Second big-time trainer in weeks who told you to TRUST YOURSELF. Sensing a theme? 🙂 A great lesson and I think all this will work well with Jammy. I've often thought that your problem was trying to half-halt too close to the fences, rather than getting her back into a good rhythm AFTER the fences/around the turns. Try riding Jam like Brownie and see what happens!
Can I just say what a transformation from Lucinda’s earlier this year to this video! You really should take stock of how far you have come!!! You are very lucky to have the professional help BUT you have also put in a lot of hours Meg! Here’s to 2024 the best year yet!
Meg I’m in shock that you criticise your riding so much. You are a fan rider. You need to really take Piggy’s advice because while you always ride well you rode that horse absolutely beautifully & it liked calm, contained, focussed & professional. I wish I’d had a really knowledgeable & kind riding instructor as a child. Coming from a horse free family my mum was pretty oblivious to the old fashioned attitudes that sometimes prevailed about getting on with things & getting tough. It took me until I fell off aged 27 & broke my ankle & insisted on getting back on my horse while trembling in fear & pain to realise, I think at the time I could not get my foot in my r stirrup that I was injured & the last place I should be is on the back of a horse. Those attitudes led to me being scared & loosing confidence never regained. Oh & not forgetting having nasty falls where my horse ended up falling & I hurt myself. I’m slightly jealous that you got to ride on Brownie. I’m getting back into riding soon after the last of my horses passed away close to 2 years since. First time since 12 that I’d never had a horse. I’ve never jumped for 20 plus years & I dreamed over the last tenish years of finding a horse that knows it’s role, gets over whatever is in front of it given I’ll defo mess up, doesn’t stop & is forward going. He looked like a dream to ride. I was showing my mum horsey partner who presumed I’d want the opposite of forward going when getting back to jumping & was using your riding as an example of how it’s more comfortable, enjoyable, interesting & safe to be on something moving with confidence it’ll look after you. He can’t understand why forward going isn’t a worry to me in this context. We have been together close to 20 years & he’s never even sat on a horse. I think any chances of him moving towards a stage where he appreciate by personal experience why forward going is safer is gone. I love your vids. Interesting & informative, a great mix of different detail & content in the vids. Looking forward to watching you & jam get to Badminton. You got this Meg ❤🎉😊😅xx
@@elphick.event.poniesYou are a particularly capable & kind rider. I’ve been around horses for close to 40 years, until 2 years ago, regularly. You are up there with some of the best riders I’ve seen minus the quality at Olympic level. I’d absolutely trust you with any horse of mine, which isn’t likely testament to the ability or price tag of those horses, but absolutely a very high seal if approval from someone who only completely trusts 2 people. Stop giving yourself such a hard time. No one is perfect & I really believe that the only thing holding you back at times is your head.
I sound like a deluded weird fan ha ha. I promise I’m not it’s just I don’t think I ever commented on your vids & I’m terrible at typing succinct messages. Xx
You are really learning the details that make a rider a pro. The subtle but important little things about your position and body carriage, the way to use a half halt effectively and when to use it, when to trust the horse, the small ways to relax and be confident. I am thrilled you are able to use the knowledge of so many great equestrians. Making these changes enough times so they become body memory is going to work wonders on your results. Great lessons. Keep making mistakes, just learn from every one of them. You are amazing. Thanks for sharing so others can learn too.
I usually don't comment but I just wanted to thank you for doing vlogmas -- but not only that, also for sharing these valuable videos. Allowing us to implement some words of wisdom into our own riding. Thank you Meg. :)
I love that you have been able to spend time with all these lovely top-tier riders. Your videos are always such a joy. Thank you for sharing this wonderful world of horsey life. It makes my heart so happy to see every time.
Another fab video! Love Piggy. Remember her coaching Jennifer Saunders to ride a show-jumping course. She’s so positive and tells the rider exactly what they need to know. And Brownie..what a gorgeous horse.
YES and YES. Piggy Marsh and Brownie are both LEGENDS! What a gorgeous boy, Brownie is; that looked like so much fun. Brownie just has perfect form/outline in every gate. Amazing to watch his enthusiasm too. Thank you for taking us along for the ride ;)
What a great vlogmas this has been. Thank you Meg.. and thank you Piggy as this one was the best yet, in my opinion. You looked lovely on Brownie. What a lovely, genuine chap.
Fantastic vlog, Meg - no better way for you to end the year than with the awesome Piggy March & the talented Brownie. Thank you so much for Vlogmas and all the 2023 Vlogs. Wishing you, Pete, Hobbit & all the Elphick Family & extended Equestrian Family/Supporters, a Happy & Healthy 2024🥳. Looking forward to following your journey - onwards & upwards - you'll be great🤗
So impressed with the improvement in your riding. Seriously think that you'll get to the FEI levels. Vlogmas has been great. Thanks for all the work that you put into it. I've been learning vlogging tips from your channel.
Awesome collaboration! After the busy season is over, I'm going to rewatch all the Vlogmas videos on the TV instead of grabbing bits on my phone between events.
