Persona 3 was my introduction to the persona series back when i was in 7th grade so when reload was leaked and everyone thought it was "fake" i held out onto hope that it was real. I'm 17 now and soon to graduate in may, so to be able to experience persona 3 again is nothing short of a miracle
This is the game that showed me the Dorm life, have fun hang out at Mall, listen to cool city pop music and do a full blown operation with Friends fighting Shadow at midnight. 15 Years old me at that time wished that i could live alone, and someone invite me to fight Demon or something exciting like that. yeah i did end up living at Dorm, and went to university, but, nothing exciting ever happened, zero fight with Monster. but at least did hang out at Mall with friends and have fun yesterday, I played Persona 3 Reload, and oh boy, that first time Awakening scene was so cool, it sparked the interest to do a midnight operation and fighting demon in the real world again
I was 8 years old when it came out on ps2, I am 26 years old now and I’m ready for pure nostalgia. I was also fortunate to play 5 two weeks in advance thanks to a friend working at a game store and I was 18 at the time. Time sure hella flies my friend, cheers! Smoking the herb and flying to Tartarus!
They forget Persona 3 too, Persona 2 has two titles. Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. So technically Persona 3 is Persona 4 and Persona 4 and 5 are Persona 5 and 6.
People don't forget about them. They are just so different that it is not necessarily worth it to talk about 1-5 as a franchise. 1-2 duology is a pretty consistent trilogy. 3-5 is a pretty consistent trilogy.
I have played it about 20 hours now and I can't unhear the combat music at one point saying "a*al juice" 😭😂. It always breaks me from the groove once I hear it.
@@yannispirou101 just remember that p4g is quite dated at this point and doesn't have all the bells and whistles. My friend also started with P5 and while he enjoyed P4 Golden, he said it didn't feel anywhere near as fun.
@@TheCalmPsycho I lowkey agree. While I think it has it's own unique charm, the animation and gameplay definitely feels a lot slower and unrefined compared to P5R and P3R rn. Would've loved it if I played it years before P5 came out tho.
If you enjoy the dungeon crawling and boss encounters in Persona (Especially in P3) then I'd recommend Shin Megami Tensei. I know some people like Persona for the characters/story etc so maybe SMT isn't for them which is fine too, but if you love JRPG combat you'll love SMT.
The game is amazing. I instantly knew I was in for a quality time, when I saw the smooth P5 style menu screens and those bangers started bumping in the background. Great VA work and beautiful visuals too.
Im literally so happy that you made this video, Joey. One of my favorite youtuber covering about my favorite game? It feels surreal. Well so far in my playthrough, the OST has been a banger and the graphics are sooo good. Its a huge gap from the original persona 3. The cutsenes are beautiful, the small details are amazing. The emotions carried by the characters really hit you hard. Honestly might be the best game in 2024.
Appreciated Joey! I've always loved Persona, and Persona 3, it's such a gigantic inspiration for my future works. I'm buying it as soon as I can, and this review's only bolstered that decision. Thanks man!
I remember checking Persona 3 after the Penny Arcade guys talked about it. Went in blind beyond the most basic stuff and was blown away. There was one moment that made me so upset I nearly quit the game. It's rare I get emotionally invested in characters but Atlus are so good at fleshing out their characters between the obligatory parts and the optional soul links where you can learn so much about them. It's great being able to playthrough again and choose to focus on different relationships and connect with characters you might barely have interacted with outside the main story previously.
My introduction to Persona was with P5R last year and I loved everything about it so much. I've finished P4G recently and again was so captivated, the murder mystery style had me hooked and it's insane to me how many turns there are until the very last day. I'm so hyped to dive into P3 now.
I hope you have fun with it! I was personally a little let down by P3, playing it after P5 and 4 may have tainted the experience for me, but I ended up seeing the "dark themes" in P3 as more overly edgy stuff that didn't fit well with the social sim aspects of the game. Granted, I haven't played reload.
