More evidence that Apple is awful. I should never have bought one, these things are just problems wrapped in problems. Can't handle scaling? Isn't that just a software thing they could fix? Nah, they want you to buy their RIDICULOUSLY overpriced Studio screen. Congrats, you bought Apple.
I love the LG Ultrawide monitor. One thing though, "THE PRICE" is scary to me. I'd rather go for the Eve Spectrum monitor (Spectrum 4K 144Hz or Spectrum QHD 280Hz). Both Eve Spectrum monitor options cost less than US $1000.
I’d rather pay more money to a company I trust and have good replacement and refund system than give it company that’s have quality control issues. By no means I hate the monitor, I’m big fan of design and features. But I wish it didn’t have much issues as it does at the moment
Imagine paying Dough (formerly Eve) for anything lol, why would you go for the Spectrum when LG-27GP950 exists, with a 4K 144Hz display? Unless you're desperate for a glossy option or USB-C, I really wouldn't pay them any money lmao, especially when you're not even guaranteed to get anything from them.
Went from the LG 34WK95-U. Immediately noticed the lower brightness in comparison but have since gotten used to it. I love this monitor. Expensive? Yes. But I don't regret buying it. I do programming and the screen real-estate is perfect! It's also great for watching movies and for flying on MSFS 2020. Only wish the monitor control joystick were on the side instead of the center. I use a Tobii Eye Tracker and it's meant to be placed centered under the monitor. It makes accessing the joystick kind of tricky. I also don't like that HDMI only maxes out at 50hz response but easily goes down to 30hz. I have an M1 14" MBP connected via TB4 and it's great at native res of 5k2k. I also have my Gaming PC connected via DP to an RTX 3090 and it also looks great at 5k2k 72hz. My work laptop is a Lenovo X280 connected via HDMI and that runs at 30hz when I run it at the highest resolution the laptop can support on this monitor which is 3840 x 1620. If I run it at it's HDMI suggested resolution for the Lenovo of 3440 x 1440 then it will run at 50hz which is still kind of slow. The 34wk95-U was 60hz all around. Either way, let's hope LG will somehow fix this via bios update, if it can even be done.
I bought this monitor, but when I connect my webcam to any of the side USB-A ports, my computer doesn't recognize it. It seems the USB-A hub doesn't supply the energy for the logitec C920 webcam. Is my monitor broken or do I need turn on the USB-A functionality somewhere?
Scaling issue is really bad. Went back to windows pc after m1 mac mini. Still using the m1 macbook air but I can't stand theese blurry texts of macos because of subpixel antialiasing problem. 1440p and 144 - 165hz are the best value monitors out but it looks like a garbage with Macos. Really bad experience.
I've just picked up the Dell version of this (same panel) and the scaling is fine on my mac to be honest. I increased the scaling by one option and it's big enough and still seriously sharp with no perceivable difference.
I bought LG UltraWide too, but 34". For the monitor, you present I can buy four monitors like mine. But maybe someday I can afford this one. Thx for this video is helpful anyhow. And, yes it is perfect for MacBook Pro - mine won't allow me to connect two monitors.
I thought Apple would have introduced fractional screen scaling with the initial advent of Mac Minis given that they are a 'bring your own monitor' device and Apple can never be certain what monitor resolution you are running. (the display screen like alternative resolutions, is just as you say, fuzzy). This is another area where Windows wipes the floor with Mac unfortunately.
I use a 29" FHD ultrawide monitor that cost $159. This is probably the cheapest and best solution to overcome the one external monitor limitation on the M1/M2 Macs. I will eventually upgrade to a bigger one with QHD but my workflow doesn't require all of the bells and whistles of the one shown here. Good thing too since I don't want to break the bank.
Que opinas de Asus Vivobook 16 x Pro ? . Tengo que estudiar toneladas de pdf y este parece ser el mejor Monitor para leer y leer y leer ? Lo he valorado pero tengo que estar tomando notas y mirando hacia abajo puede que esté mejor ( laptop ). Gracias !
Monitors are all so WAY Over priced.... this should be $999 max. for $1799 I can buy a 65" OLED or a 75" LED... I know TV's aren't monitors. I am just saying there is NO reason for a 40" screen to cost $1800
why buy 2k laptop when monitor not eve big as full size keyboard laptop could have. what is 14 and 16 inch laptop still in 2022?they are too small on 4k and default 8pixel font that dev say quality more txt on screen uf uf. i say 40pixel font is more quality more pixel on actually font to get smooth LOL
how is the monitor holding up and how long have you been using it? I wanna get one really badly but reading some horror stories on amazon reviews is a little discouraging
hi guys I went to test this out in store yesterday, for some reason the sound didnt work - it was glitchy. The guys in store used a usb c cable 40gb transfer speed, we couldn't figure it out ? any feedback. Im using a MacBook Pro m1 processor 16GB. Iam looking for a monitor as this tiny screen is doing my head in. Is it time to upgrade the Mac ? I was hoping to get a few more years out of it. Any other suggestions before I buy this monitor ?
