Dean , a man who never makes mistakes doesn’t learn anything . You have learnt so much mate and admire your determination to continue , plus I enjoy watching 👍
I have been following this project from the start, and can I just say, what joy it brings me to see such an accomplished and Patient mechanic at work, many many thanks for taking the time and effort to share your trials and tribulations with us......top man👍
I bought a 2015 Audi s4 from coparts over a year ago smashed good at the front got it all rebuild then the engine slipped the timing so it sat ther for most of the year and watching ur videos made me get off me ass and start to fix after I have give up with it for almost 7 months big thanks and keep up the good work love ur vids
I had a B7 S4 V8 for 4 years ... I still have nightmares, but my fingernails have now grown back ... You're nothing if not persistent. I gave up and now run a 2003 Mazda 6 shed ... I don't care when I hear little ticks & knocks. Good on you for keeping the V8's alive - the RS / S's are great pieces of machinery ... when they drive out of the showroom.
Saving salvage keep up the good work my friend I have the Audi A5 3.2 V6 CAL. I have been taking out the engine more than 5 times only your channel helped me out by sharing that information about those 4 cam adjusters at the chain drive, tried every thing cardiagn.com ELSA nothing about them. until the video you share about a random guy who sent you the email on how they should go. Although this one aint V8 but procedure is kinda same. All thanks to you my friend without you even today my V6 would be stuck. I had the same timing problem but only one came bank 1 adjuster B changed it and renewed 14 multi spine bolt now it is running like a clock. Hope this elevate your spirit to do more you look humble man you my role model. Do not loose hope you got this.
Think if I was that far in mate and had suspicions about 1 of the chain tensioners then I’d have 110% replaced it while it was all apart, hard lesson learned here.
I know you don't really have a choice taking out again, but the amount of work you've put in is a real credit to you! Once it will be running as it should it will be amazing! And the content on it has been great to watch, so worth it from a viewer perspective 👍
Dean, great news it started and ran, shame you gotta drop the engine again, but hopefully this will be the last time and then it will run perfectly. Great content, really enjoying this series. Can’t believe you’re already looking at more cars, and you haven’t tackled the Porsche yet 🤭 Keep the vids coming please, and hope the heart rate has calmed now!
Please don’t let it deflate your mood, it’s a project and nothing is easy otherwise everyone would be doing it and you wouldn’t be doing so well and have such a positive following. Proud of you Dean, great job, plus, we get to see another video on the RS4, and when you get to rip it a new one up the road it will be worth all the set backs. Great job mate 🤩
Amazing videos Dean! I now know exaclt how to build my engine but after watching your videos I'm hoping I never have to! A complex job which takes many hours. Beutiful seeing alll the components though and how the car is put together :-) Thanks mate!!
Wow again Dean, all by yourself as well. You will now be known from now as the rs4 master!!! Great watching, feeling your pain, keep the faith with your skills and patience you will get there.
Did this rebuild on my A6, such a pain in the ass with the timing chain. Kudos to you mate! Its alot of content to edit for sure, I have 10 hours of content on the build trying to edit down now
Congrats Chum you have done some work on that car not many people would tackle that kinda work themselves.. chin up onces shes built and running the fun of the drive will make up 4 it... 🙂👍
Bad luck mate but you will get there. That engine is a nightmare to work on - engine out just to get the camshaft cover off!! I can relate to you not wanting to start it for the first time and the sky high heart rate. I have fitted 4 modified engines to my cars in the past and was exactly the same each time. It is great when they finally start and run well however.
Hats off to you dean. Amazing work on this engine and definitely sounded sweet. Definitely all that hard work has paid off. We all know you got this sorted. You rebuild an engine, timing issues will be child play now.
As gutting as it is considering how the engine was last time its a winner in my book, you should be well happy, yeah the tensioner is a pain but fit a new one and that should be that done & dusted. You've saved that engine & your pocket 👍👌
Damn! I feel your pain....Consider what caused the tapping noise. Are the valves and pistons slightly touching? Maybe you should take a leak down test or (relative) compression test, when you can/before the engine gets dismantled.
Keep ya head up pal you are smashing it. Shame the engines got to come back out but at least you know how to do that now. Great effort and content. Can’t wait to hear her running 👍👍👍
You have got to keep this car mate, all this time you have spent together, you being so nurturing and the car playing hard to get in return, you know it makes sence!
OMG, so close too. Can't believe you've got to take the engine back out again. Sure you'll sort it though, and be driving the RS into the sunset in the near future.
Great content! Keep going man, so close now. Thanks for posting your successes and struggles. I thought the tfsi engine was hard to work on, but this is a whole different league. Look forward to seeing her running.
Brilliant effort mate, try not be too disheartened it will all be worth it in the end, you will have a phenomenal machine and a huge sense of achievement.
I had a lead on one of these...when I brought it up with my mechanic he told me it would not be welcome in his shop. I can only imagine he’s had similar experiences with this setup. Any regular jobs on this are “engine out”....I can’t imagine how you are feeling about this car at the moment, but I’ll hazard a guess it’s not love....Best of luck getting that timing right...we are all convinced that you can pull this off!!
Shame about the timing but as you said it’s much better than having a broken engine again. Brilliant video though! It’s been great seeing the cars journey
On the s4 which has the same timing setup, you just unbolt the cat and move it slightly away from the timing cover. It is also not possible to remove the cat there, too. So maybe try unbolting the cat without completely removing it like on the s4?
Your heart rate was up, I think most who have followed this felt it for you, main thing Dean it didn't sieze up again, pain in the arse it's coming out again, once in and running sweet and your doing your road test I'm sure you will forgive it, well just a little. 👍
Great work Dean you will be an expert at taking the engine in and out . But she sounds alright aside from the drivers side bank tapping. Thanks for the awesome content stay safe and take care
There must be a remote wire loom extension pre engine install checker system audi ,well done so far on ur project so a service like that is 5k-7k I will disarm the car alarm
I used to love the Star Trek episodes with the Borg and your engine bay reminds me of a Borg ship ! Full credit to you though and I think you’re on the home straight now, I can’t wait to hear her fire up
Great it's running, sad it's gotta come out again, but you said it right, better to have a good engine after a timing adjustment than an engine thats knackered, almost there, great content 👌
Your heart rate !!! Mine was racing along side yours 😂, feel for ya Dean, so much hard work 😓 but at least she started and ran and sounded good. Finish line is hopefully insight and you deserve a pat on the back Dean, loved watching this in-depth series of videos. 👍🏻
I couldn't wait for the 1st crank of the engine and it to fire up mate. Being a fitter my self and when doing a engine rebuild my fingers crossed and hope that it's all good but things like that does happen, but it's all good and I know that u will do it head up and keep going mate. Keep up the good work bro Rob the Welsh boy 👍👍🏴🏴
Please dont dispair. What you have done already on this engine is unbelievable. Surely brain surgery is easier than this! Yes it is taking a lot of time but its facinating watching you rebuild this engine. I wish I had your car mechanic skills. I dont, so that's why I will continue to watch and enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