I'm literally so happy about the changes and thanks for not spoiling anything lol. I played FES in like 2010 i think, I never got to beat it. (it wasn't my ps2) but i tried to play the portable version but wasn't the same. I'm so excited to finally play it all the way through!
It's pretty interesting getting the perspective of someone that based on what you said didn't even play Fes (The new romance is actually from that version btw) seeing as even me who has been an smt fan since the PS2 era didn't play og P3 and haven't really heard any opinions from people who have played just the original and not like every improved version.
P5 was my first jump into Persona, but I did know of the series since 3 just never was able to get into it at the time. But once I did? Persona also became my fav JRPG series of all time. So after playing 5, Royal, P5 Strikers and P4 Golden. The announcement of this game came out, and I knew I had to get it. And so far, I'm loving it.
I really like the Persona style and the newer aesthetic, but I wasn't able to get into Persona with 5, I still really wanna get into Persona, and it sounds like while similar 3 Reload might just be the game that does that!
P3 is my favorite game of all time for many reasons, I've been in the persona saga for 8 years now, so getting to play the remake of my all time favorite piece of media is really special to me, and just admiring how greatly crafted from zero is, the new animations, attention to detail, graphics, art, the original Japanese cast that I truly admire and love, music, among other beautiful details from Atlus team everything to me is just like the first time I played it on PS2 , thank you for your video Joeyさん、いつも動画見てますからずっと応援する。
You make me want to get this game even more now xD. P3 is my all time favorite persona... i just can't wait to have the game in my hands. I'm actually Excited for Metaphor RE: Fantazio because it's basically the next Persona game with persona and evangelion peeps working on it. Persona fans will be eating good in 2024.
It's magnificent! I am on merciless mode without guides as my first playthrough although I did play the original games too being P3 and P3FES with guides so I can still somewhat feel my way around some stuff. I started taking notes on schedules on all the activities etc..
I remember playing Persona 3 after gaming it from GAME. The shadows as the little blob monsters had terrified me! 😆 But the story was so important and meant so much it has such a special place in my heart. My only wish was that FeMc could have been included, but I'm excited nonetheless to experience it all again
yes, older Persona game like 1-3 have a more horror like vibe, which is great, because it's more immersive, and gave the shadow and persona more Weight to it, like it was a supernatural horror being. while persona 4 and 5 tone it down considerably, which is fine and i'm okay with it, and in modern persona they chose to present it as a Folklore & Historical hero/villain figure, and and less like a Demon or Devil, which makes sense, and i guess that decision appeal more to the newcomer but i just miss the Darker Vibe and Melancholy feeling of early persona game
Thanks Joey! I love classic JRPG and Persona 5 was a classic! Its a few days of snow in Canada may just need to download. Great review in both pod cast !
Been waiting for this remake is since I played it in high school! SO happy that it came out and so far really enjoyable to play. Cant wait to do a first play then 100% as well.
I played the OG P3 back when I was in middle school era and I can't remember most of it that much because smol brain. Playing Reload felt like a whole new experience again and I'm livin for it. And omg, i kid you not. I was frozen in place during the rooftop cutscene. That scene gave me literal chills over how good it was. Anyone who has never played persona games before, and worried about if they should have played the first two persona to play P3. Rest assured, you can start with P3 reload just fine because that's how i got into the persona series back in the day.
Just like Joey, I have also played the original PS2 version. It was also my first Persona game and P3 is an amazing experience. It felt really nice to visit this game a second time. The improved visual quality is so nice and exploring Tartarus is a lot more fun than before.
