HEY GIRL HEY!
This video was filmed early December and I sat on this for a while. I questioned if I wanted to upload it but, I am not because when have we not been able to speak our minds freely on our hair issues?
It was fine when this method worked and people were raving about it but now that it's questionable, it's hush hush 🥱
But I'm only saying out loud what we are all thinking...
One thing we've learned is that your hair can and will get damaged no matter what method you follow if you don't have good hair practices. Consistency has always been key, trial and error is still a thing and it is very much possible that a product may not work for you. Listen to your hair and adjust accordingly.
But I am just gossiping though - don't listen to me 😅

I think the issue is that no one’s being clear about drawbacks of these methods they promote. Ppl will just say xyz is the best method and if a client isn’t getting the results and health they need, they will act like the client is wrong in their execution instead of trying to help a client troubleshoot. Everyone just wants healthy hair for their lifestyle, so it can be frustrating when it still doesn’t act “right” after paying a good amount of money for guidance

Followed the BGC/ no oils -no butter method with a few tweaks (used a leave in & continued to DC regularly) for the past 2 years, and my hair is in shambles. I was washing/conditioning once a week, detangling with the F.L. Brush (I now know that was a mistake) and reading ingredients like a scientists to avoid raw oils and butters. More recently, I began to exclusively wear wash and go’s for the past 6 months. I now have excessive drying, shedding, webbing and splits. Maybe it’s due to user error…who knows🤷🏽‍♀️. I’ve just never seen my hair in this state before. I can’t express how disheartening it is to spend the time and energy “taking care” of your hair…only to see it be destroyed. 😢 I’ve since adopted some of my old methods to see if I can get the condition of my hair back on track. I’ve also chopped off several inches. Praying for things to turn around.❤
@AF-cm1kg

My splits are awful too, similar to shelly + rosie and ive also been no oil/butter for 2 years. why do you dislike the felicia leatherwood brush?
@canada7082
@canada7082 8 месяцев назад
@@AF-cm1kg At some point I realized it was doing more harm than good. It was slowly ripping out my hair overtime (probably due to the plastic,non flexible, bristles). I’ve since switched to the smaller version of the Denman D38. Again, I’m not exclusively blaming any 1 thing. I’m sure my hair is in the state it is due to a culmination of things. If anything I blame myself for following a trend.

Wow I hope your hair is flourishing now. I experienced the same thing when I went no oils. that was my exact hair routine and brush. After maybe two years my hair was falling out in the back every time I touched it. I realized I over used the F.L brush, it’s good for occasional use not weekly. I went back to using a little oil or a natural conditioner to preshampoo and detangle first. And I went back to deep conditioning each wash day. Oils can be used if you shampoo them off or you wear twists/braids.

@RoyaltyAC
@RoyaltyAC 7 месяцев назад
I’ve enjoyed your conversations about this. The issue I’ve noticed is when some people introduce these new natural hair care methods they come in with arrogance, trashing other methods of hair care. When things go wrong, it’s really difficult for folks to be humble and walk back. That’s something that made me step back from more popular naturalistas- they are usually trying to sell a “right way” to care for natural hair when there really isn’t. At least not yet.
@CurlyCrowie
@CurlyCrowie 7 месяцев назад
I have stopped following some for the very reasons you state. Some are so busy dissing methods and other natural influencers, yet they say nothing else of any value to me. Some are so busy trashing other channels because they wanna sell their own processes and their own products or those of their sponsors. So my choice has been to follow the less loud-mouthed channels. I am DIYer and I lean towards influencers who from time to time include DIY and not only commercial products. Someone told me recently they dunno why I even follow channels when I know my own hair best..... I do it cos it's from watching vids that I learn and try new things which sometime work and sometimes don't.

I followed this bgc debacle from the beginning. Craziest thing I’ve seen in decades! I also watched some old bgc lives and people were not exaggerating about how they and their followers were extremely mean. Now fast forward, bgc and those bully subscribers are mostly silent. The integrity is nonexistent. Narada mentioned that out of 30 clients he serviced, only 2 had healthy hair following bgc methods. Praying for discernment for everyone in 2024😂❤

Jennifer Rose’s recommendations were…. Adjacent (I feel uncomfortable even typing that) But the cleansers and conditioners she recommended has emollients high in the ingredients and she didn’t advise against “plastic-ey” gels. MoKnows Hair again has adjacent methods but she uses leave ins under her stylers in her tutorials and recommend using deep conditioners, and silk serums after styling. There are various ways to go about wash and go styling. It doesn’t have to be rigid and there are other options recommended by professionals.

I wholeheartedly agree that the focus is on the wrong thing. The fact is people are experiencing damage. How do we address the damage? How do we support those who are struggling regardless of how they care for their hair? There is alot of blaming and not enough trying to solve it. (Save for AHG who is basically the sole one thinking about folks outside of himself!)

