Poppies... In Flanders Fields In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. LtCol Dr. John McRae, Canadian Army Medical Corps, (November 30, 1872, Guelph, Ontario, Canada - January 28, 1918, Boulogne-sur-Mer, France)

Those poppies are now very rare and worth hundreds of pounds, don't put it outside it will get stolen, you can buy special display cases to put them in, every poppy was for the death of a veteran, those poppies mean a lot to us in the uk, the Queen laid a poppy so did Prince Charles ( as was then) and William and Catherine went to see them at the Tower of London

That poppy was such a thoughtful gift.. I went to see the Tower of London poppy display on a cold foggy night in November 2014,. It was so poignant. I wanted to get one for my late Mum and Dad when they were still alive, as they both served in WW2 (Dad in the Royal Navy, Mum a driver in the WAAF). But they had all been sold by the time i got round to it. I'm so touched that you realise how precious and meaningful is - keep it safe as it represents one life lost in WW1. All the best JP great to see you still at it :)

As a Canadian who's grandfather fought in WW2, even though as an indigenous man, he was not legally allowed to vote in this country, and wouldn't be until 1960, the year before my mother was born, the poppy means so much to us. It represents all the blood spilled by our young men (including my grandfather's friends from the old neighbourhood) for the cause of freedom. I wear my poppy every year. Look up "In Flanders Fields", the famous poem from World War 1, written by Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae.

Hi Joel, the Poppy is a wonderful gift, but to be honest I wouldn’t put it in your front garden as there are some real A-holes about who might steal it or at worse kick or take pot shots at it. Better to take it home to your parents and place it somewhere safe in the back yard.

I went to see the poppies at the Tower of London and it was a very emotional time. I was lucky enough to get hold of one when they were sold. The stem on mine was rusty as well, but they had been outside when they were at the tower. Although there was a lot of them they are a limited edition and will probably never be made again. I have mine proudly on show in my living room. I also have that David Bowie CD.

I learned something the other day about the poppy's. I was watching an old Jack Hargrieve's program - most people over 50 here in the UK will remember him and his tv programs called Old Country and Out of Town. A very interesting person that loved the old ways of life in the country, and would explain it all in great detail. In this particular program he explained that poppies used to be a common sight in the fields of the UK, and how they had a habit for just appearing in a field in their thousands. He explained that the poppy seed could lay dormant in the ground for a very, very long time. They would stay in this dormant state until something caused major disturbance to the field - a farmer making a deeper than normal plough for instance. The ploughing would totally cover up all other forms of plant life, whilst at the same time bringing the poppy seed to the surface, where it would instantly come out of it's dormant state and start to grow. Well, according to Jack, this is why the poppy is associated with the battlefields of the first war - the constant bombing tore the fields apart, which in turn caused all of the dormant poppy seeds to come to the surface and start to grow. Often leaving nothing but poppies in fields that had once been full of crops before the battle. Hence the poppy became associated with those lost on the battlefields.

Good to see you looking so well, Joel (haven't dropped by for a few weeks - preoccupied). The poppies are beautiful; they were displayed in my hometown for a while, attached to a net and draped across the front of the maritime museum, a beautiful, triple-domed building that is currently covered in scaffolding and awaiting a grand reopening. Always enjoy your unboxing videos. PS - Eurovision is dreadful. It's no longer the family affair it was when I was growing up in the 70s and early 80s. It was just light-hearted fluff in those days, but it's long been a beacon for all that's trashy. Yes, I'm a snob.

Don't worry about the rust on the stem, it's supposed to be like that. As the others say, DO NOT put that in your front yard/garden/whatever, its worth a life given for the cause of freedom & how much is that worth? To buy originally they each cost around $30 or so, nothing in relation to the symbolic meaning. Treasure it, pass it down through your family & think of the freedom gained for us all. Each poppy is priceless.

Have you seen them yet with Michael Palin in them? I grew up listening to Pink Floyd, from older family members playing the records and I am probably older than your dad. Joel, here's a funny, personal story about drinking cider for you to enjoy. Many years ago when I was aged 13 we went on holiday from our home in the Manchester area to Plymouth to visit my two sisters and their respective families. One of my brothers-in-law was an avid brewer of his own home-brew cider and he gave me half a glass to try from the batch that he had in a huge cask in their backyard - as I remember it was really 'posh' because the cask had a tap on the side of it so that its contents could be easily decanted into glasses. It tasted so good but was also lethal which at that tender age I was totally unprepared for. Anyway about an hour after that 'tasting' of mine we went out shopping in Plymouth City Centre and I remember standing at a bus stop and needing to go to the toilet because of its after-effects. Unfortunately for me the nearest public toilet was opposite to the bus stop and located across a very busy dual carriageway and I had to risk my life trying to cross it to pee....it was my first experience of drinking alcohol therefore I was still slightly p!ssed from it - it could also have been my last if I hadn't have managed to cross that dual carriageway in both directions. Fast forward 8 years and we went to visit the same sister and her family down there a couple of months before we emigrated to Canada and that same brother-in-law had his (in)famous cask in the same location outside their backdoor and he said it was the same batch of cider that I'd tried 8 years before. When I asked him why that was he simply remarked that he didn't drink it himself because he preferred Newcastle brown and my sister loved red wine therefore they never drank it themselves and his home-brew cider was " specially reserved for guests ". When I tried it the second time at age 21 it was just as delicious as I remembered it to be but was even more lethal than the first time....the effect of it was more like rocket fuel than cider and, before you ask, no we didn't go out shopping in the city centre immediately afterwards which was a bloody good job considering that I had a lot more than half a glass of it the second time around. To bring things right up to date I've now been completely teetotal for almost the past 20 years so if I went to visit Plymouth again I wouldn't even try any of his home-brew cider although I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't the same batch as I'd tried at age 13 ( my first alcoholic drink ) or at age 21. ✌😁✌🇬🇧🇺🇸

18:29 - that is in Chinese. Turn the page to portrait orientation. The script reads right to left and top to bottom. My Chinese skills are no longer what it once was after spending 33 years living in Australia, so I'm not able to translate it for you. Sorry. If you know anybody who can read Chinese, maybe you can ask them what it says.

You turn the paper to portrait orientation and it’s Japanese writing I believe and you read it top to bottom. The dish could be a saki cup or something to put coins or pins in !!! Take your pick. Try photographing it with the iPad and getting google to translate it maybe
