Yeah I got lucky, heaps of digitiser faults and barely any water damaged ones for once!

This video was very satisfying. Good job fixing them all! At least none of the boards were damaged. I was surprised you managed to save that final standard DS. It had a pink shell and black buttons, instead of the white buttons, indicating it had already been tampered with at some stage. I wonder why the bottom screen was fried, if the rest of the board was fine.

Couple of the boards were damaged they were later in the video. I think there were 2 types of pink ones, the light pink one has the white buttons and the dark pink one is black buttons so I don't think it was tampered with.

I think I have about half as many DS Lites as this in a storage bin from when I got too ambitious fixing eBay junk once. Long story short, Game Boys are significantly easier to work on than the DS line, except for maybe the Game Boy Micro which is also pretty horrible. May revisit them someday when I'm more experienced. Very impressive and some disturbing (3DS cartridge slot in DSi) repairs here. Nicely done.

The gameboys also cost much more then what the DS line does. For me I started working on DS lites so I dont have issues with the ribbon cables and stuff anymore, but I defiantly want to get more gameboys. Hahahah yeah but there was no I was paying $40+ for a new DSi slot, couldnt find any cheaper then that

One dude on eBay had them all listed individually so I sent an offer for them all, I assume they work at an e-waste centre or something cause they have lots of other broken gear

One of the aftermarket shells I got for my DS lite broke my EM 10 filter. Debating if I want to spend 10 bucks to solder on a new one or just bridge it.

These units were in rather good condition! It's unfortunate that a couple of faults made them unsellable. I wonder if you got them from CEX?

Hey Chicken Master, i've got an odd question for you. I got a GBA SP a little while ago and was STOKED to add a new shell to it and get it set up cool and clean for myself. I went to do it today and I noticed the old volume slider cover was stuck on. I tried to be as careful as I could be, but the stick part of the mechanism has actually snapped off still inside the old slider cover... Any ideas on what I could do? I don't have a solder that small that I could just replace the part, at this point i've just put it together without volume. Edit: some looking around suggests that this model apparently had the volume slider AND cover as one piece, and some SP's just come like this 😔I had no idea and this is the third one i've reshelled lol.

Ahoy seacaptain, to be honest I haven't opened a GBA SP (they're dam expensive even when broken) if you can get the old broken piece out of the shell, then you can try carefully glue it back to the slider. Do you have a hot air station or just an iron?

They are expensive, I got lucky with my one tbh… I have access to a heat gun at most sadly, part of me did wonder if I could just glue the part back on with the old cover. At this point I don’t care that it’s not the new coloured slider I bought haha I just want it usable.

yeah heat guns are to full on could damage it. head phones are probably the only way to hear it for now. Does the slider still work if you use something small to push it side to side? could put the volume on half for now until its fixed.

@@chickenmaster121 It does yeah, I've been using a toothpick to adjust the volume at this stage lol. Thanks so much for the suggestions, I appreciate it. I might give the glue a shot, the original slider actually has the bit sticking out, so It might be enough to hold onto the original piece. I just don't want to get glue into the actual slider and gunk it up. I'll weigh if its worth trying or leaving

yeah gotta be careful with glue in that area, only use a tiny bit. good luck hope it work in the end!

A weird question. I have a dsi, but after a while the game freezes. The port feels sticky when taking out the cartridge. Just a dirty port? It does in fact still read the games

How many different games have you tried in it? Do they all do it or just 1? Wouldn't hurt to clean the port aswell

I would go with a clean first if you have some IPA or contact cleaner, if that doesn't work I would replace the port and hope for the best

Can you please make a tutorial on how to replace the touchscreen of a fat DS? I am not sure how to do it and every other tutorial is either not good or for the normal, not fat DS. Could you please make a video with an explanation on how to do it?

I've had good luck with toys-jpn on ebay, doing the math, you can often get ds lites for 11 a pop. I don't know if this has gone through, as my youtube is freaking out, so apologies if it's been repeated
