You are definitely not being trolled, you've been introduced to one of the best musicians of this century. Please, please go down this rabbit hole, you will be as obsessed as most of us Primus fans. Expect a bunch of people saying, "Primus sucks!" It's a term of endearment lol They are awesome live!
Yeah man! See someone wearing a Primus shirt? Scream "Primus Sucks!" And you always get a smile or a thumbs up! Gotta love the inside jokes with the culture.
Primus is a legitimately incredible band, but I would not want to see this video for the first time while recovering from Covid. Les Claypool might just be a magical creature, though.
They are actually a great band… did you hear how skilled they are on those instruments?? Les Claypool is considered one of the best bassists of all time!
Primus is a seriously talented, serious band, but they don't take themselves or their lyrics too seriously. I would recommend Jerry Was A Racecar Driver to see the effect they have on a crowd. Primus suck!
Dont forget about Larry LaLonde, the guitarist. Initially gained fame for being in one of the seminal death metal bands Possessed before joining Primus in 1989.
Everyone in Primus is amazing musicians, but "Les Claypool" it's certainly the greatest bass guitarist of our time & arguably one of the best in history… I implore you to watch one of their live sets.... I would personally recommend "Tommy the cat" but keep in mind they're purposely over-the-top and don't take themselves too serious, but they are seriously talented musicians, and the vocals are just fun little stories he's telling in between them showcasing their amazing instrumental talents....
Show me another example of a more talented bass player… I know there's a few, but even they would agree. This dude is amazing. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hMsJlJdWof8.html
I think the video distracted you from the musical talent on display here. Les Claypool the bassist singer is widely regarded as one of, if not, the premier alt-rock bassist.
Primus is awesome, check out My Name is Mud. Les Claypool may be the best bassist I have ever heard. I learned about them from the Primus pinball machine. The instrumentals are just so different.
Sometimes when I think someone isn't paying attention I'll say "so I kissed him on the cranium with an aluminum baseball bat." It's immediately obvious if they were paying attention 😂
Just so you know when people say Primus sucks it is actually a catch phrase that their fans use to show love for this weirdly wonderful band of amazing musicians. They do not take themselves seriously. You Really need to react to their song " Tommy The Cat".
Claypool once described Primus as "psychedelic polka". They started from the underground Cali thrash metal scene and developed into what I always though of as sort of an experimental funk prog rock sort of thing. Really you just have to make up a genre name because they're a band that's a one off.
They are an amazing live band. Metallica had Les try out after Cliff died and they told him he was too good of a bassist to be in the band. That's how good his is.
Please do more primus. That reaction you had is how I felt the first time I listened to them. Now im an obsessed fan. Now that I've warned you, listen at your own risk and enjoyment.
"Am I in a fever dream?" is actually the best one sentence description of this music video and song I've heard. That was probably my reaction when I saw this video on MTV for the first time....yes, this video was actually shown on TV. Primus is a legit band full of super talented musicians, Les Claypool is widely considered one of best bassists on the planet. Primus is also legitimately full of weirdos who aren't afraid "to let their freak flag fly", which is how you get songs and videos like this. If you want to see a less weird Primus video, I'd suggest their cover of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" or "Jerry was a Race Car Driver" (which the music video starts super weird, but gets much less so pretty quickly).
0:06 - I got this far before cracking up and snort-laughing. You've really never heard this song before? Primus is an amazing band with one of the best bassists out there.
Come on Cliff! These guys are legends. For people who are new to Primus, its easy to get distracted by the lyrics and videos, and overlook the genius underneath the surface. Yes, more PRIMUS please. Your reaction was priceless...Oh, this song was nominated for a Grammy btw
YO!!! I’m here for Primus!!!! We got to see an evening with Primus where they played the whole Sailing the seas of cheese and another 90 minutes of hits! It was amazing
MORE PRIMUS!!! But understand in advance they don't get more "Normal" They are what they are, and that is pure genius, that amazes you with the best Bass play of all time, while making you giggle 😂
Finally some real music!😂 No but in all seriousness, Primus is fantastic band! "Jerry was a race car driver" next! Best bass player in history of universe and yes this is a masterpiece!
