I grew 235 lbs Of Potatoes in 200 square foot Without Watering. I wanted to show how many potatoes you could grow in a space 20ft x 10ft or 200 square foot. This was to show that most people can grow all the potatoes they require for their family without it taking over the entire garden.
Discover everything you need to know about different potato varieties with our comprehensive Potato Information Tool! Click here to get your password and start exploring: geni.us/potato...
However, This year I became ill with vertigo and was unable to get to the garden to water these potatoes. They were watered at the time of planting and since this date has had to fend for themselves.
In this episode, we harvest all 48 containers of potatoes with five varieties of potatoes. The varieties are as follows:
Marfona
Rudolph
Sarpo Mira
Charlotte
Kestral
While harvesting these potatoes I will be giving you 10 tips in which to ensure you get a good crop of potatoes in a small space. The average yield from each of these buckets was 4.98 this is extremely low to my normal yield of around 12 to 15lbs. but considering they have no input I am happy.
If I had the yield I normally get then this space would have produced approximately 720 lbs of potatoes. Hopefully next year I will be able to show these results. But overall I think this is a result considering the circumstances.
During the video, I will be giving you loads of potato tips and potato hacks so that you can get the best results from growing potatoes in containers or buckets.
Check out my new book that you can pre-order now. Simplify Vegetable Gardening will be available on 16th Feb 2024. Pre-order now to be the first to get a copy of this book that has all my personal tips. geni.us/Simpli...

Absolutely brilliant video and information. Thank you! I have been rotating crops in my garden, however I feel that the whole lot seems to revolve too much around potatoes, and how after them, the soil needing to have nutrients replenished. So I think I will try to grow the potatoes using your method. Question: What do you now do with all the soil? Do you reuse it the following year with new added compost and continue like this for a number of years? Could you share your post harvest soil process leading up to the following season? Thank you.

Absolutely fantastic advice and tips, although I'd suggest the "no watering" in Australia might result in a bucket of sand as there must clearly be a great deal more precipitation over in your part of the world! Great video though, any thoughts on growing them in an aquaponics setup? Or is it simpler just sticking with buckets? Cheers for sharing, have a great day!

I have used a closed water current system to help grow our Tomatoes and Marijuana. My mentor bought 5 totes, cut holes for pvc piping to fit, connect all the totes, and have a current generator hooked up to circulate the water. He also had a water chiller to control temp, and used airstones to increase oxygen content. It really was a solid system for our needs.

Number one cause of potato failure in my part of the world is too much water, between heavy spring rains (a couple weeks ago we got about 13cm in 24hrs), hurricane season in late summer and clay soil that just doesn't drain. So, my experience has been that if I water my potatoes then I've rotted them. It's really fascinating to hear that people in other places have the opposite issue.

Great experimentation, welldone. "No need to water" is an easy claim in Wales ☔. Pulling flowers forces another layer of seed potato noddules in those last 4 weeks of growth. Reason you had a lot of small seed potatos in mix. Also cutting your large original seed potatos in half can stop slimmy rot.

The cattle wire setup you used is a technique called "Screen of Green" or SCRoG, and it's highly beneficial with a lot of fruiting plants. Glad to hear you recovered from your illness, I've been hit with covid and a couple colds myself - not fun, but it's a joy to return to a solid yielding garden, I had to destroy mine when I got sick (along with a tilapia pond). Tony I'm so glad your ok now. God was good and gave you the taters so you'd smile when you were well. I grew taters this year because of you and WHAT A JOY! I did the hay method. Learned I should have put walk ways, to let me walk in taters to pick bugs off. Lesson learned. I had 3 beautiful black & white speckled King snakes that loved the tater bed as well because I would see them and their skin's being shed. They are considered an asset (one that will scare you and make you trip over your self too 😂) because they eat the bad snakes. I enjoyed my beautiful King Snakes and together we made it thru the season. Also, I had the most gorgeous worms that were so fat and big. Some worms looked like baby snakes hahaha they were loving the decomposing hay! I didn't know how to feed taters til I watched this video but next year will be better. I planted Red taters....who knows what variety...and Yukon gold. Put tater slips, not whole taters, in ground that I made myself off 4 lbs of taters. My little crop gave me back 55lbs. Here was the best part: I thought of you each time and was so happy to be out gardening. It was like you were right there for me. My dad, X husband and friend all thought I was crazy using the hay method and laughed thinking I wouldn't grow any taters. So for Father's Day, all those men who doubted my tater skills were called to the house to dig up taters. What fun! I laughed watching as the big worms scared them to death, how they couldn't believe I grew taters and how they were doing all the hard work.lol Tony thank you again for you teaching us. You made a difference in my life. I'M SUPER EXCITED to grow taters next year!

You got more potatoes in one bucket than I got in all 12 of my bags. I watered almost every other day. I’m loving the knowledge. Thanks for the example to learn and grow from!

You are an amazing man. I learned so much from this video. Thank you so very much for breaking it all down like this & explaining it. I have grown potatoes last year & I did okay I guess- but yields were not as much as I expected. Now I know why. Thank you again. I get it now. 👍🤗

Always like what you teach and have to say! Thanks so much! My container potatoes I did last year didn't fare so well, not wet enough. I gotta bury them and mulch the top, then use a drip hose to water more frequently. Thanks Tony!
