What's the craziest thing you have used Bondo for? What would you have done differently in this project? Let me know in the comments below!
We got a steal of a deal on an Eastpoint Hover Hockey Glaze Tek Air Hockey Table on clearance at Walmart a few years ago... The problem was that when we came home and opened the box, there was a huge gash in the play surface. We played with the table having a big hole, but of course the puck kept getting stuck in the hole! After a few months, I tried to fill the hole with a totally not-good filler that probably made things worse.
After working on a few home projects using Bondo Putty, I realized it would create a great surface for the air hockey table. After laying and sanding many many layers of putty, then redrilling the holes and painting and buffing the finish, the air hockey table has never worked better!

This is super impressive! I bought a previously owned air hockey table with wear near the goals and the former owner painted over the wear and blocked the holes. I purchased a 1/32 drill bit to clear them. After watching your video, I'll make sure not to go too far down and perforate the second layer. Thank you!

This is literally the only helpful video on the topic of resurfacing air hockey tables that I could find on RU-vid. I was this close to just buying vinyl to put over ours but was afraid of it rubbing through and dealing with adhesive

What type of gloss do you put on the table to make it super slick?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 3 года назад
After the spray paint dried there was still a ton of friction and the puck slowed down significantly. I let it FULLY dry/cure over a few days and then sanded it with really fine sandpaper. One was 600 grit and the final passes were with 1500. It helped to reduce the drag, and now you can't even tell that part of the surface had work done!

What grit sandpaper did you use to prep surface pre-bondo? During patching?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 4 месяца назад
I used something rougher like 100 to flatten it, but the final polish was aa 1200 and then a final was 1600 to make it super smooth.

I have the same table! It used to work and now there’s no power. Any ideas how to fix?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 7 месяцев назад
Like the motor doesn't work? The way it works is pretty simple.. It's just a fan motor! So if it's not working, I wonder if either your power got disconnected, or the motor blew. You can check both with a multimeter.

Is this the same process to fix a hole or missing piece to a air hockey table?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 2 года назад
If it’s a small hole. If the gap is too big the putty can fill in the air channels and air can’t flow.

Mr. Kirk, my family recently purchased the same table at a discount. The outside gloss black around table, one area needs touch up paint. Your expertise, what type of gloss black paint would you use? I would like to fix up the table before kids see it. Thank you for any suggestions.
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 2 года назад
I know just what you're talking about! That black moulding around the edge is really shiny. My kids have scuffed ours in a few spots. If it's gouged deep enough you might need to use putty like on the play surface and sand it. If it just needs a coat of paint in a spot, I'm thinking Home Depot has a nice High-gloss Rust-o-leum that you could apply in light layers at a time. Be sure to mask off the play surface and any other parts you don't want sprayed!

Ok I’m pretty sure I used my 1/16” drill bit. I also taped off the depth so I didn’t go too deep.

I recently bought one myself, but it has a couple warps that run the length of the board. You think sanding it down to a fine grit would do the same as you have done?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller 2 года назад
My method worked great for the single hole I had... otherwise the play surface is perfectly flat. Where your play surface is not even it might be tricky.

Could be worth a shot though!

Great video! What type of spray paint finish did you use/recommend?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller Год назад
What I used and what I recommended might be 2 different things! haha I used what I had in the garage. I had an OLD “ColorPlace” white (Walmart brand) and I tested a few reds. The one I used was “Pep Boys” Hunter Red (discontinued). Krylon and Rust-o-leum are great too. Just make sure you apply in light light layers. I polished it with the lightest sandpaper I could find too.

Thanks for the reply. Do you think a gloss or high gloss would be best?
@KirkHMiller
@KirkHMiller Год назад
The surface of an air hockey table is very shiny, so I would go high gloss.
@ΓιαννησΜαγγινας-γ2δ
Hey man what did you use to close the whole in the air hockey?

I used this great stuff called Bondo Putty. It comes with a hardener cream that you mix into it to make it super hard. I have an affiliate link for it here: amzn.to/3syDrVw I have used it for many projects and it works great!

It's Bondo Putty amzn.to/3syDrVw It comes with a hardener that you mix in. Once it hardens, it requires A LOT of sanding to make it smooth.

It’s the gray all-purpose stuff. (See link)

I agree. I tried this technique but it did not want to lift!