Primus is an awesome band. I love the bass player! He has very distinct voice, too. Did you know Primus did the theme for South Park? Maybe Shake Hands with Beef would've been a better starting place?
Lol, this is one of their biggest songs and I’m sure it wasn’t meant to be a troll. Yeah, they’re different but they’re also very talented and obviously a lot of fun. Check out Jerry Was a Race Car Driver next 👍🏼
Les Claypool is on a great many bass players' list of influences, been around for a long time. I saw him in 99 at Ozzfest with Buckethead. Primus uses comedy and innuendo in a lot if not all of their songs.
It's creative. When a band is told they need exposure and should make a video, the ultimate goal is to be memorable. With that, they have to consider the 10,000 videos that have already played on MTV... and how to stand out. Not my personal cup of tea, but I appreciate the musical talent and originality.
Primus goes so hard. Les Claypool is in the conversation of the best bass guitarists that ever lived. They also play the South Park theme song. I used to play this song for my youngest daughter, it was the only thing that would get her to sleep as a baby.
Prius was the opening act for wyld stalyns at the battle of the band's in bill and reds bogus journey, they also did a themes song for a pretty famous cartoon thsts been on the air a while
5:02 - I recommend Primus - My Name Is Mud or DMV next, depending on how spicy you're feeling. If you're ready to go full fever dream, though... Tommy the Cat.
Fever dream, I can relate. Was at a music festival and ate too many 🍄and left this relam. Thankfully Primus came on and brought me back into my body. I hauled my butt back to my van and listen from there🥴
That’s everyone’s first reaction seeing Primus! They are huge fans of Rush but also very bizarre! You have to be thinking on various different levels at the same time with Primus. As it’s their C&W type song cartoonish cowboy suits are required! Be prepared for more weird from Primus.
Ahhhh the 90's, it was such a weird and wonderful time to be alive. As the old movie quote says "The 90's are going to make the 60's look like the 50's"
Too Many Puppies, My Name is Mud, Those Damn Blue Collar Tweakers, i could go on and on. They're catalog is a fun rabbit hole for sure. PRIMUS SUCKS!!! 🤘🤘
I think a lot of us, especially the 90s youth, are just as freaked out as you Cliff, except we're freaked out over the fact that you're freaked out by this videol...lol. You may be too young to remember, and I often forget, just how weird the 1990s could be at times, and how we became used to it. They're really hard to nail down to a genre, but are phenomenal musicians, they were influenced a lot by prog rock, psychedelic funk, and punk rock, and you've most likely heard them before Cliff, they wrote and perform the opening song for SouthPark!! Great reaction as usual! ✌💚
Primus’s first album Suck On This is an incredible feat of musicianship, I’d highly recommend checking it out, it’s definitely way less weird than this but my lord it’s so good I had to get it on LP
Welcome to Primus, my friend. 30 years of bass-driven weirdness. Les Claypool is up there among the greatest bassists of all time. He's just got a...quirky...sense of humour.
Back in the late 90s and early aughts, winamp was a mp3 player for your computer. There were like over 200 genre classifications, and one was just Primus. That's how bizarre and awesome Primus is.
With Primus just sit back and enjoy it. They are just a good time in every way imaginable. Incredible musicians, but they don't take themselves too seriously.
The guitar was good?..... DID YOU NOT HEAR THE BASS? I know Primus is alot to digest but the musicianship of these guys is incredible.... The bass player is Les Claypool. A master of his art!
Primus is great! This song came out when my kids were young, and they thought it was the greatest thing since Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Mr. Krinkle ran a close second. They also did the theme song for South Park.
Les Claypool, who is the lead singer, is literally viruoso level bass player. Primus is a Gonzo Rock band, and “Les Claypool & the frog brigade” as well as the Cloypool/lennon Delirium” are still as bonkers musical wise without being so out there lyric wise.
Primus is absurdly awesome. It baffles me because you’re the first Primus reaction video that I’ve seen where they didn’t become an instant fan. I suggest My Name is Mud, Jerry Was a Racecar Driver, Mr. Krinkle, Shake Hands with Beef, jeez I could just keep naming songs and they’re all gold. Maybe you’re just not a Primus fan
