I learned this the hard way once I got pregnant. I didn’t want a ton of maternity pieces, I realized I needed items I could mix & match from casual to dressy that fit me and made me feel beautiful. I’ve been drawn to continue this as a mom and my own children. It makes getting dress, packing for trips and laundry a thousand times easier.

Just yesterday I pulled 5 tubs of seasonal clothes from the utility room, created 10 warm weather outfits and 10 cold weather outfits. Drove directly to the Salvation Army and dropped a big box of shoes and 6 big bags of clothing and accessories. I have one bag of items to sell. It's a feeling of lightness, organization, and relief.

Great video Madison! It is so surprising, the more clothes I let go, the better my wardrobe feels. I am slowly getting the sense of my personal style for my current season of life. Going on a much delayed Europe trip next month, and for the first time ever I will be able to pack into just carry on for 16 days. Such a satisfying feeling of contentment

This is the first video of yours I have stumbled across and my goodness am I grateful for seeing it! You have inspired me to change my ways and also made me realise that there is another way. I am currently on my way home from a holiday, and it is actually weighing on my mind the fact that I know I am about to get home to a cluttered closet… not just one closet, but two closets in two seperate rooms filled with clothes I don’t wear or need. The stress and burden of this is really getting to me. I have lived out of a van for the past two weeks and found that I didn’t even wear all of the clothes I brought with me! Why on earth do I think I need such excess of clothes at home?! It’s actually quite ridiculous. Not to mention painful to think of all the wasted money! All I can say is thank you so much for this video! It feels like a friendly nudge to say ‘hey, you can do this!’ I have officially set myself the challenge of minimising my wardrobe once I get home. Thank you ❤️🙏

For the past couple of years I've only been able to wear what I can fit into one tote. I liked that it took no thought to make an outfit but wow I got so bored with the few options I did have. So while this minimalist wardrobe seems fun and refreshing, it gets boring fast. Loved the video though!!

Omg! You described in the beginning exactly what is going with me right now. One more piece and then my wardrobe will be perfect,one more piece and I will stop for a couple of month etc. even thought I don’t own a big closet because when I am buying something then I am selling smith too. But anyway my budget suffers from constant shopping even if it is one price per month ,it costs a lot because I buy quality expensive things. But I want to start saving also . I also found it so exciting to wait for a package to arrive. I know that I just have to substitute it with something else which gives me pleasure. I am working hard on it .

You have inspired me to finally 'start' 🥰 I have 3 closets full, ugh. I'm so tired of looking at a jumbled mess, even though they are organized (ha) in seasonal wear. My problem is, as you said "how do I start"? Also, I'm sentimental to so many and I know I can't strive for minamilism. Yet, to get rid of the items I haven't worn in yrs. I usually stick to classics yet it's too much now! I'm going to watch when you started to get me 'emotionally' ready...gosh, how silly is that? Thank You for giving me to final push 🤗💫

I really enjoy using up things and wearing em out. It makes me feel like it was money well spent. When I get holes in my clothes, that's my signal that I've done a good job of wearing them to the end of their life (some could say to repair the item, but how long I've wore my clothes, im typically ready for something new by then). Same for my kids. We don't have clothes with tags on them at the end of the season that didn't get wore. And I feel really good about that. I used to have closets full and baskets full and piles on the floor.

Having had various long illnesses in the last 2 years, influenza 3 times and norovirus twice, I know that I need at least 3 weeks of clean clothing on hand to see me through. I suppose when you're young and your immune system is top notch, it isn't such a problem, but things change. I need at least 21 t-shirts, and at least 6 or 7 comfy bottoms. (When I'm home sick in bed for 3 weeks at a time, it'll be knit shorts or knit pants, mostly.) Plus an adequate amount of underwear. Did I mention how much fun a noro virus is? Under normal conditions, I wear these clothes as both daytime clothes and sleepwear, so they aren't going to waste. I found several retailers that offer lines of cotton knit pants and shorts for warm-weather daywear, and they're comfortable enough for sleeping in, so that's what I do.

@MadisunGray
@MadisunGray 2 года назад
Yes and no. They do wear out quicker you could say, but it’s because I actually wear my items. But I think I get way more use out my clothes. And for me, all the postives of a small wardrobe far outweigh the potential negative of re-buying a item. I’ve also found that when I buy higher quality, it lasts me longer. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! ❤️

I am not a shopper. And I am not all that attached to my clothes or picky. I like comfortable but not sloppy looking. My only problem with the idea of "a small wardrobe" is that I would spend too much time doing laundry and wondering if I have anything clean to wear. Not sure what "enough" clothes is - but I know there is a point where I'd rather have too many than be wasting water and time.

