There is a black knob on the zig zag foot which allow the sewer to balance or go over thick fabric. I have used this trick. I have a Janome but I think this is for all machines.
Hi Nikki, I came across one of your older videos, obviously. I just wanted to add, there is a hole on your hump jumper for you to put a sewing machine needle in so it will hold your needle when your replacing it.
The hump jumper also has a little hole on one side at the top which is shaped to hold a sewing machine needle to assist with fitting it into your machine. At least they do have this little hole in the Hump Jumper in the UK. Im sure it must be the same for you. It’s shaped so that you can ensure the flat side of your needle goes in the right way round. A wonderful little tool.
@@SparkyOne549 My machine has a LOT of feet. The basic foot has a black button with a spring, is that what you're talking about? I always wondered about that springy bit...Also, according to my manual, the hump jumper that I have is actually a Button Shank Plate.
TFS ❣️ LOVE these, have them all but hump jumper. I use the black button on the side of my foot to set the height higher. But I should get one so I can use other feet, walking foot, and not always that one when have bulky seams lol
If you use the tiny round 3/8” sticky leather “thimbles”, don’t throw them away. Reuse by sticking them on the back four corners of your rulers. They are thin and usually have enough glue adhesive left for this purpose to prevent rulers from sliding. They have stuck to my rulers for four years.
Great video! I just bought a humper-jumper but haven't used it yet. I've had an Olipfa long ruler for about 30 years. It has really been a workhorse. Those block numbers sound like something I could use right now. I'm making my husband a cowboy quilt and putting the blocks in the right order is about to drive me over the edge! 🤣
I never found that I needed the hump jumper. I just held the toe of the foot down while I crossed the hump and it worked perfectly. The O’Lipfa ruler is what I started with and loved more than any other also.
The Humper Jumper will save me when I make my totes!!! I can’t wait to buy and use it! One note on the blade refills…please be careful because with mine they came all “stuck” together as metal will do with metal, and I cut my fingers pretty good trying to separate them. Maybe some come packaged better than that, but the ones I got were mean to me! LOL I don’t sew quilts but your little circles are genius!! Love all these ideas. Glad I stumbled across your video. I’m going to go shop now!!!!😊
@@AprilNY100I had the same issue-- so I laid the stack on a paper towel and took pointed toothpicks in each hand to begin separating them. That's what I do anytime I need to change to a new blade 😊
Hi, love all your ideas. With the glue sticks if you get every thing lined up where you want it iron the glued surfaces in place (perfect for putting in zips) Iron until glue sets it just takes a few seconds, Once dry nothing slips so you can confidently sew in place. Great for putting pockets on shirts don't iron till you are sure you have the right placement set glue with iron and sew. Great for sewing in collars just don't set glue until you have everything centred then set glue with iron. Dab a little on a button stick it where you want it and sew it on. As we know pants tend to shrink so before cutting and sewing the hem of jeans don't cut them off just yet fold them up and glue (be generous with the glue) when you are sure length us correct DON'T sew just yet set glue with iron pants wear them usually hem won't come down until you pull it apart or wash it. This is a great method for growing kids jeans and pants. I have been using these methods for over 30 years and still find new ways to use the glue. I use UHU paper glue. And it washes out in one wash Cheers Bronwyn
I love the fabric birds you have hanging by your door. I have some from my mother-in-law. She was a very creative fabric artist. I’ve never seen them before. Did you make them? Would love to see a tutorial. I’m a new subscriber. Love your blog.
Oh my word! Where has the hump jumper been?!? I am seriously going to order one right now! I use those same exact rotary blades and I think they are amazing! You are right, rotary blades (especially the Olfa ones) are so expensive!
Love the row/block markers. I make new ones every time from scrap paper. Your are much nicer. Also I take photos of layout. I spend so much time laying them out I don’t want to sweat it if some numbers fall off.
I also have the lip ruler and its also was my 1st ruler. Love it. However.. i have a new "go to" ruler. I absolutely adore my stripology ruler. Making binding strips or skinny strips for little blocks has never been easier.
Check your hump jumper as well, mine has a tiny hole on one end to help with changing my machine needle. Put the needle in the hole with the flat side where indicated, and use it to hold the needle in place while you’re tightening it. Voilà!
No one seems to care about responsible disposal of all the pins, needles, blades we sewers use. Please keep it all out of trash and landfill. Use a jam jar or coffee can to contain that type of waste. On hazardous collection day, pay them a visit with your collection. ❤
I have been doing this for years. Yes. It is completely inconsiderate, of our hard working rubbish disposal people, if you just throw it in the bin loose.
