When I worked on commercial boats in the gulf we would occasionally get nasty cuts or get poked by a fin which would get infected. We always had five gallon buckets of soapy bleach water on hand. Wash your hands in it then at night use neosporin on your cuts. And if needed go to the dr. When you came in and he would probably prescribe keflix for the infection.

Many moons ago I was "tagged" by some lil critter while night fishing. My guess was a small mantis shrimp. It was my right thumb. It throbbed for the rest of the trip. I went to bed the next morning after cleaning the fish. Upon waking up that evening, my thumb was hot , bluish purple and three times its normal size. I went to my local ER. The doc mentioned a compartmentalized infection possibly some form of staphylococcus. I received two whopping injections. One was an overdue tetanus booster and the other was a fairly strong antibiotic. The Doc told me that 36 to 48 more hours most likely would've meant gangrene. So getting prompt help is very important. I'm so glad you heeded your aunt's advice. Sorry for the "novel" folks. Lol 😊

Here in Michigan I got bit by a recluse spider on the way back to super secret slab bluegill gravel pit. At first I didn’t think anything of it. But the following afternoon as I was about to hit the shower that bite on my ankle had become a shirt button size black necrosis. Right away I knew that one was beyond me. At the clinic they prescribed Keflexin. That’s a pretty heavy duty antibiotic, that one is no joke! Glad you took care of it immediately.

I was fishing by myself. I had 2 lines running deep on 300 feet of wire and 2 flat lines with diver lures on. I had both wire lines go down with 40+ lbs. striped bass on. As I was bringing in the first wire line. Both my flat lines went down with blue fish on them. In the middle one of the blues nipped my finger. The first thing I did was wash my hand with bleach and put Neosporin on it. I did get all 4 fish in. What a work out. But I never got an infection from the bite.

A couple of years back, all everyone was talking about was the "Flesh eating bacteria" in salt water and they were telling you to carry antibacterial hand sanitizer with you when you went fishing. I used to carry bottles of the stuff in my Tackle Bag but have gotten away from carrying it because it seems to be something no one talks about now. This video is gonna have me putting my sanitizer back in my bag.

Usually when they say keep out of the sun with antibiotics, they mean the entire person not just the injury.

Darci, thank God you are getting better. I’m a 74 year old kayak fisherman and Vietnam Vet who lives in San Antonio but does most of his fishing in Rockport or Corpus Christi TX. About 9 years ago a Rockport teacher was wade fishing and cut his knee on oysters. He didn’t think it was anything until two days later when the infection worsened. His leg had to be amputated to save his life. Reading about my fellow fisherman made me invest in a antimicrobial skin and wound cleaner called Anasep. I keep this in my kayak and use it whenever I get a wound from a fish fin, line cut, or embedded hook. When I get a wound I immediately rinse it with the Anasep. It works so good that once I embedded a hook in my thumb, removed the hook by myself, rinsed the injury and applied a band aid. To my surprise the next day I couldn’t even see where the injury occurred and I had zero pain. The lesson here is to have immediate first aid care available. The flesh-eating bacteria is real and according to the CDC it’s getting more common. As an influencer I ask that you appeal to our fishing brothers and sisters to carry with them some type of anti bacterial rinse. Thanks for your videos. Love you and Puddin. Keep up the great work!

Glad to hear that you're recovering at a good pace. I had a similar thing on my right hand but not nearly as bad, they injected some antibiotics gave me some antibiotic meds and quickly recovered.

That's an ugly infection, Darci! I experienced a similar infection on one of my toes while on a canoe trip to northern Minnesota last year. Had to dress the wound everyday and keep bacitracin on it for four days until we got back civilization. The infection looked as evil as the one on your finger. It took about three weeks to heal.

I got a horrible infection on my leg from a fin poke on my leg. Had to go through 2 cycles of antibiotics and get it lanced at hospital took over 4 month to heal. Definitely be aware if you work on the deck, so t be careless about your wounds.

