Congratulations man, you deserve it! I fell so inspired from you as I'm doing CS50 as well, but the course is really tough and I have a full time job here in Brazil, so I kind lack of time and energy, but I'll not give up. I'm at week 7 right now, can't wait to change my career too. Let's keep going, hope some day I can tell my story here too! 😀
@@alexanderlopez7659 Finishing homepage problem set from week 8. I decided to take other courses on Udemy about web development to get conversant with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and DOM syntax. But now, CS50 2023 had a BIG upgrade with new sections between lesson and assessments, so you can improve your skills and learn more before taking the problems. Let’s keep going!
Oh my gosh it was such a relief to hear how long you took on some coursework material as I do too and I feel so stupid for taking so long. Everyone is saying it is hard yet they excel at it, so when I see an example that is closer to my experience it makes me feel so much more optimistic about being able to finish and understand better. Thanks for sharing
Your career change journey is truly motivating, and it gives me the feeling that I can achieve something significant. I am grateful for your candid sharing of your experiences.
I think you are a brilliant guy. And your persistence reminds me of what Einstein felt when he was told he would never amount to anything. You just turn that anger and make it your calling to do great things. Your path is inspirational. Thanks.
Recently started watching your videos and honestly? Love your content. I've been dabbling with different courses on and off, done some Python, JS, HTML, CSS here and there and floated around. ButThanks to you, I'm doing the CS50 Python, which is a great refresher on Python Fundamentals and the teaching style is AMAZING! I too find so many of most challenges pretty tricky, especially the Harvard ones! But now after seeing this video, once I have completed this course, I'll 100% go onto the CS50x course for sure! Thanks for the inspiration bud, great to see your success, keep it up! =D
That last part hit hard. I've never had an interview where I wasn't offered there job. Not to tout my own horn but this is because i project a certain comfort level when speaking with people. I'm a breath of fresh air. I know this now because its me doing the hiring and i see the exact same thing. You can generally tell who is a decent human being and even if they lack skills vs another candidate you will automatically justify hitting them over the more qualified person who just seems a bit off.
Hello! I appreciate your videos and your personality so much. I have watched several of your videos now because I want to transition to IT from a different career, so you’ve inspired me to look at CS50. There are only 10 weeks left of 2023 so I will wait January 1st 2024 to enroll in the class because I think, just like you, it will take me twenty weeks to finish it. No shame there ;) I want to do CS50P and CS50X after watching your videos and reading from other people, too. Best of luck to all of us 😊
Thanks for sharing your experience, it was inspiring for me, i've watched 3 of your videos in a row and now i have some hope to continue to learn coding by myself, really appreciate it man, i'm really grateful, so tks a lot, wish the best for you :)
Thanks for sharing this. I'm currently watching the Harvard CS50 on freeCodeCamp's YT channel. The professor is so upbeat I realized how lucky Harvard students are irl. I wish to finish this course as well and see what will happen next.
Wow this one is just perfect after the lecture, I was a bit sceptical in my ability for the lab1 b of the first lab but 30 min into this one and I really start to understand the syntax and how to use a bit of the huge ammount of theory which I took time to digest in a few days. Amazing that I can follow this in Canada at home
Great analysis on what companies are looking for. Although limited in the number of jobs since graduating from high school over 40 years ago. I always asked my hiring manager why I was selected for the position, because HR will typically send them technically qualified candidates. Most recently the reason given was that it was my people skills and customer management capabilities that got me the job, not my technical skills.
So awesome and inspiring! Currently doing CS50 and yes I agree with you it's a challenging course but it's a great foundation. True, soft skills are so important😀
Congratulation and good luck with your new job. You only completed cs50 then you're now already in a tier 3 position. That's pretty good. CS50 is indeed powerful and handy.
finally ! I'm working in the final project of CS50 now. and I'm 90% in the foundation course of the Odin Project. I used to be an ESL teacher and I got a lot of rejection from companies because of my beard. I would ace the interview with the teacher trainer but HR people are always the problem. congratulations on your success. hopefully we'll follow soon
Wow, this is good to hear! For me personally especially the honesty at the beginning. Now, I feel like it's not all that bad that I need double the time as well haha. For scratch the homework eventually took me a week, because I also have a job and basically, I was enjoying making the game so much at some point that I just kept adding to it. I'm in week 1 now and at the point of making the homework assignments. I had to watch the lectures up till now 2 or 3 times. and pause a lot to take notes.. Oh boy I opened up the first llama population assignment today and I was like: 👀??? Then I found the "section"- class and now I'm well on my way. I hope: lol! Thank you so much for being open and honest, you've really helped me to not feel bad about my slow pace. I mean I was expelled from school before I was 16 y/o and I have not had much of an education. But always regretted it. It's such a blessing we have the internet now a days where you can pretty much learn anything. Be well!
@@kombina_official Thank you sir, finished lab1, which was a heck of a struggle because arithmetic/ math was always the weakest subject for me. I mean the main thing i learned during math-class in school was how to stealthily hide behind the person in front of me.. so sometimes I wonder "what the heck am I doing?!!' while following the course. But I am actually hoping to create some neuro-pathways that will make my thinking more linear as I am by nature very 'Fuzzy'.. the 'Hello' is done too so now it's time to get to the Mario and Cash or Credit (or both) assignments. Wish me luck. Thank you very much for your reply!
