I got Beastyqt to try out the civ I designed!

Last week Beasty tried out the Vietnamese, a modded civilization for AOE4 that I designed with the help of modder and fellow creator Hossein ( / @aoe4kingdom . In today's video I'll be reviewing his feedback, and I'll give some insight into why we made the design choices that we did. Get ready for a yap session!
I'll also be going over the new patch we're releasing today, which will address some of the more outsized critiques of the mod. Huge shoutout to everyone that tried the mod and sent me feedback.

Easy way to rebalance the teleport mechanic would be to add a delay based on distance (so the units don't actually teleport, so it would make it more believable that they're actually going through the tunnels.) The actual numbers could then be fiddled with to achieve optimal balance. If the modding tools allow all of that ofc.

As a Vietnamese person, I thank you very much for your time and dedication to creating this Civilization. This is my suggestion to make this army not too strong and retain its unique characteristics. 1: Worker Elephant: Vietnamese people raise elephants to help with work, but if there is a war, elephants will definitely be a very important part of the war. I hope a landmark has an intrinsic ability to help Worker Elephant transform. into a fighting elephant (at a higher cost and time) like a Russian ship. So we can play the strategy of playing many elephants in the early stages (of course there will be dangerous because buy many elephants will weaken the economy and army) and convert them all into war elephants and attack in one go. 2. Guerrilla fighting style I think increasing damage when near people's houses is not really reasonable, instead we can increase damage in the first 10 seconds after being detected by enemy vision, or standing in the invisible forest. A guerrilla army will be weak in a long battle, so it may be better to accumulate damage while undetected. Or let the soldiers have the passive ability to create invisible forests 3. about underground bombs Is it too powerful at a low cost? I would level 2 with Pho Minh Tower and by 2-3 pikemen and move to some resources near the enemy's house and place some bombs there, and when your team moves out it can completely kill 4 -5 villagers and gives a huge advantage

Thanks for the detailed feedback! Here are my thoughts: 1. The option to make worker elephants more combat oriented is interesting. In the latest version they get a tech that makes them much tankier which could help with this. 2. I love your ideas for guerilla warfare. Unfortunately the modding tools heavily restrict us on this front. Something being more focused around vision/trees could be really cool though if the devs ever implement that. 3. Regarding the mines, we tuned them down significantly already. I’m curious to see how players use them. What you’re describing seems sensible but I’ve yet to see it pulled off in a game.

love your work!! the history in the south east asia countries are so rich we have the majapahit, sultanate of malacca, khmer and many more and i cant wait modders to bring it to aoe4

Thank you for this. I saw his video and seeing the explanation and concepts behind it is really helpful. And very satisfying as well, the density of workers on farms was really a nice touch! Congratulations to both of you for making this happen

Okay, well awesome. Now I know why they can't do some of nthe things I was expecting them to (modding limitations) But also very interesting that I wanted them to be able to do things you intended. Like stealth hideouts and nydus network abilities plus more stealth in general. I'm excited to be to keep watching this through its refinement

Great work, Chilly! I have this idea for the Empty Garden House mechanic, what if you can make the pop increase permanently added so that even if that house got destroyed the total pop size will not change. It's a small buff but it reflects the idea of Empty Garden. "Yeah, destroy that house. We already got what we need."

Absolutely great work Chilly. So fun. Im trying to get my friends to play it in customs with me. Forgotten Empires needs to hire you yo lead your own team to create aoe4 expanded civs.

The biggest take-away I had from this video is seeing just how darn restrictive the modding capabilities are in AoE4. Very disappointing.

Just looking at recruiting staff hot key issue that they use different hetkeys as other military units I have 2 suggestions in mind. 1st idea: After taht landmark houses work as archeries and outputs as barracks. - this would encourage to build houses even more with outposts 2nd: instead of there are inplacement upgrade for outposts but barracks or archery. Those my 2 cents on matter.

25:40 Im pretty sure Order of the Dragon armor upgrade is stronger (+3) so it's not unprecedented

Great work! I really like to see persians in the game but i know persia didnt really exist like it does now bcs it was rulled by various dynasties like mongols or arabs but the dynasties were culturally persian and the Persian culture and language were very much alive, but tbh the game isnt completely historically accurate so i think if they wanted to add the Persian they could make a very good civ. Plus persia was one of the gunpowder empires

The Abbasids which are in-game controlled large parts of Persia for a long time. The Sultanate of Delhi was founded by another persianate state, the Ghurids. Both of them in-game showcase persianate culture. Something like the Seljuks or the Khwarezmians would work but would also be weird considering the Ottomans exist in the game already, and the Seljuks/Khwarezmians are their predecessors. However, maybe a sort of 'turco-persian' civ could work with its unique design being that in Age 1 you start as the Khwarezmian Empire (or the seljuks), in age 2 you become the Ilkhanate, in Age 3 you become the Timurids and in age 4 you become the Aq-Qoyunlu. Or something along those lines. With unique cultural bonuses tied to each age, kind of similar to the Chinese dynasty bonus but which happens automatically.

@@duchessskye4072 yes I'm aware, I think the aoe4 time period is 500_1650 If I'm not mistaking, that would mean the end of sassanids empire and the rise of safavids empire which were persian and considering the dynasties which controlled Persia after the Arabs were culturally Persian I think it's possible to add a Persian civ if the devs really wanted like the Persian in aoe2

@@MOHAMMADRAHIM-i2j AoE 4 has a more grounded approach to civ design than AoE 2 did, and the AoE 2 persian civilization was notoriously unhistorical even for AoE 2. Regardless my main point is that the Abbasids are already in the game. They're the main players in Persia between 750 to about 1000 until the Ghaznavids and Seljuks become more prominent - adding a separate Persian civilization based before the Seljuks would not work for that reason because they're already there. A persian civ in-game would need to be set later for that reason. Which is why I think that if it is added it needs to be based on the turco-mongol-persian powers and various cultural influences/developments they brought.

I think it would be cool to double down on the tunneling network. Make it function identically to the GLA in Generals, where the tunnel (or Hideouts in this case) simply just share whatever units are garrisoned inside. That means whichever units you place in one of the hideouts, will be available to ungarrison in any other hideout. It allows for global army teleportation, but just as in Generals, the hideout should have a garrison of 10, or maybe 5 for starter, increasing it for a cost at castle age. Units do not shoot out of hideouts, so perhaps it's best to separate the building from the outpost. Then add an Imperial landmark that allows for a sneak attack ability. This ability will deploy a hideout anywhere on the map, allowing you to ungarrison your army inside the enemy base. This all sounds quite powerful on paper, but just like the GLA in Generals, the Vietnamese should be balanced out like the Malians, with generally weaker units that lose in a straight fight against armored opponents. It's also important to remember the garrsion limit has an impact on gameplay. You simply can't ungarrison an army of 100 or more units at a time, but 10 at a time, allowing the enemy to respond to the attack.

special economic units such as elephant worker can be treated as imperial officers, non villagers or military, easy.
