I disagree. The reason Parrying in SF3 is so iconic and satisfying is because it's high risk - high reward. You're pushing into an attack, so it's the antithesis of blocking. If you mess up then you're going to eat a full move. Genius. Whereas Just Defend has none of that. If you mess up then you'll just block. And because you're tapping forward for a Parry, it's offensive and gives the feeling that you're covering ground, whereas tapping back for Just Defend feels like you're just blocking at the right time. Show me any Garou video where the Just Defend is as intense as the Daigo parry.

@@markg5480 Challenge accepted. First though, I need to remind you and anyone else who might share your opinion that I did say " *slightly* " more natural than parrying". This is because from the very beginning of 2D Fighting Games holding back (or down-back) would protect you from nearly all non-throw/command grab attacks. Eventually SNK, CAPCOM, and others would institute things like "Guard Crush" and "Guard Break" style mechanics to discourage "Turteling". That said, the Just Defense system is extremely intense because you're right: One wrong move and you eat a lot of damage. Getting it right, however rewards you with most of the time a substantial life gauge increase (although CAPCOM VS SNK 2's "K" Groove gave you back *WAY* less life than Samurai Shodown & Garou: Mark of the Wolves ever did. Still, when the match is close and the last few seconds on the clock are approaching, any life boost could win you the round. It certainly has in my case) and sometimes place you back into your T.O.P Gauge which increased the damage output of all of your moves by up to 40% and allowed you access to your T.O.P. Attack move, which was a high risk, high damage/reward move you simply didn't have access to outside of your T.O.P. Gauge. Anyway, check out "Garou: Mark of the Wolves - Gato VS Rock Howard" here on RU-vid. The gentleman's channel you're looking for is a guy named "Warg, the 1st". Here, you'll see a match between 2 very skilled players really getting after it. And while nothing is AS crazy as the very first Daigo parry, Just Defense requires a lot of skill and practice to do consistently. It also offers a much higher pay off than the Parry System. Especially in close matches that go down to the wire on the clock. I do respect people who are good all the way to great at using the Parry System. It's a WAY higher risk method to build Super Meter than Just Defense. I just wish CAPCOM players could get Life Meter back *AS* *WELL* *AS* Super Meter build up the way SNK players have become accustomed to.

@@MrDraquo just défend is harder because SNK characters have much faster and varied mobility than sfiii, going back to real bout fatal fury, including short hop. A fight can be over in seconds.

@@petr79 Agreed. The part that makes Just Defense more intuitive (in my opinion) is the fact that you are already used to holding back (or down/back) to block instinctively. This puts your mind on "Red Alert" when you begin to practice the technique until it becomes close to second nature. But yeah, you're right. One wrong move and you get blasted right out of your socks. A.S.A.P. 😆👍!!!

@@benharper962 I see some resemblances but could you explain it because everytime I think in KOF the 3vs3 system and the Leader Ultra move comes to my mind but this game doesn't have that.

@@Slayerthecrow it is like 1v1 kof in the pacing. Faster, with run/dash cancels, hops, faster frame data. It’s more about reaction times and pattern recognition instead of hard reads like in street fighter. In garou the overheads and mixups are generally all reactable. It’s not quite like KOF cuz there’s no super jumps (a few characters have a super jump) or super hops so it’s a little more grounded than KOF but not as much as SF. At high lvl the game is a lot about fishing for a stray poke into 40-70+% combos. defensive options and offensive options are stronger in garou, as well as having an extremely long buffering window compared to other fighters, meaning you don’t play it as conservatively as street fighter. You buffer constantly option selects while taking advantage of just defend option selects, buffering 0F reversal supers, and abusing the feint system to apply guard breaking pressure while also taking advantage of the strong movement options and invincible backdash. SNK games are typically less conservative than your average street fighter game and you spam and abuse mechanics more because the system lets you (an example is just defend is done by hitting block instead of forward). It lets you play both more lame and turtly more spammy and rushdowny than 3S. Damage is very high. Sure most mixups are reactable, but if you eat a stray 3 frame poke you can lose more than half your health.

You have to tap back every hit, just like parries in 3s but the opposite direction

You have to tap, but it’s not like 3S where you need precise timing. You can just mash back and it’ll work for multihits

@graham you also forgot to mention 1.25x damage boost. On the console you can make the top more than 1.25x but your bar is shorter

Every character has one move that can be canceled during their start in similar fashion to focus cancels, except no dash is needed, just press Lp+Lk.

White griffith AKA blue jagged is the best usa played but not a match for spelunker (Japanese player and likely worlds best player). If Justin played spelunker he would literally go 0-1000 versus him lol. If Justin went against white Griffith just might win 20 games out of a thousand

@@Kain_R_Heinlein the way you try to bring spelunker down for being an online player is idiotic. I’ve seen some of the high level players you mention play online and it’s similar level to spelunker. Best also doesn’t mean unbeatable. I’ve beaten spelunker. Doesn’t mean I’m better

@@benharper962 it's idiotic to claim him as the best player when I have seen people dominate him also anyone with braincells can tell you how vastly different online playing is compared to live. Trust me, some of the players I have mentioned have played this online including Oyatsu/Atsu, Charles Wain/rhenium in the old days of GGPO. Spelunker might have some of the best execution out there. But he breaks under pressure and thru people that know how to check buttons and opponents. He plays at a similar level yes, but you lack the discernment on what makes them different to him on an adaptive environment. Wata and JR are probably the GOATS on this game. They are the best with several characters including the top tiers Jenet and Kevin respectively. Like those little nuances are something you pick up when dissecting your opponent.