My fiancé and I were feeding Tarpon in Islamorada last year and one came up and took her whole hand. It got infected and she still has scars all up and down her hand!

get lots of small cuts when fishing, found that using Cortaid cream and wrapping it helps it heal fast.

Tea Tree oil is the best thing I've ever used and it helps heal extremely fast. I always have it on hand for any cuts, burns, stings or bug bites.

get some chlorhexidine at your local pharmacy. It's sold under different names depending on the supplier. This is what surgeons use to wash their hands before surgery. I keep some handy as I get cuts and poked when I fish. Saves a trip to the doctor. Love your videos.

Always use the steel gloves when cleaning fish. Blue Gabe almost cut his hand off. I know you've been doing it for years. But, for safety sake use the steel mesh gloves to clean fish.

Love all your videos! Play it safe. You should take a break and keep your hands continuously clean until that infection is entirely gone. If you put gloves on top of your infection and keep using using your hands to fish it can breed more bacteria. Lots of love! You both have an awesome channel!

Walmart has a generic triple antibotic ointment that i use immediatly on all cuts and scratches and it is the best over the counter for everything even burns😁

When I start to feel like I might be getting sicl, I roast about 6 cloves of garlic and then eat it all. Natural antibiotic. You can drizzle honey on the garlic too for an added antibiotic boost.

Good Lord Girl!! I keep soapy bleach water on board when I get a cut or nick!! Been known to stick my hands in kerosene and gasoline too! I would stick with the soapy bleach water tho! Prayers for full recovery!

I'm paranoid about these bacterial infections... here on the west coast we have that flesh eating bacteria stuff. I keep a heavy alcohol sanitizer on the boat and will frequently wash my hands with hydrogen peroxide after trips, and occasionally put neosporin on my hands like lotion before I got to sleep... safety first, stuff is serious. 👍

Brian, you can tell Darcie her fish cleaning job is not in danger. Glad you went to Urgent Care. I ended up being taken to the ER by ambulance because of cellulitis that got out of hand. Not fun. You keep that finger clean sweetie (you are a female much younger than me, so you are a sweetie). They treated me with the same stuff. Wear plastic gloves when you are on the water.

Had the same thing happen as a kid, had to have a pick line that I injected antibiotics every six hours for 2 weeks absolutely not fun and it hurt something fierce.

Happened to me once. Now I wear gloves. I used honey for about an hour and then put aloe vera on mine and it heals in about 4 days. It hurt like hell too. But wear gloves. Mine came from a nick while filleting fish. 😉

Turmeric powder in capsules helps with infections like that also. Ive have cat bites that cause my hand to swell cutting of circulation, and I take 3 or 4 Turmeric capsules, and the swelling goes down.... Turmeric is a blood thinner also so dont take more than 4 at a time

If it comes back have them look for fish tuberculosis, I own seafood business and we see it every once in a while especially in knuckle. Will get better then worse, they will cut and look for fin or something give antibiotics it will improve then get worse, slow to heal and can take months. Hope you don’t have it, good news is it is almost always localized. My brother in law took a year to finally get proper diagnosis, was from a cut just like yours from Spanish mackerel on the boat

Crab are nasty... any nicks from them need to be cleaned and taken care of immediately. I got the same type of infection, only just above my fingernail. Still can't grow a nail on that finger. Ironically, my left hand ring finger also. Glad you're healing up, it'll affect that joint for a long time.

Everyone has a suggestion. Keep a bottle of spray hydrogen peroxide. Spray in all cuts immediately & through out your day. Goes a long way in preventing infection.

Bactrum can make you more sensitive to sunlight, so be careful when you get outside when you're going fishing

Did you get cut crabbing the intercoastal at Boynton? If I'm not mistaken the city and the FWC suggested not fishing or consuming anything from the intercoastal for at least a year from last June. The sewer pipe leading out into the ocean broke at the intercoastal and pumped millions of gallons of treated sewage into the intercoastal over a month period. When I flew into West Palm last July I was amazed at the chocolate plume coloring the intercoastal and out the inlet into the ocean. When I ask about what it was this was what I was told. Take care of that finger.