I live streamed it at release and my f-ing GOOOOOD.its so good. I’ve never played the original game bc i never owned a PlayStation but I have played the portable version
im currently playing it and so far it is spectacular. they did everything i was hoping they would from the UI to Tartarus to to having map fast travel. they brought all the user friendly modern aspects of persona games back to what is my absolute favorite story. im having a blast
I was 8 years old when it came out on ps2, I am 26 years old now and I’m ready for pure nostalgia. I was also fortunate to play 5 two weeks in advance thanks to a friend working at a game store and I was 18 at the time. Time sure hella flies my friend, cheers! That part about romancing multiple chars got me 😂 I went with Aigis and I think day of entering her romance route (since it is the one that takes longest to get) I also finished Elizabeths quests...which led to the invite. Which I accepted with zero moral thought to it. Def spent more hours than i'd like to admit just afk jammin' along with the UI/audio interfaces. Will add though, I didn't even know/pay attention to the part where they introduce the "rewind" feature in this one *for mistakes etc* so I didn't utilize it in my run. Might have helped with the social-sim aspects a bit though. Solid review tbh and great prefacing with the takeaways.
I will never forget the unique experience P5 gave me when it first came out. As a lonely kid living out of my bedroom just discovering video games, P5 was basically religious. It blew my mind and also introduced me to jrpgs as a whole. Then, P5R came out and I got to relive the magic all over again. I’ve watched playthroughs of P4 Golden and FES, but never had the equipment to play those games myself - so I’m really excited to sink my teeth into Reload! I know the story’s going to be a banger and I’m glad they’re sticking with the slick aesthetics of P5. Given P5 was my first Persona game & my introduction to the genre, I don’t think anything can beat it in my mind or give me the same level of immersion, but I’m sure P3R well come close. I can’t wait to play it!
Persona 3 was my first introduction to the Persona series and it's my favorite JRPG series (or any game series really). I still haven't bought Reload yet since I'm already playing to many different games that I haven't finished but I have to admit, it really is tempting to drop everything else and jump into Reload instead.
Thanks for your thoughts! ❤ I first played P3 at a gaming event at my university. I was a transfer student from out of state and didn’t know anyone. Someone in my Japanese class invited me to their weekly game night and since I was alone and kind of shy, she handed me P3 on a PSP and I was HOOKED instantly. I played FES, too (bought a PS2 specifically for it) and then later got P4 on my PS Vita. I lived in Japan when the musical came out in Tokyo and got to see it and it was amazing! It felt so cool being around so many Persona fans. I never finished P3 or P4 because they were difficult and I played P4 in Japanese and didn’t know what I was supposed to be doing really haha 😅 but I played P5 three times (vanilla, NG+, and Royal) and it’s my favorite. But recently I got P3 and P4 on my Steam Deck during a sale and I am about halfway through P3. I probably won’t get to the reload for quite a while but I’m so excited for when I’ll play it eventually - I know it will be amazing. The soundtrack is 🔥
Reload is great. They added a lot of flourishes to the old game to make it aesthetically pleasing and fine tuned gameplay to be much more modern/engaging. Twilight fragments for example are a new feature that really helps all aspects of the game. To collect these fragments for opening special boxes or completely restoring SP/HP in Tartarus; players are encouraged to explore, find social links, and advance social links. Though they did fix one exploit that I sort of miss and that was in the previous versions, you could buy unlimited sodas which restored 5 SP and this allowed you to stay in Tartarus(their dungeon) much longer.
@@ChadVigilanteI understand why they left it out, it's a lot of voice lines to record and they would still need to retune combat because things were balanced differently for Aigis. It was like ~20 more hours of game, but it was a lot of scenes regarding everyone's experience after the end of P3. I expect them to do DLC or a master version with the female MC and the last arc assuming the game does well.
Playing through the game right now and i love it! Its a trip down nostalgia lane for me. I feel like im 10 years in the past play through FES again. I just cant help but have a grin on my face while playing through the game. I know its not perfect but P3 was my introduction to the persona series and it remains my favorite story of the 3 ive played despite its flaws and improvements in P4 and P5.
Thx for reminding me I'm old. P3, was my first persona game I picked up on staffies, that and FFCC back when I worked at Gamesman before EB Games bought them. I definitely worked way too long in gaming retail. But I'll have to check the new version out when I can.