Is the glue stick permanent or temporary? Does it wash out? I have oodles of non-fusible interfacing and would like to find a way to make it permanently fuse to fabric, of course without wrinkling or discoloring the fabric.
I really enjoy your presentations - fun, clear and concise. Why the backgound music? IMO it doesn't add value to the video. I'd prefer to hear just what you have to say.
I sent you an email after I bought the block numbers, can not download the zippered folder, It says empty of a virus. Can you please respond back to me. Thank you
Hi, I believe I did write back and included a new link to the pdf for you! If you do not see it, please email me at pincutsew at yahoo dot com so we get get your quilt markers to you!
Thanks, those will be great, you should have the Manufacturers give you a code for us to use when placing an order so that you will be credited, or does the link work the same way?
The hump jumper is very handy. I keep several of them around. I will have to check out those titanium rotary cutter blades next time I need blades 😁thanks for your videos
I'm going to try the glueline stick. I have used school glue that I think is different than other elmer's glue sticks and does wash out, but it gets hard in places where that isn't helpful. I have a hump jumper but I often can't find it when I need it so I usually use a plastic case that sewing machine needles come in. Different brands have various thickness and so I can pick out the one that is most useful. Thanks for the great video!
I have that vintage tin and it is full of Canadian pennies. My kids and nephews played a card game with them yesrs ago. Tins and small wooden or cardboard boxes(from the jewelry's have been used many a time). I work at a heritage museum and all summer I have used the Redbird matches box to carry my tiny hexagons and needle and threads. Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work everyone.
Thanks for all your helpful videos. I always learn something from them! I hate buying rotary blades. Like you said, they are so expensive!! I’ll be getting them on Amazon from now on. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your renovation house. Sounds like a lot of work but fun also❤️🤗
On my quilting ruler, I put transparent washi tape along the 1/2" measure on the one side. I can still see through it but am alerted that this is the side with the extra 1/2".
Just an fyi…on your Janome’s zig zag foot (foot A) has a built in hump jumper (self leveling) button ! It’s that little black button on the right side. When reaching the bulky or hump in the seam the front of your foot will slope up, stop sewing. Press the needle down button, raise the presser foot press in that black button…it will lock in place when the front of the foot is level then lower your presser foot. The back of the foot will now be raised up (if the foot was leveled when pushing in the black button) and level with the bulk of the seam! It will eliminate that long stretched out stitch and the need for one more tool that’ll get lost!
I use crayola markers and write on the quilt blocks the letter/number and it washes out. It's about 4 USD and much cheaper than sewing markers. I use them for shirts, quilts, pants, etc. And they all wash out. It's easier than pinning and getting stuck with pins. Cheaper, less hassle, nothing is lost until you wash it. That way if the quilt pattern has a certain letter/number, I can direct write it. For Black--I use a washable chalk marker, also really cheap and doesn't rub out easily until I wash it. Less messy than tailor's chalk, but more permanent until I need it gone.
Wish I had seen your video sooner. A few months ago I bit the bullet and bought two packs of rotary blades at a very high price so I would have them. Should have checked Amazon. Will keep this in mind for the future. Thanks for your tips!
When my rotary blades get dull, I fold a large piece of foil into what becomes a square or rectangle with 8 layers of foil. Then I roll my rotary cutter blade through the foil layers in different directions and voila! I have a sharp blade again...and a square or rectangle of shredded foil that can be tossed out. It is much cheaper than buying new blades.
Thanks for sharing this info with us. This is very valuable. I agree with you on the Titanium Blades and the high cost of the regular blades at the stores. I use Titanium too. TX/PR
That's funny that you dislike the extra 1/2" on a ruler because I'm just the opposite as I love it! Probably because I can't sew a scant 1/4" inch when the quilt top calls for it and my squares never line up right.❤😅😊
I use my old Magic baking powder can to put my used needles and rotary blades. Once full you can properly seal it with masking tape. Label sharps so those handling it are warned
Can you please write all the tools in the comments and where to get them. I could use the large ruler. I like the dark lines. When I was studying fashion, we use the rulers with the red lines. Lol as you get older you really b can't see those red lines on a ruler. Thank you for sharing. 😊❤❤❤❤
New sub. Been enjoying your channel recently. Love some of the tips you’ve been giving! Another good one here… those rotary blades! Loved the “file your fabrics” from another recently. Keep them coming! Thanks much!