You dont have to use scaling with this. I have 4k 32" and always use it at native res, and since this one has the same ppi you totally can use it at native res =)))
Ultrawides typically aren't very bright. You also don't need a really bright screen unless the ambient light inside a room is extremely bright already. Like a window shining directly on the screen for example. I use this ultrawide right next to a full-length window and can still see clearly even during bright afternoon sun.
@@CreatedTech I have a 300 nit screen and it looks much darker than my MacBook. I’m looking to upgrade to a 4K with 500 nit but the only ones I’ve found are the LG Ultrafine or Dell UltraSharp which is 400
Well those are completely different monitors, this is an ultrawide which typically runs on the dimmer end. The EVE Spectrum 4K has good brightness and is also 4K and 16:9.
Nice video! I was looking for a ultrawide monitor, probably gonna buy that one. How do you use that function that separate the window at the same screen? Is there a third-party software that enable that? Also looking for a way to use more than one screen in macOS without the need to click at the screen before using, so far don't find anything about that topic on the internet.
Just buy a Sony 43" TV ( Sony X80J, X80K) It has built-in apps and speakers, a remote control, better color accuracy, better peak brightness, and HDR support in macOS. The pixel density is old school (about 104 PPI), but good enough for just about any task with a large 42.5" display for multiple windows. You need to push back the display from your seated position - yes you will need a deep desk for this, but it works and you get not only a wide monitor but a tall monitor too. Finally, it costs about 1/3 of the ridiculously expensive LG monitor in this video.
I recently bought the Lenovo p40w-20 which is using the same panel. I have to say that, unfortunately, for me the MacOS scaling leading to blurry fonts is a real issue. However, maybe I just need to get used to it.
Does anybody know why none of the big manufacturers make 5K displays or anything else that would help mac users with the scaling issue? I mean, this isn't exactly a new problem, right?
@@jonicolton I ended up getting a 5K2K 😅.. But it seems that any screen with a PbP capability will do. It's actually not a bad workaround if your device is a bit older and can see two displays of 2560 but can't push a single 5120 signal (HDMI/DP version?) You do have to change the config on macOS on the displays (desktop options) that "displays have separate spaces" -- that way the whole display acts as a single panel and you don't get an invisible seam in the middle that would make your windows jump around.
Great review, I own the 40 inch dell and agree with your comments, the scaling is annoying but not really an issue. I absolutely love this monitor and love the size and image quality. Everyone who buys will enjoy, and never go back to a small screen set up.
@@thaune91 I have this one, just installed on a Max Studio. Text looks pretty good except on Zoom. The buttons in the zoom app look so blurry. Kills me 😂
This Monitor it's expensive and also it's on the bad zone for cristal clear fonts on the display for MacBooks it should be or 110 PPI or 220 PPI for retina and this Monitor is on 138.92 so this is a no go
im looking for brand new LG Ultragear 32GQ950 4K Gaming Monitor with 32 inch IPS Display. what do u think? it does not have thunderbolt or usb c.. but the monitor quality is insane!.. i can u give me advice? plz
When are monitor designers gonna take a look at user feedback and design actually perfect monitors? For me, I'd love a monitor that works and scales perfectly with Macbook Pro, 5K2K+ resolution, 40+ inches wide, at least 13 inches in screen height, excellent brightness, easy to control, volume and brightness sliders on the monitor, button and programmability for night shift, excellent curvature, ports that are easy to access like in LG monitors, VESA mount, quick response time, high refresh rate, and thin bezels
My 43" 4k monitor cost me $350. It's a Mi TV I bought here in Thailand. Any 43" 4k TV would have worked. Save $1300? Yup. Highly recommended. The picture is perfect with my Mac Mini M1
Thank you for the great reviews. Can you please review the Samsung Ark and let us know how it stacks up against the competition? I am a scientist and looking into a dual curved monitor setup or a single big screen like the Ark.
Looks good, but price.. I am using Xiaomi Gaming Monitor 34". I really want 4k, but I am not sure I will spend so much money, because xiaomi is much more cheaper. It gives me 100 Hz via HDMI with macbook.
The Dell U4021QW UltraSharp 40 Curved WUHD Monitor trumps this one imho. It is also 5k2k and has a built in KVM, which is a killer feature at this level.
<a href="#" class="seekto" data-time="390">6:30</a> every single youtube review talks about PBP features on separate devices like macOS and Windows. Can I use just one PC for the PEP feature? Can't find a single video covering this.
Question. Do you have any info about MacBook air thunderbolt output resolutions to external monitor or TV which are supporting 120hz refresh rate? Everyone says that only MacBook pro supports high refresh rate via thunderbolt and on MacBook air models this function is purposely limited to 4k 60hz. Is that true?
