I GOT SCAMMED BY UBER IN AZERBAIJAN!?!?!? (First Impressions Of Baku) 

Baku airport is a mess when you leave the terminal. Use BOLT (formerly known as Taxify) in Baku. Uber is too unreliable coming from the airport. Once in the city, you'll be fine with Uber or Bolt.

I went to Azerbaijan 2 years ago but most meqaning 99 % of the uber were honest but the first uber in the airport i paid 20 dollars, i was okay because I was tired I needed to get to the air bnb.. But never the less I enjoyed this trip better than many other countries, is a beautiful country and a lot to see. these muslim country the women dress like the Americans so no fear and the people are very nice

I can relate so well to what you went through, having traveled in that region myself. I am glad you stuck to your principles. Many travelers do not, saying that it is too much trouble. They may even say that it is unimportant or that they are giving charity...no, they are really building up expectations that the next passenger should pay as much or more. I stay away from such travelers unless they agree to pay all expenses (sometimes a good arrangement for them since I probably speak the local language).

Hate to break it to you, but the fact is Uber drivers don't want to pay Uber 25% of what they earn because they think it's unfair. But like many people in many jobs, they are stuck doing it because they have no better options in life. And normal drivers in poor countries HATE Uber and other local apps that do the same thing. Sometimes even fight them to stop them from picking people in some places. Because they take all the business by undercutting the prices all the local drivers agree to charge.

I think you're pretty awesome and an amazing young man thank you for all the great content it's wonderful to hear from you and your life experiences because as we all know the news you can't trust them not even with the weather keep that light shining bright🙂

Consider choosing a hotel that offers a shuttle service for Safety

Let me give you some perspective here, Entry to Airport cost about 2 manat on average, petrol to City cost 4 manat on average.. add car maintenance, oil, filters etc. +1 manat for every ride ... so what they left is 3 manats.. deduct Uber charge and they left with 1,5 Manat.. for 1 hour drive.. they make 1.5 manat that less than 1$.. You might think that it is good since prices here are cheap.. Wrong. Just as an example, a cup of coffee here costs 3$-4$ like in any other average EU/US city. I'm from Azerbaijan myself and I always add 5-6 extra manats to taxi drivers when I'm here when I go to airport. This is mistake of the Airport authority, they should put a fixed price of 20-25$ which is still not expensive at all according to any other major capital and there will be no complaints.

Apparently they use app to get a passenger on board because the competition at the airport is fierce. The guy is taking you from airport to the city at night, i understand that you need to upkeep your principles regarding the cost of the trip, but you could have just said to the guy, "you know what , i pay only through uber, but i will give you $5 tip on top" Maybe he would have agreed. But reporting the guy to uber, who took the time to come back to return your pillow, i think is not right.

I went to visit last Summer with my girl, I noticed multiple times their men looking at my girl in such a lost, that I comforted some and I ended up fighting with two of them that were annoying my girl. I didn’t know they have such an hilarious culture in that term I wouldn’t have travelled there!!!!

i not recommend used taxi from airports in all post soviet countries most of drivers is a scammers, used public transportation when u in city than only can used taxi uber ... actually they have shuttle to city in Baku they comfortable

Bruh common almost everywhere in the world you need to find uber drivers in airport.

In terms of how long it takes to get from the airport in Baku into the centre 30 manats is nothing.

Your mistake: When you order a cab to the airport, the cab driver takes a ticket and has to return it which costs money Uber doesn't cover. Blaming the cab driver for this is just selfish. Why don't you blame your own corporate UBER? 1st cab's driver mistake: Ticket to the airport for 1 hour is 1 AZN, not 30. He was lying to you. Not appreciated. As you understand I am from Azerbaijan. Hope you had good trip in Baku!

Maybe thats how they scam, they dont appear and they charge you for cancelling the driver. UBER is the one scaming with this guys.

I am deeply sorry for your sad experience in Baku airport. To be honest fair cost of drive from airport to city center is about 20azn=12usd. For 25km it's fair price. Before app taxi companies price was 20-25azn. But now sometime app shows 7azn, which is really too low and most of local people give few azn cash tips to taxi drivers. That is why they request gate money from passengers which is illegal but they should not beg money from tourists. Generally our people are very kind and hospitality is in high priority. I hope your enjoyed our city and wish you all the best. If you plan to visit Baku again write to me, I will drive you from airport to city center for free ;)