First, Jenn J I see those edges re-entering the chat 🎉🙏🏾. I recently started having issues with itchy scalp & realizing that it's due to medications I have to take regularly (which also give me a dry mouth). For context, I'm in menopause with lots of grey hair. It finally occurred to me that stage of life affects hair health (I have dense hair). So I've changed my routine a lot, and it's helping. Mostly resting my hair in twists & flat twists. Biggest change is incorporating spray products that have glycerin to remoisturize during the week. And of course drinking way more water to rehydrate.

Today is the first day since 2021 that i put raw oils in my hair. I was still leaving heavy leave-ins and styling creams & butters formulated with oils and butters, but ie noticed thay my hair is getting dry very quickly. I'm not someone who really cared about porosity but I've come to realise my hair his very high porosity, i need an oil. I don't think I'll go back to making a whipped butter, raw shea butter is too waxy for me, but my hair feels lovely with a light oil.

I disliked oil in my hair even before the bgc method. I washed with black soap and made my own organic conditioner. Basically followed what we learned in 2011/2012 - the ones with Shea butter and oils etc and my hair was nice and long but so hard! I’m pretty sure I ditched oils before bgc because I just hated the oil on my pillows. I watched Dickey’s videos on wash and go’s and just adopted his method and was pleasantly surprised to see my curls pop and hair became so soft. But the downside is my hair is not growing, it’s sort of stuck. I think it tangles too easily but idk a hack around that 😅
@Silkyslim48

Do what works for your hair. Pay attention if you're having scalp issues...is it to much oil on your scalp or the oil itself? Stop using it and see what happens. If your hair isn't doing good see what and how much products you are applying to your during a week's time. We have a tendency to follow other's hair regime and your hair isn't liking it and yet we are forcing our hair to like certain products because someone else like the products.😶 Enjoyed the gossip.😉💚💁🏾‍♀️

Influencers are attacked because there are a lot of professionals people who are stylist stylist, stylist, hair, doctors, and many others, who very educated with hair, and the influencers are not as educated, but they know their own hair, like you Jenn!! This is what the beef is all about!! Cosmetologist are mainly upset because many of their clients are leaving them and they’re working on their own heads of hair and watching influencers on RU-vid.

To be fair, BGC (specifically Aeleise) did not invent the no oils method. They were just the first to streamline it for black women/afro hair. Curly hairstylists have been preaching no oils for years now. It went alongside the curly girl method. (BGC differs because they don't highlight conditioners as much.) They also do curly cuts because they usually do not recommend stretching curls at all. One veteran stylist I can think of is Shia Amiel (The Curl Doctor).
@LethalLemonLime
@LethalLemonLime 8 месяцев назад
From what I know, the curly girl method was a silicone-free method not a oil and butter-free method. I know this for a fact actually. It's also a sulfate-free method.
@thingsilove18
@thingsilove18 7 месяцев назад
@@LethalLemonLime I said it went alongside the curly girl method. Never said they were the same. But it was not uncommon for curly hairstylists to recommend not using excess oils and heavy butters long before BGC. That information is still available online. Plus the curly girl method removed any products that could not be removed with a sulfate free shampoo so some oils were included.

We don't harass medical schools after a doctor's malpractice. And they can unalive you! 😂😂 I don't know. I haven't had any problems out of the ordinary. I've only had 2 curly cuts due to none being in my city. With Afrikan Hair God, I feel like his lane is fine. It almost felt like he came for their necks and it didnt require all of that. His way of doing hair is good too! It made me look at him side eye a little. I've taken ideas from a lot of influencers that are licensed hairstylists. I'll never go back to raw oils and butters. I do still use them in well formulated products.

It doesn't really mean much especially not in the eyes of the law or anything. not like how being a cosmetologist is actually important and you need an actual license to practice. technically no one needs a specific license to do a curly cut. you're not going to get a fine from doing a curly cut without a tight curly license lol. All it really means is that these people took a course from two other stylists that claim to be tight curly specialists.

I tell people all the time... the issue is that consumers always feel that everything is supposed to be one way all the time! I've been in the hair world (influencer, viewer, stylist) since 2016, and us Stylists have been telling consumers, to stop using raw oils & butters for the longest. I stopped myself since 2021, and never had any issues! Your hair is going to go through whatever is going on inside, and out! Hair is always going through multiple phases all the time. I myself have multiple health conditions, color treated hair, and know that my hair won't be perfect all the time! So I never understood, why others think that theirs should lol. People don't even DC correctly lol. Even afrikan hair god didn't have hair in a great state all the time, before he shaved his head. So it kills me that he bashes someone else, when he shouldn't. It shouldn't be about "doing what works for you" it should be about education, evaluation, and application at all times! Then I feel that things will be easier
@MM-we4no
@MM-we4no 7 месяцев назад
“Doing what works for you” IS about education, evaluation and application. Including using it not using oils and butters. There is literally NO scientific reason why we should not use raw oils/ butters but y’all will die on that hill WITHOUT an actual scientific explanation. But if it works for you, that’s great. However, it won’t work for everyone because they evaluate their hair and apply a different way accordingly
@Neosoul_prima
@Neosoul_prima 7 месяцев назад
@@MM-we4no there's plenty of scientific evidence lol. Y'all just choose not to read! The statement is totally flawed, and doesn't always allow true investigation. However, yes I will die on a hill with my scientific, and physical evidence/experience anytime! Peace and love

