I found a Blue Point 24oz BP24 Ball Peen Hammer in the street a few weeks ago. The head was beat up, the handle was cracked and pitted.. do you think we can do a full restoration on it?

When I saw the yellow I was like WTF. The red looks Much better. I scored a 18" Snap on 3/8" extension at the end of a yard sale a couple weeks ago for free. Good times.

Yea, that was a swing and a miss. I tried it because it was very high quality paint. If it had worked it would have lasted forever, but it didnt work on this project

I liked the video. I do the same stuff. I always think quick project will get you back on track. Most recently found a coping saw when I got it cleaned up restored found out it was a really old stanly so it had some value. Not that it really mattered. Oh blue or red

The beard of knowledge may be gone, but the knowledge somehow remains. Perhaps the powers are unrelated is that even possible?!?!? Bonus of this resto, you were able to use a bunch of the tools the wife has no idea why you “needed”… obviously to restore a street hammer is the correct answer…
@DEInTheGarage
@DEInTheGarage 2 года назад
Yes, the beard had to go, but it is on its way back! And yes, bud. The wife thoroughly did not understand when I told her I was "going to the garage to restore a hammer". oh well. hahah

Nicely done. I like that you kept the original handle. I have found quite a few 'road combed' tools over the years - the few snap-on spanners and sockets I have all came from roadsides. I recently did a vid on a sad and rusty rounding hammer I found on a road verge in Somerset (UK). Made a new haft from green ash (from the coppice) and fitted it 'cos the old one was rotten.

Now just get some of that leather lace, soak it, then tight wrap the top couple of inches of the handle under the hammerhead :)

That thing looks amazing another heirloom tool you have now. Something you can pass down to your kids someday. I would have personally replaced the handled but I really love how you made yours look!

Great restoration, the final color orange was much better! Just wonder, why burn the handle? There must be a benefit that I haven't seen before. Thanks!

I've found a lot of tools laying in the road but never found a need to restore any of them. I think I would have painted the head of that handle a nice shade of Chevy Orange 😁👍

You're still alive after the Paqui chip challenge. I couldn't respond to your reaction during it bc I was laughing too hard at your reaction as well as the cussing lmao. Looked like you were getting genuinely angry

I honestly cannot tell you why I felt during that. There is no reason anything needs to taste that awful. Haha.

@@DEInTheGarage judging by how each time you nearly puked and then threw whatever was within reach, I'd be willing to bet a hat full of assholes tasted better than the chip lol

I like the restoration but hammer handles are wear items, that's why you can find them in stores. I would have just restored the head and re-handled so I'm not worried about a repair failing. The handle has a history but it's not your history. It might be a bit of an antique but it looks like a user more than a wall hanger to me. I would try to repair a handle on one of my grandfather's tools that I inherited but a road tool is just a tool.

Was the lettering too far faded to have some some infill of just the letters? Or maybe do them in black or white in addition?

I think it came out really nice! I wasn't liking the yellow either, red is much better. I found a real set of vice grips in a wrecking yard a few years ago and cleaned them up and have used them a lot over the years . I like scoring free tools like that .

Fuckin' awesome video! I remember when you posted that as a short and hoping there would be some sort of restoration. Only thing I'd do differently is paint it Bears Navy Blue! 🐻 ⬇️. And especially being a Blue Point hammer. Then again, that red is very sharp lookin'

Hey bud! Thanks for your $0.02! Here the why...... the old one was completely salvageable. Some folks take pride in not sending everything to the land fill 🤷‍♂️ it appears you wouldn't understand that though 🤔
