To all of those asking who makes the new camper; there’s an issue that came up with the camper and I’m waiting to make sure that they smooth it over before I can recommend/vouch for the company. If & when they smooth it over, I’ll give y’all more details!
Thanks for that! I hope it works out for you and I can relate. I just had the fresh water tank fall out of my brand new camping trailer while I was driving to camp this past week, so that trip didn't happen. So far the dealer is being good about it but remains to be seen till after the work is done.
Hey thanks for the update! Hopefully it's nothing major and they take care of it. Can't wait to see the build. I'm currently on the fence between a similar build or converting a large SUV. 4x4 Van would be ideal but man those can get expensive.

The company who makes these are USA campers. They are a Mexican owned company located in Montclair CA and definitely deserve some recognition. Pretty sure they build for Belair without the white washed price tag
When I was a teen my StepDad built from scratch a truck camper. Looked high end, not home built! He did it because NO ONE would customize it the way he wanted and we needed. That swing out window is genius! You have so many possibilities. Congrats and best of luck!
Ahh looks like a BelAir camper. They’ve been a round for a while. I was thinking about their set up but I’m waiting for project M. That she’ll will not last more than a decade in PNW rainy weather. It’s similar to cheap RV siding. However, the price is half as much than other stuff on the market.
Yeah you gotta redo the butyl tape under all the trim and re seal roof vent every so often depending on the use and storage. But other than that as long as you dont let it leak itll be good for a good long time
@@JonnyDIY yup. my 1979 camper is still going strong and dry. only water issue ever came at the rear corner jacks, where water mitigated in on the lag bolts.
Love the camper, I had an 02 tundra that had the same dreaded check engine light, mine was always the oxygen sensor. I got sick of changing it and drove the last 100,000 miles out of 346,000 miles without ever changing another sensor. My light would come on randomly but never affected the trucks performance.
I had that happen on my car. A buddy of mine used to work in the repair/detail shop of a car rental place. He told in before trying to find an issue, they would disconnect the battery for a minute, hook it back up and see of the light came back on. He said if it didn't, you were fine. Did that, never came on again.
I’ve seen a lot of campers that have a roll out platform on the bed area that can be rolled out to extend the length of the bed if you decide to use that too area as a bed. Would be a good build idea👍🏼
Hey Jonathan, I am very familiar with the company and they should take good care of you. Can you post the model height (like 38" or 42"), the actual standing height inside (like 64") and also your height. It would really help your viewers who are considering a shell like this. Cheers
USA Camper Shells in Montclair CA. They also build them for Bel Air but you can get them direct from Martin (Mar-teen) at USA Camper shells for $2k less

@@ProperBitOfFrock it looks like Jonathan went straight to the maker. USA camper shells in Monclair. Martin is the man. Bel Air camper shell is the middleman. I paid extra 1200 because I went through BelAir camper shells for mine.

Really nice! Just as a heads up ... I've purchased 5 or 6 camper shells in Southern California. Every single one had mounting issues. You might want to double-check to see if they drilled the holes straight and in the proper location. The key thing is that you really want good-sized washers underneath the bedrail. Also, they never use stainless steel ... so I recommend swapping out the mounting hardware for stainless steel.
Wow Jonathan, its really nice and for the price I think you did very well I like that it’s big but yet it’s nowhere as heavy as the Slumber Queen which I wish I could have bought from you it was pretty cool but very heavy for your truck. This one you will be able to go off-road camping/fishing and not have to worry as much as tipping over due to top heaviness. I’m excited to see how you set up your new rig I bet it will be awesome I like the ideas you come up with.

YO J!!! Those are awesome and that was my original choice for a truck camper. When I went to the dealership and really put it thru what wanted to use it for the two things that I could not get past was the fact I could not stand up in it (I’m 5’10’’) and could not sleep up top. This is the best of both worlds for you and I cannot wait to see what you do with it!!! Sweet pickup dude!!!

Crazy that’s exactly where I bought my mid rise camper shell for my Silverado from Century. I didn’t know they actually made camper shells there until the day I picked up my camper while they were installing it lol.