So funny that now that we have Wilma on the channel, when I see a brown horse I just asume it's her 😂 and was like "what? She looks different" maybe it's because that's not her, genius 😂😂
This must have been so good for your confidence. Its lovely to see you acknowledge that you have places in your riding you need to work on and are trying hard to rectify that. I too came up on insane pingy ponies and have a tendency to take a pull so i get it. 😂 I think Jam is enough of an established horse at the levels shes at that you can apply alot of this to her
Another fantastic lesson. You and Piggy have a really close working relationship. Trust...yourself and your horse, don't keep saying sorry, rhythm...... so many great tips. 2024 is going to be awesome ❤
@@elphick.event.ponies Omg can't believe you replied!!!! I'm 13 and you are literally my equestrian idol. I've wanted a horse for so long but haven't been able to get one. I ride western when I get to ride (barrel racing specifically) and your my idol when it comes to english because I want to do barrel racing and eventing when I'm older. I started watching you 3 years ago and you're the reason I want to do eventing ♥
Gosh I love Piggy - she’s such a great teacher. I could see the difference in your riding at London (watched on H&CTV!) - Jam looked a lot less strong as you weren’t giving her anyone to fight with. Can’t wait to see you putting it into practice this coming year!
I was doing my loan pony’s stable and complete the stable beautifully and suddenly my mum ran into the stable and jumped onto the straw ruining all my hard work and she started making making straw angels 🤣
Hi Meg, you rode him beautifully well done a great confidence booster that was for you. Piggy is amazing sharing her experience with you lucky 🍀 girl.tfs🏇
@@elphick.event.ponies i rode as a child; 9-14 & every vacation i take lol. confidence is easy when you’re young but i see it in you!!! don’t doubt yourself! remember what mr Iceland said …”our horses read off our energy..”. if you have doubts your horse is wanting to know what they need to doubt. see what i mean? you have great confident horses that have you & you’re a great rider!! feed each other confidence & a “we got this!” energy … cuz you do! 😁 🥇!
Oh what a lovely horse he is! He reminds me a lot of an Oldenburg I used to ride. His physique looks very similar to the one I used to ride. Very cute!🥰
Just found this quote from Buck Brannaman, a Legendary western horseman "Until you can walk, trot, canter AND gallop on a loose rein with direction and purpose collection is a JOKE. It's not collection, it's containment for an insecure rider. Containment and paranoia. It's pulling and holding and you're just calling it collection to sound noble." -Buck. Still really good riding with a ton learned. Looking forward to those lunge lessons where you ride and jump without reins. ❤❤❤
At my riding school, where I've been learning to ride for five years now, we have an ex showjumper. Really nice horse but I rarely ride him because usually I come on his day off and when I have had the pleasure, I never managed to canter him. He has a reputation for being strong and forward so as an anxious rider, even on the lunge I never made it beyond trotting as he senses me tensing up and we spiral haha. I've always wanted to give it another go and maybe just do the first transition from walk so I won't have time to get in my head because both my instructor and I are quite sure that actually cantering him is not the problem. Seeing this video and how you managed to calm Brownie down really makes me want to give it another go on him because he's a lovely horse and I have to get over it at some point :D
Happy New Year, Meg, and Piggy!! I wish you both great luck for 2024!!! Your tired friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer, still on baby watch for 2 more foals, from Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
I love u Meg! You have inspired me so much and I have loved riding more because of you and I love how you share your good times and your bad! I love your sense of humour and your ponies and I have been watching you since early 2020 and have been constantly since!Xx❤
Seriously Meg you are riding so so well right now. Watched you ride Joy again yesterday, what a difference these 12 months have made. Give yourself a huge pat on the back 😊 x
Happy new year-loved this video! Can you do a video on teaching your horses how to do auto-lead changes like Brownie? Thanks for all you do and best of luck in 2024! ❤
Hi Megan. Woww i don't do jumping but i would ❤ to try it when i see you riding there !! The trust yourself from piggy, loved it. I follow you since last year when you where with mr iceland. Really is a Great man, and i would love to meet him myself one day. He already knows that. And your new horse is so beautiful 🥰🥰🥰 Wilma ❤
Great video. Can you please give us a bit of a background when you ride other horses eg height breed and age? I am always keen to hear their story too.
Meg is incredible for her age, And I addmer piggy before beeing such a good sport. And I addmer them both ,AS l worked in an eventing yeard in Kenilworth,nr coventry .😄😄👍👍TAKE CARE AND all the best till next time.
He’s a great size for you. You’re now a recovering panic addict. Let the horse jump the fence. Guide and sit. Guide and sit. 2024 is the year to accept the stride.
Meg please help me!!! I keep arching my back over a jump and it really annoys me. You have such a good position over a jump so please give me any tips or advice on how I can improve it. If you need an example of what I am talking about I have video of me jumping on my channel. Please help🙏🙏🙏❤
Meg and piggy would never ever ride a lame horse I think based of the lame horses I've seen he's just a quick mover ❤ if you want to see a lame horse watch day by day 😂
