I bought my Cupra R back in 2006 and had it for 4 years... Nothing has lived up to it since!! Loved it being such a sleeper and surprising a lot of peeps
I love the Leons . The turbo sounds great on this considering the age . The lag is prolly from the older engine with a longer exhaust manifold thats less efficient
having bought this car in the video i can tell you along with exhaust intake and pipework mods been through the mountain or paper work and reciepts found it it has a revo stage 1 map so around 255-265 bhp region according to there website drives really well for a car with soo many miles on it
Same engine in the Audi TT 1.8 T 20valve you can do so much with these engines in the terms of modding them, the engine in the corsa is very week compared to this engine, not knocking your vxr, but German engineering is second to none , keep up the good videos
It'll be a slightly bigger turbo in the cupra which is why it takes the higher revs to spool, your vxr will be quicker off the line as the turbo spools quicker in lower revs
Anytime I see these Cupra R’s the owners are always ready to race 😂 they’ve got such an aggressive front end and they’re powerful cars for their age and highly tuneable especially the FR diesels
@@mattknott5265 the pistons can handle 500 hp stock, the driveshafts wont allow anything over 300 or 320 for a low milage car. the crank can easily handle 500hp also.
Stumbled across this video randomly, I think this review is pretty much spot on. My LCR is more or less identical to this (even down to the carbon Seat badges) although mine is considerably lower. A friend of mine owned a Corsa VXR and I left it for dead, although he did have passengers. Another of my pals had an Astra VXR and I just edged ahead. I just found the handling to be too aggressive and not nearly as productive as you'd expect. The Astra is a weapon, no question they're bags of fun. I just think they should've been engineered to handle the power more than they can. I originally wanted an 8L S3, but after a test driving one it felt practically boring. Turned my head to an LCR and was blown away. Now into my 6th year of owning my LCR, kid on the way, life becoming seriously serious very quickly. But Leona's going nowhere.
(Seat Cupra 1.8T), (Audi A4 1.8T), (Passat 1.8T), (Audi TT 1.8T), (Audi S2 1.8T), (Golf 1.8T)....etc.. All the same engines in different cars... The power gains from these engines is on another level, when given a re-map. Highly tunable engine!!
Mate I've got an r mk1, bonnet latch issue and springs went, boost pipes will need replacing, but it's a quick car and always puts a smile on my face, I've got a de baffled charge pipe and it's reduced turbo lag so worth upgrading
I own the LCR mk1 210hp, stock, bought new in 2003. Still love it. Now with 275k km on the clock, never had turbo failure or any mechanical issue. Very robust Audi S3 engine.
I did actualy have a leon 1m 1.6 16v 105hp as my first car, then I had a old toyota and a vw Polo 6n and now i'm currently looking for a new leon 1m. It's the best car i ever owned
Drove one of these about 10 years ago and they were proper quick, then had to get back into a Clio! Can’t tell you the level of disappointment after giving the keys back.
Best seats I ever sat in was in a Mazda 323 1998, them seats HUG you, comfy as well. Second to that was my RX8 seats and then my MK4 Ibiza Cupra seats.
The turbo lag is most likely something to do with that specific car , if you floor the second gear and change to 3rd the revs drop to around 4k rpm which is where the turbo is boosting straght away. I've got a BAM 260bhp and the turbo just stays on all the way.
Just bought a mint MK1 20V T for silly money., the 180 bhp one, non R version. Mine not being the R and 100% stock is definitely a little sleeper of sorts. With a new back box and remap we’ll be over 200 bhp👍 Great looking car though doesn’t stand out in a crowd and reasonably cheap to buy and not R for ragged!
That’s a proper car pal! Seat’s a brilliant cars owned a mk2 for a year now and you are defo right about turbo lag, but find it pulls better in higher gears! Too video again mate
Good vid mate. Would be good to see a side by side comparison between the LCR and Wez vxr. Oh this is completely stock bar the cat back from the sound of it.
Such a nice car i had a seat leon 1.6 in dominican republic never got to drive the cupra r version. These seat leon are like the better version of a vw golf lol
I’ve had three of those vehicles as my company car excellent vehicle So I’ve got myself a brand-new 5S5 Leon 2 L TS I and it’s the dogs bollocks in my opinion The look on your face young man when you floored it was amazing I really enjoyed looking at that car again Thanks
What mods does the car hace engine wise mate? Need to tread carfeul with them as you already know, iv got a burg my self with airtec intercooler and piping, bigger injectors, turbo back exausht ect mapped by wg motorwoks thats possibly the most important thing a well known tuner
I've owned a mk1 Leon Cupra R and i can tell you straight away that an open cone filter is fitted. You can tell by the sound when the turbo spools up and then you let off the throttle. Sounds like Darth Vader is hiding in the glove box
I got 2017 Leon fr its fast I have had that model and Mark 2 tfsi. But I got to say I still love that style it my new Leon fr had all the technology in that model I would definitely prefer that style Leon they look so sporty and different seany 😨
I've got a Cupra R, the stuff about the turbo is crap! Mine has boost waiting as soon as you plant it. This one must have a dodgy turbo if it takes a couple seconds to boost. Absolute animals these cars!!
Penny flash 📸👌. I agree with you on the statement you made about on the vxr when you look at the clocks and think "shit im already doing that speed" mines same but a vectra vxr.
My friend used have one of these stage 2 mods and map pulled really hard to the redline. He replaced it with a mk2 Leon cupra r running 320bhp at the moment his looking to take it to about 350 Bhp
I'm a bit late to subbing you mate but just seen this vid and it's great. I'm looking for an older hot hatch and these beauties are well within my budget. How would it compare to a current Mk7/8 fiesta st. Well out my budget but are they similar performance?
Wish I’d of been able to pop up bro and show it some proper boost! 🤪🤪👌🏻, sounds decent enough tho and a top review from my boi!! I would of let you drive mine but you never asked hahahaa maybe 😝👌🏻 reeespect bro!!
I’ve had the worst luck with my Cupra R, worst car I’ve own in regards of the reliability.. owned the 2 and a half years now and I’m 6k in (excluding the purchase) in the words of Sum 41 ‘I’m in too deep’
Sleeper? Behave lol every man and his dog knows that these are packing decent bhp and the big alloys, big calipers and R badges sort of give it away too
Jesse give me a shout if your ever in Glasgow & you can try out my car mate...If your needing material for your channel! ;-) Keep up the great vids & you & a few others like Lee & BWTV's Brad have inspired me to start modding again at the ripe old age of 40 FFS! :-D
@@JesseCollingham where abouts are you im from london , ive got a astra vxr arden blue and few of my mates have corsa vxr astra vxr golf r32s be good to meet up if ur intrested man ;-)