I could only take a fraction of my clothes in my suitcase which worried me at the time, but i was shocked to realise that having less clothes was freeing! It reduced my stress (and weight of my suitcase) and i began to actually live my life more rather than worrying about what to wear or how to look perfect for photos or other people. And I think that it speaks it volumes because again I think most of us love your content but more than anything we’re here because of the message you share about the importance of living in the now and being more present that at least in my experience watching your videos is about that reminder and I take it in and while I’m watching not only do I feel more peaceful in that moment but it always brings me back into the now. I am trying to build this mentality that it's ok to have a few great pieces of clothes and wear the same thing a few times a week. I use to be bullied as a child for wearing the same pants (not every day) and that stuck with me till now (I'm 28). Society assumes that if you wear the same thing every day, you are poor. Eventually I went to live with my dad and stepmom and they went to church every weekend. I only had one dress. The kids at church called me the girl in the green dress. Great video! I must say, I notice if a clothing item is worn in several videos, because I am obviously into the topic. But as you said, I don‘t care in a negative sense. Actually it‘s the opposite: RU-vidrs who claim to be (wardrobe) minimalists and promote capsule wardrobes, but then are rarely seen with recurring clothes in their videos … I always think that someting is weird about that.

I had a house fire and lost every single item of clothing except what I had on my body. Including my weesing dress and concert shirts, it was a hard loss for me. When I moved 2.5 yrs ago I got rid of 4 xl trash bags full of clothes.. I had so many even after that. After my recent fire, I've never felt more relief 😌 I plan on using this method. Thank you so much and good luck to anyone else going through it.

I’ve been decluttering for a week now and already notice a huge difference in my routine. I can’t wait to get rid of more. I’m significantly less stressed about my house already and starting to do more fun stuff bc I have more time for myself 🥰

Im constantly working on this...my problem is I sell and thrift clothes for extra $ ..so its a tough situation for me when I'm continually finding new items for myself that I just can't sell yet...thats probably the hardest part is letting go..kudos to you ,for making it happen.

When you find what you really like to wear and let go your fantasy wardrobe is so easy to skip stuff in the store or online because you know you’ll never wear it…I don’t have a 10 item wardrobe but I only have in my closet things that I always wear, when you realize that you have the right to feel comfortable in you clothes (size and style) everything changes and who cares what other people think you should wear….I only wear dresses because that’s what I like and makes me feel good.

Agree, once you find what you really like to wear that's when the want for shopping for more slows down but it's a journey to get there and purchase mistakes lessons learned

Slowly but surely I'm getting there. I just decluttered 4 trash bags full of clothes which are mostly designer. They will be donated to women in need in Honduras. I still need 2-3 more rounds.

Great video. Appreciate your honesty and video. For me, I am a VERY casual person who can luckily dress casually at work. I've gained so much weight over the last years that it is difficult to find clothes that fit comfortably and look halfway decent. I would much prefer to spend money on good quality that will fit well and last a long time. Sadly, I have no clue even where to start, where to shop and purchase clothing from, good quality brands, etc. I'm also much older than you. LOL.

Clothes have always caused me some anxiety. And I have learned that having options for all the situations life throws my way reduces that. So I have a wardrobe that can pretty much go anywhere and be properly dressed without much fuss. It is more than 10 pieces but all are classics.

I definitely need to reduce my number of clothing but I am finally to a point where I can say no to purchasing anything new. However with that being said that woven bag looks so multifaceted and useful. Do you remember where you got it?

My closet it pretty minimal but now with pregnancy items are no longer fitting... so I'm on edge should I just get rid of what doesn't fit even though pregnancy is a season... or should I keep the clothes and revisit the clothing after pregnancy 😅 this is my 4th child and I got rid of all my clothes before getting pregnant again go figure. Lol

I hadn’t noticed your same outfit but did notice you’re wearing that cute shirt I like :) I’m finally down to about 11/12 items, total! A big thank you to both you and Fernanda’s 5,4,3,2,1, method. Opening the closet door feels both liberating and a bit scary. It’s also given me a solid hard look at the choices I’ve made. I like how you addressed over buying lower quality items, fun thrifting and Target clothes, because that’s been my weakness as a budget shopper. Now, I have the reality of replacing many core pieces due to poor quality. It’s eye opening.

Love your video's Madi! I so agree with you.I have a few summer outfits (everything cotton and linen) that I continue to wear through the whole year with just a cardigan or jacket added for winter. Love that I've found what works for me. I wear them until they're worn out, lol. We're all so much more than the clothes we wear. Such freedom :)

on the comment about you wearing the same shirt in other videos- i didnt even notice!!! i have seen that specific piece before on you obviously, but someone can only realize that if theyre intentionally *looking* for it… which who has the extra brain capacity to count how many times someone wears the same article of clothing. approximately nobody 🤪

I decluttered all the clothes we have. Mine, the kids…We gave away 5 big bags of unneeded clothes. Every child now only have two Ikea kallax boxes left with their clothes. I minimized to 5 items of every cloth (5 T-Shirts, 5 hoodies, 5 trousers, 5 dresses, 5 jackets).

I would love love love if you'd make a video on your fluid rhythm. Sticking to a routine makes me feel bound down. But there are still things in life we need to try to be on top of... working out, cooking, nutrition, home school (even though we are super simply home schooling, it's still something we need to be on top of to a degree!), trying to get LOTS of nature time, but valuing keeping a clean home. It's exhausting to try and figure out! I would highly value your input on rhythm!
