I am on my 3rd year with Computer Science. I got a similar email just a few weeks ago. I had my in text citations but somehow forgot to add the reference list at the bottom of the post in the discussion. I was completely shocked and distraught by the plagiarism email. I felt just as you explained while reading the email. So now I am very careful about doublechecking all my work before submitting.
This is a great thing to share and very helpful. I would also feel shocked and upset if this happened to me. It's easy to make a simple mistake like this and we should all be vigilant to make sure we don't accidentally plagiarize. Thank you so much making these detailed and informative videos on the UoPeople experience. They're very helpful 👍
As a graduate and professional you need to conform to the plagiarism rules. I totally agree with the university to train the professionals of the future. Plagiarism destroys self confidence of the student and corrupt their soul.
Going to University is to gain knowledge and experience. The challenges like this make you better not worse. Smooth sea doesn’t make skillful sailors. Enjoy the process and fight for your rights rightfully.
Jesus, even learning a small part from the internet and gettting a zero. That's harsh. Thanks for sharing the video, we learn st new here. Im still in shock.
This is scaryyy for me. It's hard not to make any other plagiarism mistake during 4 years. That's crazy. But thanks for sharing this experience. I must take this serious now.
Thanks for sharing your valuable experience, I'm going to embark on this incredible journey this year, I'm so excited and worried at the same time. I'm now feeling more informed and confident after watching your video. Thanks and best regards
Thanks Alot sis it's a wonderful to see u today I want this year to join this university so please can help me more information about this university and the faculty computer science thanks u so much
It's a bit scary but I like how they take this issue seriously. So far I have only used paperrater to check my work but I don't think this is enough. Basically, I just try to follow all rules about citation. I really wish the university provided the subscription to something like Grammarly premium. Sorry an out of topic question. Did you change your major? CS 1101 was my first course right after ENGL 0101. That's before I became a degree-seeking student. You seem to have taken other courses before CS 1101?
I think you started your study earlier than me maybe UoPeople already changed their program a bit. Before CS 1101, I needed to study English 0101 and Online Education Strategies ( it’s all about citing and referencing) to become a degree seeking student. The funny thing is that I didn’t see those violation rules mentioned in OES course. They said it’s all written in UoPeople catalog but I guess not many people pay attention to all details in hundred pages of the catalog until they made mistake. I think UoPeople just added Online Education Strategies lately after students made a lot of mistakes in plagiarism. We could see from our president speech, he repeated so many times about students begging for fixing their mistakes… I think Unicheck could do the plagiarism checking well but you gotta pay for it, there’s limited features when you use it as a free account. Now I try to write everything myself and cite whatever I get from the internet, I’m already scared. You’re also recommended to get no more than 40% from other sources in your paper, gotta be careful still!
@@changkao_ still similar I guess. After ENGL 0101, I took UNIV 1001 and CS 1101 at the same term. And that's also what I sm doing. Being very careful with citation etc. But I sm still sticking with the free pagiarism checkers tho.
Have you heard about "turnitin" ? You can upload all your assignment at a time. Your institution could partner with turnitin to check plagiarism and will be easier for students.
Is 2023, I am newly undergraduate in Bsc Computer Science at UoPeople and got plagiarism report from my short course known as ALX Africa which is a software engineering training program
Plagiarism is always a serious thing at any university. But zero is kinda harsh and failing grade in 3rd reported violation is just scary. Did you try to beg for 5 or 6? Thanks for sharing this experience. Im going to join the university soon. And this video is justttt super helpful.
I didn't think begging worked according to the university rule in the catalog. You also could see from the President's speech, a lot of heartbreaking emails sent to him from students he didn't accept 'cause that's the rule and people are treated fairly that way. I didn't attempt to do so when I knew there was a chance I made a mistake. Be careful, man anyway!
One question because I am not sure if I got it right. If you would’ve marked the code which you got from a source and written the source then it wouldn’t have been a plagiarism?
Even you put the reference, the source you use better not get over 27% of that. I don’t remember the exact percentage. basically you can just use other source then reference it there but there’s some limit in still.
@@changkao_ thank you so much! My fear of plagiarism is really my major issue why I still didn’t have the guts to start studying. Even though this horror happened to you, the way you explain how to avoid it helps me a lot. ☺️🙏
I did happen to me once but I contacted the professor and explained that I uploaded the draft and I remember that I submitted it and I didn't know why it showed up non-submited and I almost got non grading for the assignment. But the professor checked and found out that I uploaded things on time and he did give me the score for work. And I've learnt thing that I need to check it again and again the status of submision to make sure it's uploaded. I hope it's going well with you then.
Hi, what does it mean that some courses are proctored? Does it mean that there is one proctored final exam or are there many proctored exams? Does a course that does not say “proctored” also have a proctored final exam? Thanks!
proctored courses are the ones which there will be proctor in the exam Non-proctored ones are the ones you take the exam by yourself normally multiple choice question. There’s no one looking at you, just you
How high EQ and IQ you are. How so much effort you have taken. I swear that event will affect me whole year later. By the way, you did great work after being so shocked and scared.
Whatever you use, you need to modify it into your work and add the reference source in APA standard. Beside double check it with plagiarism tool to make sure your work is plagiarized or not. If it’s informed you are plagiarized, whatever you submit gets failure risk.
If you are unsure about the question, use chatgpt to put it into simpler terms for you to understand. That's all you are allowed to do with chatgpt. If you use chatgpt to create an answer, then you haven't actually done the work yourself. This is grounds for plagiarism/collusion, which is not allowed.