So did I, Joey. I got to play it in october at EGX london in 2023. I pre-ordered the game, but sadly amazon delayed it until the 5th :( that's why I'm not gonna watch this video quite yet. But I'll be back when I get my hands on the game :)
As someone who was first introduced via Persona 5 when I was a teenager and who was originally hesitant but fell madly in love with Persona 5 Royal, I was very excited when I heard about this game's release. I had always wanted to play the previous installments but the graphics were a big hurdle, lucky for me, P3 Reload's graphics are gorgeous and I'm having the time of my life playing this game. Thank you Atlus and Sega for making this masterpiece and Thank you Joey for reminding of this game's release. Much love everyone and happy gaming!
P3P was my introduction to the Persona series, needless to say it and P4G were some of the defining games of my high school life. Really enjoyed P5R too a few years back. This series taught me a lot about time management and prioritizing important relationships in my life, helping me through my academics and early career. Playing P3R as a working adult has been a great reminder of where I started, and lighting a fire under my ass to keep my life in check.
Persona 3 was one of my favorite games of all time even before Reload. It means so much to me and P3 Reload is so amazing and i cant believe its real. Love it so much. They improve on so much having the link episodes with the male team members and such. I do wish it had femc and the answer to make it have all content together but its amazing how it is for sure
I just got it but haven't played it at all yet. P3P was my introduction to the series when I first got my hands on a PSP back in 2010 and I loved that game so much. I played it all the way to the end more than 6 times by the time the PS Vita was out. I bought it and jumped straight to P4G the moment it was available and it came to be my favorite game of all time up to this day, right next to its younger sibling, P5R. I'm thinking of whipping out my old Vita to play P3R on it since that's how I played both P4G and the og P5 (using remote play) and absolutely loved them.
I started with P5 when that came out 7 years ago but I always loved the atmosphere of 3 especially since I played SMT Nocturne growing up. I got the remake now and I love it so much with the UI update as well as the updated actors
My sons have been playing Persona 5 recently. My oldest son just completed Persona 5 Royal were as my youngest son finished Persona 5 last night. I've been thinking about starting to play these games at the ripe old age of 54, lol. My youngest son just started Persona 3 Reload on launch day and he's really enjoying it. I would like to see an update for the first two games.
the crit/hitting weakness animations are by far the best, so much impact. and yes. Fuuka's revamps was such a good choice, more personality and the added stuffs includes more character building for her.
As someone who played fes and loved it I really hope I'll enjoy reload unpopular opnion though I kinda hope they add in a mode to restore the fatigue system gave the game a new challenge without just hard blocking you
Can’t wait till they finally put the soundtrack on streaming services that new battle theme is slowly becoming one of my favorite songs in the entire franchise. My cheeks actually hurt from smiling so much, I love this game.
I am playing through Persona 3 FES right now before I even knew that their was gonna be a Persona 3 remake. Persona 3 Reload is a massive upgrade from the original. Better combat, better graphics, way less bugs, a much more digestible social link and requests mapping. Everything feels so much more contained in Reload compared to the original game where its all just everywhere. The game outside of story is meh but the story is holy fucking shit good.
I prefer a few things like the original anime cutscenes in a few areas like during the awakening of Orpheus/Thanatos and the intro scene, wasn’t a fan of the new ones. The bangers were better in the original one (mass destruction, iwatodai dorm) but every other background track definitely got that remix upgrade where they sound better I feel like the remake wasn’t maybe necessary since the FES still stands up on its own but yeah, the remake is pretty cool
Holy frigging dumbsheet zoomer, considering it is 2024. and the original came out in the 00s on the PS2, the remake better has better graphics. What a gigantic waste of breathe. -Better combat? P4 and P5 did next to nothing to innovate the combat. P3P already made the change to allow for individual party control. This is why atlus port P3P. It has FeMC route and party control. -Way less bug? P3 is hardly a buggy game. -"Everything feels so much more contained in Reload compared to the original game where its all just everywhere" WTF are you even talking about? -"The game outside of story is meh." It is the same social link mechanics, combat, dating sims + dungeon crawler structure that continued in P4 and P5. It is the same formula that made persona popular. sheety zoomer, learn to stop being so sheety.
