and there are many restaurants in District 1 that serve it.
I was recommended by the nice lady at the restaurant to try out hủ tiếu thập cẩm đặc biệt (special mixed topping noodles). This bowl of noodles is overflowing with delicious toppings, including shrimp, pork, minced pork, pork liver and heart, a side of pork rib soup, and fresh herbs and vegetables. The pork is cooked to perfection, the shrimp is plump and juicy, and the ribs are tender and flavorful. The broth is clear and flavorful, with a hint of sweetness and spice.
This was not my first time trying this noodle dish, but this time I am truly impressed with the quality of the food at Hủ Tiếu Nam Vang Thành Đạt. I happily indulge in this Vietnamese noodle dish and give you my signature Dank Rank Food Review. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the toppings are fresh and delicious, and the broth is flavorful and satisfying. This busy restaurant was packed with customers on a Saturday night, all the servers were helpful and accommodating, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Vietnamese noodle soup in District 1, HCMC.

you could have tried those green stalks with hủ tiếu (they're quite fragrant). I think they're in the same family with celery.

That's definitely the best dank rank I've seen so far from you. Wow. Just curious, seems like everything I see lately is called hu tieu...what is it exactly? Is it just a different type of noodle like bun or pho then?
@BigTimeBentley
@BigTimeBentley 11 месяцев назад
Hu tieu is a bowl of meats and noodles served either wet or dry, with a wide range of noodle types but all of them are generally thinner than pho or bun noodles.
@doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 11 месяцев назад
@@BigTimeBentley But here's the thing, I've seen them way thicker than pho noodles as well as thin. So I'm confused. Are they just (typically) thinner, but chewier versions of pho noodles?
@BigTimeBentley
@BigTimeBentley 11 месяцев назад
@@doodahgurlie yea I’ve noticed that they’re thinner and more chewy than pho noodles. Pho noodles tend to be slightly thicker, flat, and soft

If you get a chance, try Pho Le 415 Nguyen Trai P7 Q5. I really like their meats (especially the fatty brisket) and broth 😊😋❤ Their prices are on the expensive side though. The restaurant was awarded a Bib Gourmand in 2023. 😋😋😋

@@BigTimeBentley👍 Anan Saigon recieved one Michelin Star in 2023 (Chef Peter Vuong Franklin). Maybe you can go there for special occasion/celebration 😊🎂 😊I think advanced booking is required 2 to 4 weeks ahead of time, especially for their off-menu special iconic US $100 Pho tasting menu, including a "Pho" flavored cocktail!😋😋 😊It's very expensive there though. Only if you really want it. 😊

3:55 i don't think it's undercooked, they slow cooked that meat for hours, no way it can be undercooked. I once pressure cooked some ribs for an hour and it's still pink in the middle, i don't know the exact science but they are 100% cooked

@@BigTimeBentley Garlic chives are flat whereas green onions and (regular chives) are cylindrical in shape with a hollow center. Garlic chives are tougher to me than regular chives (most tender) and green onions.

Do Americans, in general, tend to gain or lose weight eating there? The ones who move there? Thanks
@BigTimeBentley
@BigTimeBentley 8 месяцев назад
good question...if you eat mostly Vietnamese food and are moderately active walking around in the heat and sweating, you're definitely going to lose some weight. But you can also be pretty sedentary and eat American style food here all the time and either stay the same weight or gain weight...at least that's been my experience.

I was watching the CDC and they said there’s a heavy dose of arsenic in food and water in Vietnam. You must check it out.
@DINKStyles
@DINKStyles 11 месяцев назад
Arsenic is a naturally occurring element found in plant and water, certain area in the USA like the middle and south part of the country have heavy dose of arsenic in the food and water due to lack of regulations which equal to almost like Vietnam. In Vietnam, most people don’t drink tap water and water is boiled before consumption. You can say that the foods in Vietnam is safer than the food in the Deep South and middle of the country. You will also need to consume large amount of arsenic in food before it killed you, probably dies from a heart attack or stroke before arsenic poisoning.
@doodahgurlie
@doodahgurlie 11 месяцев назад
Wow, you found a different negative thing to say about Vietnam besides the trash. Changing things up I see. Cannot wait to see what OTHER negative things you will find to point out about in Vietnam in the next 100 videos you hunt down. And for your info, arsenic was also mentioned in rice in the US for years, but yet you choose to only point this out in Vietnam.

Hmm normally from what I know, lime is not used with hu tieu 🤷‍♂️ since hu tieu is originated from China and Chinese cuisine doesn’t use lime as a condiment like Viet cuisine. Maybe this hu tieu has been “Vietnamized”?
@potatoradio34
@potatoradio34 11 месяцев назад
As a Vietnamese, I've been putting lime into hu tieu my entire life. It's pretty normal. However, I've never had Hu Tieu in a Chinese restaurant.
@snguyen1230
@snguyen1230 11 месяцев назад
Vietnamese like lime on most noodle dishes. I used lime with Hu tieu, thats normal. Vietnamese Hu Tieu is a bit different than the chinese version. Vietnamese Hu tieu originated from chinese vietnamese in Cho Lon.
@andyh1308
@andyh1308 11 месяцев назад
Let me clarify for y’all. Hu Tieu is originated from China but through out the years it’s been made differently from different countries. Sourness is added to cut down the saltines or to give it a little savory. Chinese use red/white vinegar for the sourness and Vietnamese use Lime. Whatever you do, eat it your way.
