But here's the kicker - just as I'm getting into the groove of my Newcastle musings, a security guard decides it's time for me to make my exit. That's right, I got kicked out! 🚨🚶‍♂️

Wandering Turnip just focused on the empty shops like he does for most of his videos - didn't seem to appreciate the busy shopping streets of Newcastle, and thriving places like Fenwicks, John Lewis and the huge M&S. Still, Eldon Garden is bizarre - hope that at some point they can find something useful to do with it!

I have to admit that it's a good tactic as negativity does well for clicks, but Newcastle is doing really good compared with almost every city in England (save for London) so I can't honestly focus on the 2 little dead areas like other RU-vidrs would. I did enjoy Turnip's video though, and I'm glad I got to experience that little area ha. Cheers for the comment by the way, hope you enjoyed my video 😊

I remember Handyside Arcade back in the seventies where I used to buy Viz, when it was in its infancy, from the Kard Bar (wonderful shop). A lot of that area was bulldozed to make way for Eldon Garden. It always seemed destined to fail, in my opinion. Full of high-end shops which most Newcastle shoppers turned their noses up at. I used to go to a decent coffee shop there because it was always easy to get a seat and chill for a while. Gradually, I watched Eldon Garden's shops becoming empty and, in most cases, never opening up as new businesses. On my last walk around the place last year, I counted only two shops open. Even when it was full of open businesses, you never saw the crowds with most shoppers sticking to Eldon Square. It was almost like they didn't know Eldon Garden existed. As usual, enjoyed the video! 🙂

Many thanks for the comment Ian mate, Yeah, it's almost like human nature dictates that some areas aren't worth exploring or visiting, like those weird shortcuts on the grass next to a path 😂 Strangely enough though, this area of Eldon square/gardens is really interestingly laid out, same as the Arcade, right in the centre, yet eerily empty. Thanks for the little bit of history too man, I never knew about that. All the very best to you, glad you enjoyed my video 😁