@@Cujo_Kitz you mean like gameplay wise or pacing wise? I would think most games doesn’t have the best coding and most people wouldn’t even notice either
Joey u excited for Metaphor refantazio too? Its made by the same creators of persona 5, and it has similar battle systems and similar calendar mechanic
Do you know if P3R is going to get an enhanced version similar to p4 with golden, p3 with fes and p5 with royal? Just wondering if I should wait or buy now.
Midori (a well known, fairly reliable Atlus leaker) has stated that an enhanced version of this game won’t be happening, though I’ve seen mixed leaks/opinions on whether the bonus content in Portable/FES will be DLC
I gotta replay mines again now. I was able to get everyone to LVL99 , and passed the game . BUT, i was never able to get that one legendary item. It was either called " Odin's sphere or black matter " . I might be confusing it with something else. But it was a very specific drop, that granted invulnerability or something like that. I had started a second playthrough, but i don't remember where i left . Might have to start over.... Thanks Joey.
So I never really played JRPG's. It never seemed like something I would enjoy. But I heard the segment on Trash Taste and impulse bought it today. I've got to say, what an amazing game. I've already played it for 10 hours just today. So yeah Joey, thx for getting me into Persona I guess
it is indeed everything I hoped for too, played it.. awesome game.. just as awesome as I remembered, can't wait to bang my head in the bus listening to the soundtracks
Didn't get into the Persona series until recently but I've played P3 FES, P4 Golden, P5 Royal, and P3P and just now starting P3R has been just fenominal. Everything that I loved about P3 is there with the style of P5. Hats off to Atlus for making such an amazing remake. Now they just have to remake 1 and 2 so I can finally play those.
The game is stunning I played the original p3 and also p4 and p5 and I love everything about this series. I’m currently playing p3 reload and it’s just perfection. Like Joey said I would love to have a p4 remake too 😂
If I'm being honest, despite not playing it yet, I am very much liking lots of the changes so far. There's also some parts they kept in the game such as the Reversal Social Links which would make people wary about it happen to them. Just need to ask, which character Social Links that allows us to romance the character that we previously can't romance with? I could only guess either Chihiro or Yuko. Its been awhile anyway.
I played a little bit of the og and had to drop it because the news of a remake of it was coming out. So I waited till it came out. And I'm not disappointed the game is amazing. Two things I wish they did Wish they added perks for social links Wish the xp was distributed more evenly.
Love this game!!! It's a dream come true for me, as a long time Persona fan! I wholeheartedly believe this can be the best starting point for players new to this series. Also, just wanna mention that there are 4 anime movies based on the plot of Persona 3, and they're amazing! Go check em out everyone!
Persona 4 was my introduction to the persona series but I absolutely adore P3. I played P3FES and loved the game from start to finish. There's something about P3, like, the vibe or something that's so different than the other ones. I love it.
Persona 3 has always been one of my favorite games of all time. It's the game that got me into the series, but more than that, it's a game that kind of changed my life. In an age where remakes have been pretty hit-or-miss across the board, I was a bit hesitant to get to excited upon Reload's leaking (and eventual reveal) but with about 15 hours put in the game so far, I can confidently say this remake has far surpassed my expectations. I feel comfortable in saying that it's the best game in the series, taking an already amazing game and adding a lot of QOL as well as some additions that fix some of the more shallow aspects of the og game. Atlus knocked it out of the park with this one :)
I have never played any JRPG's but this video made me want to play Persona 3! Is it a good place to start? Like i'm not missing any lore or something by not playing persona 1 & 2.
Each entry is self-contained. So the stories don't connect to one another at all unless you play the spin-off games. Aside from references and cameos, you're not missing anything.
Each game is a separate story, and yes, P3R is perfect entry point. Persona 4 hasn't gotten a remake yet, so P3R and Persona 5 Royal are perfect to start with, then you can give P4G (Persona 4 Golden) a try.