Well since you brought me and my hair up, I suppose i should speak on it. I have had hair issues in the past and no one expects anyone's hair to be perfect thru and thru. The difference with me vs Aishia is that: 1. I was experimenting with my hair trying different things that i didn't normally do including but not limited to, hair steaming, heat styling, letting other stylists play in my head, doing styles that i wouldn't normally do, etc. 2. Unlike Aishia and others, I was never in denial about my damage nor did i ever try to be dishonest and conceal it from my followers. But she has many times over and had even admitted this on live herself. 3. I am able to speak on various forms of hair damage because I've experienced it and I investigated & researched how my hair became damage. You can't know what the limits of healthy hair is if you never surpass the limitations of healthy hair. I've taken the bad experiences with my hair and made it a learning experience so others would not fall victim to the same damage and problems as I did. This opportunity presented itself to BGC and other CIK stylists but they have chosen to not take part in tweaking and adjusting their methods to ensure that EVERYONE can have a positive outcome with their approach. 4. Lastly, I'm not bashing anyone. I've said this from the very beginning and I'll tell it to you once again since you seem stuck on your own narrative... Others and I only wanted these stylists to take accountability for their part in their followers hair issues. You not having any issues (guess we have to take your word for it) is completely irrelevant to the hundreds of women that are experiencing the same exact issues and the same exact damage. We have watched them all summer try to gaslight (which I've seen you do a number of occasions as well but that's no surprise to me, it seems many of you tend to follow the culture and behavior of the stylists whose asses you kiss), dismiss, ignore, deny, and retaliate against women who have come to them seeking help and guidance with their hair issues.

I appreciate your perspective...if we are going to talk about integrity. Please stop saying those ladies followed "the regimen" to the T. It takes 5 minutes on their social to see that they switched things up...and that is OK. Those switch ups didnt work out for them...and that is also...OK.

From my experience and the women I have spoken to, it's mainly the ones that did not switch things up that are having issues. Tweaking things seems to be beneficial and even stylists are doing that as well now.

@@JennJackson I guess the question is what does switching things up mean? Does that mean switching up styles? Does that mean switching up products? If you are referring to products then I stick to my original statement that alot of the people who are saying the stuck only to the bgc product list or only to their stylist recommendations ...in fact did switch it up but it didn't work for them and that's ok.

Honestly why would BGC go back and forth? They have put a lot of time and energy into their resources I wouldn’t waste the energy w/people who just want to argue. Same people also likely didn’t use the resources properly. Look at the comments here. How many are saying “I followed BGC w/tweaks” or “I didn’t use the recommended products”? You have no idea how they take care of their hair outside of the stylist chair. And as far as other stylist calling them out, it’s giving weirdo vibes to be so obsessed w/how another stylist runs their business. Customers will give money to the stylist their Haircare needs align to. ATP people just want to tear two black women down for gaining a high level of influence in the natural hair market.

Tearing down Black women for gaining a high level of influence in the natural hair market? Oh... you mean like how they did to influencers, bloggers, and RU-vid University every chance they got to? How quickly some of yall tend to forget. The Irony of it all! It's not weirdo vibes when I have their prior followers literally sitting in my chair seeking help, understanding, and repair. Maybe you just aren't used to that level of compassion, care, and dedication from the stylists you go to. I can't simply ignore women breaking down in my salon crying, upset, and dejected from the stylists and the mentors that they supported and patronized. Maybe they should be "obsessed" with client and customer retention, service, and communication so that other stylists like myself don't have to clean up their mess that they didn't even want to address. I tried to pass them the ball to handle it on their own and they pretended like it was just noise to ignore, so no one should be bothered or upset that other stylists are now partaking in the discussion around how they are damaging hair. They didn't want to, dissolved a whole partnership to absolve any accountability, and now are struggling with business because they couldn't swallow their ego.

@pamelawebster7168 please don't use that on your hair!! That food for your body. Keep it simple( buy a clarifying shampoo; it is used when your is very dirty and has buildup. Also use it only when you feel like your has heavy butters ans creams, follow up with a moisturizing shampoo after using the clarifying shampoo. It keeps your hair moisturized. You can use a moisturizering shampoo weekly or bi-weekly depending on your hair wash routine. Then follow up with a conditioner. You can deep condition your hair every two weeks depends how your hair feels. If you have to go braid or silk press, blow dry on yout wash day, then use a deep conditioner. Make sure you have a leave in conditioner, foam for styling, or styling cream. Use those when you want to style your hair. You mentioned you have think edges, if you do braid your hair frequently, take a break from it, also weaves and wigs. Remember what you eat is also important. No oil grows hair. NONE!! Most girls genetically have thicker hair strands, and their hair grows fast. Just be consistent and patient. Lastly love the hair you have!!