Im still in university with language major but it's not suitable for me so Now i start to learn about Python but im kinda stuck because my English is not good and i cant buy a Python's course due to financial problem. But now RU-vid recommends your video and it's so motivated and helpful for me. I really appreciate your videos and i'll try my best to study❤
hey, I don't think you should need to spend money on this free course. This channel has a video on how to get a free certificate. Hope you find it useful.
your experience remind me a similar thing that happened me, around December 2022, I received an offer to apply to a senior position of embedded software development, at that time I was studying for CLE c programing entry level certification, and I'm also a graduated industrial robotic engineer, but the thing was I had only worked as an trainee in embedded systems and I got an offer for a senior position, las week I emailed back because I already got certified in C programing, and now I'm currently taking CS50, but it is funny to me get a senior position when I'm not even a Jr programer, but it feels great, I don't think I get the job but is a good story to tell greeting from Mexico, your experience encourage me to take CS50 and get all the way up to final week
Hey kombina I saw your video how to make resume and I just put my cs50 web programming course and c.i.t course on education section of my resume and I got lot of offer from the companies after that so thank you very much
@@kombina_official So basically Im from pakistan Karachi and in karachi there high demand of WordPress developer but im not WordPress developer I just gave a interview for the MERN stack developer and I hope I will get hired in this month and again Thanks for helping me. May allah(Yahweh) will give you the higher rank in this field.
Hey Kombina, I just wanna say thank you. Your content is the most honest content, you let your viewers and audience to know your process after getting harvard to applying jobs and facing tons of failure which in my pov is reality that we need to see. I am currently also undertaking CS50 as my course and would love to connect with you and chat more about it if you'd like to connect. Kudos' to you. You are one of the best content creator.
4:00 The way the industry is now, I generally don't listen to people tell me I cannot get a job based of a specific credential(s). Every employer is not the same; mainly now you just have to know how to market/sell yoursef. I hear too many stories where "unqualified" candidates get the job offers due to mastering social intelligence and/or business acumen and/or executive presence etc resulting in a cultural, environmental, professional, personal developmental fit among other things. Like you referenced in 7:35 - . 5:55 Saying something is really simple can be subjective, especially, if you're already familiar with it but I get from at least a software pro standpoint what you're saying. I find it rather interesting when I hear individuals finish a project, bootcamp, some form of education...without interacting with recruiters that the recruiters reach out to potential candidates. Is it A.I. cookies activating? Or Facebook prying into your personal info unbeknownst to us. What's with that? 🤨
I really like how you made yourself as "not just technical", but communication skilled, reliable, healthy (non-healthy), trust-worthy, open to criticism, and a decent human being when I get rejected for my lack of experience, and other bulllshit reasons. Welcome to life I guess. Anyways, you gave me a good thing to pounder upon. thank you and have a beautiful day.
Thanks for this video, I was wondering about this as I am about to embark on the coding journey. From the job offer email that you showed, it appears the company is based in the US while you are based in Israel -- I'm wondering, based on your experience with applying, do you think working across borders like this is not a problem in the industry? I ask because I am also based internationally.
Hello Hey looking for some info, Im in my mid 50's and looking to change my career. I would like to get into programming. Would this be a good course to take to see if this would be a good fit for me? is there a set time you have to complete the cs50p course? thanks for posting this vid
Big congratulations man! Thanks for sharing, which websites did you use to apply the most? And are you a US citizen? You don't have to answer if you don't want to, it would be useful to me to know. I wish you the best of luck!
Hey the best place to look for job is local job boards. (For example: www.builtinaustin.com/jobs) NOT Linkedin. Look for smaller job boards near you - and connect with your local companies
@Kombina So 11 months later, how's the job coming along? I assume you are not coding, at Level 3. I love to code, did it for 39 years, would have done it forever but didn't stay current, now trying to do that. As to managing, I did that too, I have a BBA in Mgmt. Arghh, coders are such prima donnas, super smart but most are very immature. For others, the CS50 Harvard courses are very well done; the software that checks the Project Set programs you write is good and bad.
I get what youre saying about companies requiring you to follow their workflow. Youre wrong assuming that wouldnt teach you anything. It definately will teach you to follow a certain production pipeline, deadlines and whatnot. Also as your first assignment, everything will be a lesson. Good video though and godspeed on your journey :-)
I think that it is mainstream of IT industry that now even on very senior trchnicl position they hire people with VERY little technikal skills. As a result that group produce a shit monster instead of application. Time of creation that application increases 20 times from normal for team with good trchnical Lead. They hire you because technikal skills means very little in order to get developer or team lead position.
this is the most positive person i have ever come across on the internet. i dont really give good compliment but i guess he passed my compliment test. :-D
Watch his previous videos to understand more. He got the technical skills from cs50, which made him pass the interview. And he put stuffs like "I know C, python, js, flask (and other stuffs that cs50 teaches)" in his resume instead of "I took cs50"
No offense to him, but that kind of skillset doesn't get you a tier 3 job without connections. There were either different qualifications he was hired for or he's lying or the job is the type of project manager that you would move the guy that still sucks at coding so he can just make sure everyone is finishing what was requested from the hire ups.
@kombina_official. I noticed you said with Senior Developer jobs, they require more of the technical side (obviously), but that the other jobs in the tech field just want a general whole package deal. What "other jobs" did you apply for? I am on my own learning path and one of things I have always wondered is, what are some of these positions even called? What would I search for/how would I word my searches when actually looking for these positions like the ones you interviewed for and the one you got hired at? I am not super verse with all of the terminology used in this field. Subbed! Thanks!
