In this video, I share how I was scammed out of thousands of pounds - and trust me, this is NOT clickbait. It happened so easily, and I want to show you just how sophisticated and convincing scammers can be. These criminals use social engineering tactics that trick you into believing you're dealing with trusted companies or even your own bank. In my case, they knew just what to say, and before I realized it, I had fallen for their trap.
But that’s not the craziest part - wait until you hear how my bank responded. I’ll walk you through everything, from the red flags I missed to the shocking outcome when I turned to my bank for help. If you've ever thought, "It’ll never happen to me," trust me, it can - and it’s way easier than you think.
I'll also share some critical tips on what to do if you’ve been scammed, including how to report fraud, where to get support, and the steps you can take to try and recover your money. Don't wait for it to happen to you - learn how to protect yourself now.

If you do answer a phone call like this, my advice is to say I'll call my bank back. As a rule, i don't answer any calls I'm not expecting that's what voicemail is for

I was scammed by a street con man - well two men actually - one of which was posing as a Policeman, on my birthday in Seville in 2000. I didn't realise what had happened until I came to pay for a meal in a restaurant several hours later, at which point I insisted my wife and I returned to the scene of the crime to see if the b**stards were still there so I could confront them. My wife was horrified, convinced I was going to get myself seriously hurt - or worse. When we got there - they were long gone. To this day, I'm angry with myself that I/we got duped, but I've told the story (too complex to go into the details here) numerous times, and I do have a grudging respect for the con men who were just so credible and had their scam down to a fine art. I don't even begrudge the money (only about £100), but the injured pride lives with me to this day. Anyway BYB - you're not alone - thanks for sharing.

I don't understand how this scam even works and benefits the scammer. He ordered an Iphone with the stolen money. He obviously ordered it to an adress to pick it up. Couldn't the police just collect the scammer when picking up the phone?

That is terrible, the scammers are getting better and better all the time, i wish though that you had added advice on how not to fall for these unsolicited calls, emails texts by simply never believing any of them and contacting the bank using details obtained from their own website, and never from links within a message or email. A real bank would never be offended by you refusing thier unsolicited calls or emails/ texts etc, guys.. hang up, call them back yourself! Thanks for sharing byb

I am hard on them too, I did raise with my bank how this was so easy with spoofing and the payment approval process and how it wasn't flagged.

My only advice to these things is to never trust anyone that calls you. Especially from a bank or a phone provider. If you think what yhey initially tell you is true, hang up and call an original number for your bank or provider etc. If its a real issue, those that answer your call will know all about it as well.

I got home from work one day to catch my wife on the phone with Jon Bon Jovi! She had become "friends" with his daughter, she contacted my wife after seeing her facebook profile. So yea the "real" Bon Jovi.... the honest to god actual Jon Bon Jovi had phoned my wife so she could help with his charity by buying vouchers, obviously he wanted to know how much she could afford, she said she was long term ill and has no income and could give him £20, but good ol' Bon Jovi thought she could give at least £100, for a good cause and all that lol. Anyway, my sarcasm at her adamant demeanour telling me she was on the phone to Bon Jovi was in the nick of time to end any such endeavours.... I questioned my wife on how she could be so gullible and she did say.... and i quote.... "I was a bit suspicious.... he had an Indian accent" sigh

My first thought was it will coins-related scam. Some bullion dealer sold you some fake gold coins or something. Actually, I was almost scammed very similar way but through O2 . They had my latest bills details and seemed like they knew enough about me to look trustworthy. Can’t even remember what has stopped me that day but I was really close getting scammed. As much as many arnt a fan of the enhanced checks banks can do on some transactions, it’s important as to avoid more people falling victim to these horrible acts. Thanks for sharing this and making people aware. I also always make sure I don't keep much funds in my current account - so if the scummy scammers managed to get access - they won't get much (can be a pain keeping an eye on the balance to avoid going overdrawn though)

Interesting story and glad it worked out in the end. I got scammed by a supermarket cash machine once. Went to withdraw £200. It whirred, counting the notes. When the drawer opened it was empty. Took me 3 months and probably about 5 hours of phone calls to get that money back.

Got scammed 2 years ago for 200$ and it sucked because you cant do anything. But in the end I was only feeling bad for a week and then thought well it happened and life goes on. You just learn from your mistakes, sadly most of the times in the hard way.😂

If you ever do have this happen the best advice I have is to hang up and then call your bank though their registered number on google. If there really is an issue they will be able to tell you when you call them.

When you say the iPhone was already dispatched. Do you mean the scammed picked it up in person from the store or that the store mailed it out already. Couldn't they get the address of where the phone was mailed to?

I have cancvelled so many companies who ring me up without permission and then ask me for security ... I know who i am i expect security if i ring them not if they ring me ( out of the blue). Technically answering those security questions is against the banks terms and conditions as you have given security details away ro an unorthorisesed person as there as thee os no way to tell if it is the bank or not . If in doubt any doubt at all hand up and ring them up, never accept a incoming call

Nothing to be ashamed of this can happen to anyone. They know how to push different people's buttons. Shame on these people I mean there's ways to scam people in person, on the phone or online. It's just that most people wouldn't do that because we're not terrible people, I mean this can cost people their livelyhood or make it so they can't feed their kids. 💯 to you backyard bullion. Much respect ! to you and this crime that has happened to you . I truly feel badly that this has happen to you or anyone else. We are all vulnerable ! And a lot of people fall victim to the scum of that caliber and many will still get taken as well . Hopefully not, but as our safety measures get stronger, it seems that their scams get better and better . That is why I pray cash staus around forevermore and stacking metals helps store thay value.
