Woohoo! You got an offer! Great news... unless you have other interviews you're ALSO excited about... so what's a job seeker to do?
There are no easy (or entirely correct) answers here. Most importantly, job seekers must think about what is best for THEMSELVES. The critical thing to remember is keep the lines of communication open and be as transparent as possible with everyone involved.

Take the offer and then if a better one comes take that offer and reject the first offer. Because when they're ready to cut you they're not going to think twice. Hedge your bets and bet on yourself.

What if the second company is even worse? Also, the first company might actually be good once you give it a chance and settle in.

This type of thing is so industry specific. Going through it now as a teacher with multiple offers. Offer 1 came first but HR is unresponsive and didn’t get me paperwork and answer any of my questions. It’s been a week. Within that week 2 other schools have since made offers. One of those offers has answered all questions and have really persued me. Offer 2 promised me paperwork Monday meanwhile school 1 never answered any questions. In this case I’m going with #2 friendly and responsive! You never know when you’ll need HR and I don’t want to collaborate with folks who don’t value my time as well. You indeed do teach people how to treat you❤

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 As job seekers, we have to realize that we are free agents in the NFL Corporate arena & not inferior; therefore not falling prey to the corporate double standards when deciphering to act upon what works best for yourself. At the end of the decision, it's about living with your dignity & integrity intact regardless how you speculate the recruiter will view you. Personally, I admire & respect those who know what they want & stay committed to their compass in a tactful manner; which is an attractable trait & exudes confidence that will carry with you wherever you land.

Yes, because now you're in control and you can decide better. And if you can attend the interviews before your start date it's even better. We always waste time and effort and at the end we are rejected or ghosted.

I really appreciate this video as I'm struggling with an offer that was a lowball offer made to me today & an uncomfortable conversation that followed between me & the recruiter. You helped me feel confident in asking for what I'd like & if they don't want me, I have other options thank God. I'm now a subscriber of yours! Thanks!

Having an offer rescinded is very rare but it happens. I've had verbal offers rescinded.

It's a good "problem" to have. I would say continue with the 1 or 2 interviews that really interest you but drop the backup options.

You should continue with the rest of the interviews. Even though you signed the offer. The company finishes your background check an drug screen. They can still not hire you the last minute. I've seen it happen to people. You're not officially their employee until you work there on your first day. I know two people still didn't get the job after they signed the offer letter.

Always accept an offer (after negotiation) - you can pull out later if you have a better one. Unfortunately that is how the game works. If you are valuable in the workplace then companies will understand. You'll probably burn that particular bridge but hey it's a big world out there.

Thanks for your advice on this topic, Amy! I am in a situation where I have an offer on the table from one company, but I am more excited for the second company that flew me in for final rounds of interviews and are in the process of deciding from the final slate of candidates. I have until this week (today is Monday) to make a decision on the first offer and the second company has let me know that I should hear back before the next Monday (so within a week). While talking to the second company today, I reiterated my interest and let them know about my other offer, and requested, if there was any way they could expedite the decision making process. And, I am hoping the response is favorable 🤞I also have work authorization challenges, so I cannot fully rely on the second company's decision either. Any additional advice for my situation specifically would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the video Amy 😊 Really appreciate if you can help me on my current similar scenario. I've received an offer for a 6-month fixed term role and need to let them know by coming Wednesday. But i have one final round with another firm on coming Wednesday itself for a 12- month hourly contract role. I did inform the recruiter of the 2nd company about the offer received and my keenness to accept 12-month contract offer, if received and hence asking for an interview before Wednesday which seems difficult according to him. So, my question is what is the best reason to tell the first offer company for asking extra time to consider the offer? Thanks in advance, Amy.

I wouldn't hire back someone who turned down my offer to take another job. What is to stop them doing it again, and again? You can't trust people like that.

My question for you, Amy: I noticed red flags after accepting a job transfer and received an eager interview request from my #1 job choice days later. Since my interview is days apart from accepting the job transfer offer, plus the interview for the job of my choice is within the same week that I start my new job: How should one address or avoid that discussion in an interview?
@marianabomfim5834

But then in that next interview, what do you say if they’re like oh do you have any other offers or second round interviews?

Thanks Amy. This is a helpful video. I’m in the same situation but instead of another company I am interviewing for, I applied to 2 positions at the same company. I aced position 1 and got an offer to discuss the details but the day the recruiter called I also saw another job posting I really liked and applied. How do I go about this?
@AmyMiller
@AmyMiller 6 месяцев назад
best rule here is to talk with the recruiter to see if you can be considered for both - it really depends on the rules of the organization and if. the other team would honor the interview feedback from the team that wants to make you an offer. You can always try to transfer internally later!
@dhenderson1810
@dhenderson1810 2 месяца назад
What if you rescind the first offer, take the second one, but it is a terrible place, you quit, try to go back to the first company, but they won't have you back because you betrayed them? So you end up with neither job because you got greedy. Better to work and take what you can.

I thought companies put you on a no hire list if you renege? I mean not all, but that is the worst case scenario. Consequences of reneging were not brought up so I was wondering...

Question, I received an offer. Should I ask the other interviewing companies if they can expedite process (letting them know) or let other interviews play out? Just looking to see how people tend to lean

That's literally me. I got a job offer at Big 4, 3 weeks ago and I signed the contract and all and sent it. I got a few interviews more after that but on the 9th of February, I got another interview at another Big 4, I accepted at first, but then at night I thought about it and the thoughts of like 'Oh I need to prepare for the interview again and go through all the trouble + I already signed the contract and I already faced that 'stress' when I got a counter offer at my current firm. (PS: I did tell them I already got a job offer but the time they called me, I was not like at the best place to think,so i accepted.) Then the next day, I called the HR and told him about declining the interview and all and explained to him and then sent a mail to formalise same. The interview was supposed to be literally today (14hrs ago) but I declined same. I wonder if I did the right think or not.

How can background check go wrong??
@AmyMiller
@AmyMiller Год назад
I've had to rescind offers because of failed background checks. Also someone lied about their degree - a degree wasn't even required! But they said they had one, background check said "nope" and we had to rescind. It sucked.

Seems from the comments that people agree with this behaviour, as being acceptable because it is in your own interest. But does that not make it ethical. I will simply ask you to use the thumb rule of ethical choices. How would you feel if an employer made an offer, you accepted it, canceled your other interviews and then they withdraw the offer. The whole point of the offer and acceptance is to protect both parties interests in a handshake agreement, before a contract is signed. The only reason to withdraw from an accepted offer, by either party should always be exceptional ( contract terms are clearly unbalanced or not reflecting the offer, candidate or receuitor lied during the interview, candidate has conduct issues that were not previously disclosed). Once a company issues an offer it does not issue other offers until the expiry of the offer. Once the offer is accepted, it stops conducting interviews for the role. That is integrity. Continuing to interview and accept other offers is ethically wrong. Is is an unacceptable behaviour which shows immense lack of character and integrity. A candidate who does that should never be invited for an interview again by the company.
