As a former racer and now casual motorsport fan, I will say that F1 and NASCAR are in fierce competition for the least watchable motorsports. I find Rally far more watchable because of the format and presentation, and in particular the commentators have time to explain what's going on. That being said, if you've never driven or co-driven it's probably still the equivalent of watching people perform mystical rituals to steer a car going way too fast through wildly complex terrain.

F1 seems to be really strict with Twitch copyright strikes, for example Tubbo (who has been streaming on Twitch for 6 years) got invited to stream the British Grand Prix by one of the teams (so he had permission), got his stream cut out in the middle of the race and his channel has been banned indefinitely (though it will hopefully come back after 48 hours). There seems to be a lack of communication between the teams and the F1 organization or between F1 and Twitch in terms of who had permission to stream the event. It's not a great look for the sport to try to expand but heavily suppress any content about it, especially the content that got prior permission.

Twitch seems incapable of making good business decisions, but also more broadly platforms are getting worse and worse at handling anything copyright or copyright adjacent. Stuff like watchalongs helps bring new viewers into things. If anything, doing this is off-putting to new fans.

I heard PDX and mentally squeeled (I'm not even that far from Portland International Raceway! Recommended SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO: Break a world record. I know, it doesn't sound like your kind of thing, but trust me, it is. The way the records work is a bit scammy. Not entirely a scam, but not far from one. Depending on how much you pay to Guiness basically determines what will happen. Pay them enough and they'll design a brand new record for you you are guaranteed to break (because it doesn't exist yet) and send an officiant to observe and do whatever promotion you want. There are MUCH cheaper options, but going through the company's red tape with a cheap option will also give you (and your audience) a lot of insight into the more expensive ones.

basically she was showing a page with race stats that is only accessible via a login (the terms of which presumably say you can't broadcast it) it's a bit silly because the same stats are also publicly accessible in other ways, just not that specific page she was showing at least: that's how I understood it. not a lawyer

There's a big streamer, who I will not name just in case, that streams mainstream television content to watch with their audience like 90 Day Fiancé and Survivor. I believe they don't get caught because they don't put it in the title AT ALL. Instead, they would put something like "playing the Sims" in the title. Maybe try that? If I remember correctly, they would also put things in their stream overlay that made the Sims title a teensy bit more believable, like showing the 90 Day Fiancé people in a Sims character select format.

I like that at least they have 'copyright skool', but do reach out to the point of contact in the complaint to make sure the ban really is in reference to the source of the timings and not just them getting territorial over timings in general since you are going to be under more scruitiny from them for a while and they might try to flag you again for even slightly iffy content to make an example. Getting clarification in writing will help you moving forward legally and will help them too TBH by establishing best practices. Also there's so much trouble to get into here in Portland obviously you had to get banned so we'd have your full attention lol

FYI - apparently, if anyone's subscription renews on a day you are banned, it will cancel the renewal. 2 days banned means you may have lost around 10% of your subs.

Twitch is on a ban spree is what im seeing. Considering Tubbo got banned from twitch for streaming the london F1 race WHEN HE WAS LITERALLY INVITED BY F1 TO BE AT THE EVENT AND STREAM IT ON TWITCH. THATS WHY HE WAS INVITED. And yet he has offically been permanently/indefinitely banned by a twitch mod.

It sounds like showing the live timing from an official formula one app was the problem causing that’s probably considered copyrighted content similar to how it’s probably against copyright to live broadcast a movie or tv cause by copyright law when we buy a physical copy of the tv show or movie we are only protected for viewing it in our own homes when u live broadcast that tv show or movie it probably crosses into public viewing which needs separate approval for that to be ok

What a weak and petty thing to strike over. F1 is kinda the last big racing thing I watch, but it's just getting more and more greedy in the dumbest and most petty ways that I'm losing interest rapidly. I'm curious who they think is going to watch the more they paywall it? There's only so many people that can, let alone will, afford something like a subscription service for ONE league of one sport. It feels like that's where it's headed, and fast.

you can uncheck audio sources that play during your stream so that they don't play on your vod, so i've started streaming just regular-ass music during my streams lmao (copyrighted music in a vod typically gets muted automatically by their detection system) but i always worry that something will happen during stream with it lmao. UMG sends a chat to me like "hey! stop streaming this to 6 people!!"