Just ordered mine. Pretty much your exact setup except for a 2014 Tacoma Double Cab. It will be bed width, 40" tall off the bed rails and have a 26" front cabover. Ready about mid November.
Glad to see you’re back into a truck camper. I just got back from a long weekend near Big Bear in my similar style truck camper shell on my 2005 Tundra SR5 2WD that I purchased from Belaire Shells for $4800. You got a great deal! My windows are higher so I didn’t go for the taco truck window option. I wanted to see the world from my bed platform without bending down. But, I got the LED lights and fan, too. I was told the overhead wouldn’t support more than 150 lbs. I store my clothes, paper goods and my doggie sweaters and treats up there. I built a bed platform from 8020 extruded aluminum (to save on weight)across the back (5’8” x 32”) as I am 5’1” and this is plenty of space for me to sleep. I got a 3 drawer chest from IKEA and took the bottom drawer out. This is where I store my SOK lithium battery and I attached the inverter and fuse box to the side of the cabinet with the charge controller on the side. The solar wiring cables go out the bottom of the back door up the back door to the roof to my two 100W solar panels mounted on 1” rails I installed myself to the edging of the aluminum. The rest of my storage consists of a plastic drawer system for dodads, nesting table with a salad bowl from Walmart for a sink equipped with plumbing, a usb faucet, and two 6gal Gerry cans for fresh/grey water strapped to it, and a balsa wood drawer system I got at TJMAX for my pots, pans, dry goods, etc. These cabinets are attached to the 1/4 plywood on the truck bed that is covered with faux wood vinyl flooring. I wallpapered with a faux whitewash except for the rear slider window into the cab. That was papered with a white brick design. I carry a lot of stuff. So, I have a swing away Thule box on the receiver and I use a dog ramp propped on a folding stool to get in and out at the campsite. I love this setup and think you’re gonna love yours too. Looking forward to more of your videos!
I think you made a great choice. Almost exactly like the one I am building myself except I'm making it a popup to I can actually stand up inside. I think it is the best compromise between a topper and a camper. If I had known I could buy one almost like mine for a few K I might have done that instead. But I'm getting close now and can't wait to "customize" the interior, just like you. Congratulations, can't wait to see what you do with it.
if that bed area had a little bit more head room, you could really use it as a platform to sleep. Could you please reveal the price and the brand? I would definitely get one of it if i were not living in city

I like your NEW camper. $3500 is a great price. Another idea is to make an extension towards the rear, for the cab over bed. I don't know how long the truck bed is, you were sleeping back there with the shell so that would work. I put a 12v refrigerator with a seat delete, but the fridge is too big, so there is no real passenger seating. Anyway excellent choice.

I love those Bel-Air camper shells...I've only seen a few of them here in South Carolina....I think they are the perfect fit between a expensive slide in camper and a head banger camper shell....you're a lucky man!

Before you start building anything you need to try putting your mattress on that stop shelf and sleeping up there for 3/4 nights to see if you can stand sleeping up there. If you can deal with it being short it would give you so much space below. But that would only be a plus if you could still get good sleep.

That's the perfect setup for you it seems, take your time and build it right. Don't forget solar and some lithem batteries, make it the ultimate catch cook camp and editing machine. Road trip to Alaska coming up??
1. This is so far the best designed camper I saw in youtube. So well thought. 2. What is the name of the company that customized your camper? 3. You can always place back your bed with your storage table. I'm sure you can now seat straight from your bed and no longer slouch.

I read quite a few comments and two out of three things haven't appeared so far. 1. Have you considered something diagonally in the upper level? 2. Get a separate battery or batteries for the interior lights and the vent fan or you may become stranded in the middle of nowhere. You can buy a simple cut off, "Zoostliss" brand or "Audew" brand. I watched two videos and recommend both of them before you buy anything. 9 best 12 V battery isolators 2021 and What is a battery isolator and how does it work, by Redarc Electronics. Newer alternators have smart charge systems and will not work with some isolators. Happy travels and happy trails.
You could build an extension on part of the bed and sleep the other direction keeping the bed up at the top. Kind of like a bunk above the window but only part way and part way in the over-the -can part. That would keep your floor space open.