This seems like it would be the perfect monitor as long as you install BetterMonitor to fix the sharp text scaling thing. 300 nits is too low though ugh. I might just get a Studio Display still researching
I have been disappointed so often already with apple's "scaling" feature. For instance I have here a 4K screen that works differently on my mac pro or a mac mini that I have. On the Mac pro it allows scaling, but on the mini not..l Pretty ff'ed up by apple if you ask me... Steve Jobs would have never screwed his customers this way.
The perfect mac monitor is defently not an ultrawide😂 have you ever seen an ultrawide display from apple? You want a good monitor for mac user i would go for dell ultrasharp 27 U2723QE, a perfect work/edit monitor for a proper mac user
i PREFER THE m8 sMART mONITORS... Shame on Samsung when they raised the Price ot the monitors for 600+ USD to Samsung Student Advantage to. almost 700 USD in India.... Your vids is good, but large ultrawide for the Macs, I'd say 99% of M1 Pro & Max User didn't needs it. SO, be a good chap! RU-vid make me broke.... So... I want you to say what you think. Not the company.... EEEEhhhhhhhh!
In your opinion, why is a curved ultra-wide the best monitor to use with a MacBook Pro? Also (and only because you mentioned this), in your opinion, can users generally expect 4K monitors to have brightness and color contrast that is noticeably below that of Retina? Or 5k? Thanks
Resolution is always too low for a ultrawide because rh manufactory has to control the number of pixels on a single monitor. It is by far not perfect. For me, two 144hz 27 inch plus MacBook pro 14 is the killer combo.
you do realise that even 32" 4k is way more area than your 2*1440ps. And better ppi at the same time. And 1440ps ppi is terrible for any text work. I have 4k 32" (same ppi as this one in review), and it's still low resolution in my opinion, but way better than 1440p 27". ANd btw, I've had 2*1440ps myself before going for 32 4k, and for productivity 32 4k, and more so this one is way-way-WAY better.
I don't get the scaling debacle. I use a 32" 4k display and use the native resolution. Not too small for me. This 40" should be similar, just wider, no?
how about the scaling? is it usable at native res ? I fear it will make user interfaces way too small.. and I think macos idoes not do a good job scaling 4k... as it is optimised on 5k like the Studio...
So its perfect for the macbook except for that it does not support the native resolution, so it has scaling issues and looks blurry. And has no proper speakers. And the price is too much you say. Conclusion: Solid buy. What??
Goddamn, thanks for BetterDisplay app. This is what I searched for whole my life. Changing brightness via monitor settings is a kind of pain, but now it is so easy
Cool monitor! I have the Dell S3222DGM at home and the LG UltraGear 34GP950G-B at home. Both curved, and they look and performe great. But having a 40" curved monitor, would be great. And yes, having ultra wide monitors, beat using dual monitors.
Someone needs a higher framerate version of these ultrawides. Don't want the 49" Neo G9, just a logoless 40" ultrawide picture with 144hz. Framerate makes a big difference in UX
Does this monitor still cut power to the external drive when it enters sleep mode? I have a similar non-wide LG monitor and it basically made the ports unusable for storage.
Love the LG Ergo and a lot of LG products in theory, but with two computers hooked up to one monitor, the Dell U2723QE 4k Hub Monitor paired with Dell's Display Manager is just too good.
imo a monitor being this expensive and not having a dedicated kvm switch and not even having 144hz refresh rate is not worth it. The QD OLED ultra wide monitor is far better.
What are the material would you expect a computer monitor to be made of, yes it’s made of plastic. Of course it’s made of plastic anything else and it would be about 100 times heavier
Great review, very concise whilst covering all the important stuff you really need to know. I tried one of these with a Mac Studio but ended up returning it because of the poor scaling and max brightness. As you mentioned in your review, the 5K resolution is very nice, but if you’re using this with a Mac and are expecting “retina-link” experience at all of the supported resolutions, you’re going to be disappointed. That said, it may or may not be an issue for you depending on what you’re used to and what you’re going to use it for. The only other thing I’ve found with this monitor and other LGs is that occasionally they won’t come on when you wake your Mac from sleep. It’s been an issue for as long as I can remember and still hasn’t been fixed with this one when connecting over TB4. If macOS is going to suck at scaling, why won’t Apple produce monitors in a wider range of sizes?
Question: I am interested in high resolution primarily for sharpness of text since I am coder... from what you said though I am afraid that the 4k resolution with scaling would not be any better than a lower resolution (like the other LG ultrawide you mentioned) with no scaling?
@@dreistheman7797 I still did not buy it.. I am terrified that as soon as I buy it something better will come out haha :) I am particularly worried as this monitor is not exactly a new model... so I think a similar, higher refresh (120Hz) might come out soon... I have heard that many interesting OLED ultrawide are coming out this year.. :(
Thunderbolt monitors are still too damn expensive. There isn’t any obvious reason that they should cost anymore than USB-C monitor that includes PD power through the USB-C connector.
This monitor has a lot of negative reviews on LG’s own site, relating to reliability. It seems for many people it starts having serious issues within the first year or two.
