The day has finally come that I got an in ground irrigation system and this video is all about the install of that system. I have been using above ground irrigation for many years with great results but the ease of use of in ground irrigation was something I had always wanted. Here I show you how Iowa Irrigation installed my system using Hunter MP Rotators and also the Hunter Hydrawise controller.

You’ve made the best investment in going with Hunter. My sister and brother in-law have their Hunter system for twenty one years and have never had a single malfunction. Their timers and valves have been flawless and the only sprinkler head that needed replacing was due to damage from a snowblower. They had spares because when they added their driveway, they took a zone out and have a few extra heads. This is the Kitchenaid stand mixer, the Kirby vacuum, the John Deere tractor of sprinkler systems. I still think that you should have a National Walking Sprinkler Model B-3 just for the fun of it. They’re highly entertaining and every bit as well built as an anvil. I think that you will want to aerate the areas where the equipment disturbed your soil in order to return the soil to its soft, non-compacted state before top dressing. Congratulations Ryan! Life just got easier and you won’t realize how much work regular hose end watering was. I’m looking forward to a video of the zones running with the sun illuminating the streams of water from your sprinklers. You can make it look like the Bellagio Hotel

Me i was lucky was a 300 year old farm house on my property on my land . Farmhouse was leveled and split into two properties. Besides finding live mortars from WWII ... I discovered a 200 year old well that was capped and my garage foundation built on that ... the Turkish neighbor told me I had a well ... when i found it under the crawl space under the house and drilled a hole into the concrete cap. I dropped a flashlight down 50 feet . An amazing Find!! In the center of the well someone drilled further in the center and added a PVS pipe . When I plum bobbed the depth of the dry well at 50 feet i found the string dropped another 25 feet of pure water . I was lucky enough to drill through the concrete cap and then up through the garage concrete floor and place a pump in the forward part of my garage . Finally when I dropped 70 feet of 1” PVC pipe i am ready for the next step . Life is cool in France free water !!!!

Did my system myself 10y ago. Five weekends of heavy work but lots of fun and massive satisfaction. I also know every inch of the system and how it works. I have to say though that these machines are impressive and they do much much less damage to the lawn after all. At least in comparison to what I have done :)

Super happy for you with the watering system. Questions: How much did it cost? How many sprinkler heads where needed and did you decide where there where places? What’s piping did you need in the basement and why? I thought they hook watering system to water spigot? Sorry for all the questions but plan to do as well soon. Thxs.
@ryanbrazeau6059
@ryanbrazeau6059 5 лет назад
Safe to say he probably can’t get to answering everyone’s questions, he has a lot of subscribers. Generally, the contractor will draw up the plans based on type of landscape and water supply. Spigots generally do not provide the adequate volume/pressure required to run a system that large. Main lines are generally 3/4” or 1” where as spigots are 1/2”. I’m guessing this system cost him upwards of $7-8k. Not including the cost to fix the damage caused by their sloppy work.

I redid the irrigation system in my house a couple years ago to fix a terrible layout. I rented a pipe puller and it trashed the turf and was hard to get into tight spots. I ended up renting a small trencher to get into all the tight spots and finish. If I had to do it over I would have done it all with the trencher. The pipe puller is nice for long unobstructed distances but it does as much or more damage as a trencher.

My bill dropped over $200 a month after switching. The water is cheap but you pay for sewage. I think the tire grooves will level out. They do here , but we have more sand. I had a guy drop bricks on my lawn and it all disappeared. Good luck

Congrats on the system... but the company really did make a total mess... I would have had very mixed emotions like "Great, my sprinkler system is finally installed but why did you need to wreck my perfect lawn?". There was NO need to bring in heavy equipment for this job and cause so much damage to your lawn. Mine was done a long time ago, but the trenching/piping machine was a small unit that left absolutely no damage. The whole install took a day. When the job was done, hardly a mark was visible and within a short time there was no sign of the work at all. Anyway, you'll benefit from having it. It was wise to separate the zones in the front...

Would have loved a FLAT yard when we built our house 21 years ago. No luck at all. DH put in 10 zones on 15k sf lawn (fenced in back yard). Zones include porch hanging flowers, 4 cedar boxes w drip irrigation, garden areas next to grass, etc, the rest grass. Water is pulled from city source, makes it convenient but would have loved to have pulled from a well, not feasible in suburbia.

if your comfortable sharing, would love to know how much this install cost.

We had a gentleman pull good size actual PVC pipe thru ground where DH wanted them to go. The rest he did himself with Hunter sprinklers. He's added 3 more zones since 20 years ago, but back then it cost us about $2k doing most himself. 15k sf yard with7 zones and working around fenced back yard

For a yard size similar to yours, what should someone expect to pay for a system similar to what you had installed? I’ve been considering having this done on our property.

I am lost for words with all that damage to your perfect lawn you had before the sprinkler installation. I would of had them drive on spit down the middle 3/4" sheets of plywood to prevent as much damage as possible. Oh well, hopeful others learn from your vid and my comment.

Looks great! Please please please do a video again of how to level. Especially with the big, deep dents. I have the same problem after a well and septic was put in and I’m not sure the best way to fill in the holes without killing the grass. Or should I just reseed Thanks!

Hey Ryan, maybe rent a sod cutter roll up the grass level the dirt and lay the sod back down.

Looks good! I run the Rain Bird system, I also had the "tire track" issue, within a month wasnt really an issue anymore. Hopefully yours pans out the same!!

I sort of luck out. My house had an irrigation already installed. But it had not ran in 20 years. The valves were rotted and dead, the heads were mostly all busted and some of the pipes leaked. Still, could be worse.

Sweet. Take measurements of where the lines are relative to pavement edges etc while the scars are still visible. It might save you time digging them up in the future.
