When you look at the condition of his body, and how calm and tolerant he is, I'm guessing his coat is the ONLY neglected thing about that good boy! What upsets me is the thought that the prior groomer surely knew this man was going through financial hardship and suggested a highly expensive and potentially dangerous (anaesthesia) veterinary procedure for a job that took Vanessa 32 minutes with a shaver and a clip lead!
@Arcanadragon
@Arcanadragon 6 месяцев назад
I concur completely - especially after considering how dangerous it is to anesthetize a pet. Obviously, anesthesia must be used for major procedures like surgeries and other medical emergencies, but the mortality rate of pets that receive anesthesia - even just anesthesia to hold them still for grooming - is disturbingly high. I didn't know this until recently, but I couldn't agree more that anesthetizing a pet is far too risky to even _consider_ for a simple grooming routine like this one was!
@rlight7334
@rlight7334 6 месяцев назад
I also think that in the litigious society we are in, groomers are refusing to do difficult dogs. Which then trickles down to the younger generation as lack of desire to go the extra mile because they never see anyone do so.
@scribblebee5412

@@rlight7334I dont think thats the only reason. Some groomer might not have much experience grooming dificult dogs or thoes with aditional needs, they might not be equipped to take on such a task either. I'd rather a groomer say they aren't qualified or equipped to handle somthing instead of taking on the job and possibly doing harm to themselves and/or the pet. I do think however if they were to reject the work they should know of a more qualified groomer who they could recomend.

@@lawyerpanda1856it makes sense. If doodles often have behavioral issues and the general public doesn’t understand what a nightmare their coat is before getting them than why would groomers want to work on them? After they were led to the consulting room, I told the vet that I would pay her bill, - regardless of cost. God has blessed me. The look on that old lady's face when she came out to pay her bill and learned that an anonymous donor had paid her bill, - was priceless 🙂. We can all do acts of kindness for each other. Pass it on.

Vanessa’s superpowers are complete empathy with the dogs, and a complete absence of fear of dogs. Animals can tell if you’re nervous or calm, and they act accordingly. It’s rational on their part: If people are tense and worried, they figure there’s danger around. If people are relaxed and quiet, animals know there’s nothing to fear.

Why don’t you get a pet insurance? When I used to live in Canada, we had pet insurance. I bought a plan as soon as I bought my cat from a breeder. You pay affordable monthly premium and they cover your cat or dog for needed medical bills. It can get quite expensive when they get sick so it’s always a good idea to get a pet insurance. My cat luckily lived for 21 years without any major illness. But I had pet insurance throughout his lifetime.

Groomer here to co-sign…doodles definitely tend to be more difficult for grooming (regardless of size). He was such a good boy it was incredible to watch. @mygirldarby
@mygirldarby 10 месяцев назад
Golden retrievers are generally so very well behaved and poodles are well behaved as well. A golden and a poodle is of course different than a Labrador and poodle, but even with this mix, labs just aren’t aggressive either. Poodles, Goldens, and labs are not aggressive or difficult dogs. Why would you find them difficult? I'm just curious. My mom was a groomer, and she loved these dogs because they were so sweet, but of course they are a lot of work. Another popular mix is the aussie labradoodle, which for anyone who doesn't know, is a labrador, poodle and cocker spaniel. The cocker spaniel was added to make the dog smaller. A cocker in the mix does make for a higher possibility of potential aggression. Cocker spaniels have a higher bite rate than people may expect. My mom preferred the Golden doodles and labradoodles to the aussie Labradoodles even though the aussie is smaller, because they can be feisty even when they've been groomed regularly. Many Cockers have no Issues showing you their teeth when they don't like something. And they're not bluffing. They will snap or outright bite. The other issue with the cocker is they are no warning biters. They will suddenly bite hard with no warning whatsoever which is of course dangerous for a groomer. Cockers are notorious for this trait. I've never liked cocker spaniels for this reason.

They called him a cockapoo. He was closer to 30 pounds.) The Aussiedoodle mix is generally a very high energy dog, I figure that was why she ended up in a rescue. That and being somewhat high maintenance with that blended coat. The mix of wavy double coated fur, and curly poodle hair can lead to heavy matting and requires fairly frequent brushing & consistent grooming.

Some people haven't experienced trauma and deep dark depression, that takes all your energy away. Where you don't even have energy to brush your own hair, let alone someone else's hair. Some people are so fortunate that they don't know what it's like to be in so much pain that it hurts to move. Some people don't know what it feels like to have absolutely no energy or strength to even take a shower without being exhausted for a whole week after taking that one shower; because their body is fighting off a dis-ease. I do know how it feels. It ain't no fun. And those who don't know what it feels like are so quick to judge others. Some people truly cannot grasp an understanding until they themselves experience it. Proverbs 29:23 A man’s pride will bring him low, But a humble spirit will obtain honor. Something I learned some time ago, humble yourself or life will do it for you.

I am SO thankful for your attitude towards some of your clients and the awareness that we don't always know what they're going through. As you said, they managed to get their dog groomed in the end, despite some road blocks. He was a really good boy, who gave you hardly any resistance. But when he was fussy about havin his feet done he made me think of a page that used to pop up in my suggestions of a farrier in China who took care of donkeys who were, often times, very neglected. When you have a dog who doesn't want you to touch his feet that's one thing. But this man held on to the donkey's foot no matter how much it tried to kick him off. I can't even imagine what kind of strength it takes to do that! And quite often he would stand with his back to the donkey's head, and the leg berween HIS legs. So if he wasn't able to hold on tightly enough, the consequences could have been - ah - breathtaking! So when the next dog doesn't want you to hold onto his/her foot, remember that a certain Chinese farrier holds on at the risk of never again having any children! Great work Vanessa! I always look forward to discovering more of your grooms.

As a groomer, most of the salons I worked at ordered me to turn away severely matted dogs as a liability issue. That and even after 4 years of grooming, I am terrified of nicking matted dogs. You say that took you 32 minutes, It would have been an hour plus for me. I hope one day I can be as confident and good as you are!

It's a tough decision to make. Taking on a job, that's outside of your competence (or what you feel comfortable with) is not a great idea. Things can go wrong and then it's your fault. But it must be heartbreaking, to refuse service, when you know, the poor animals are suffering.n

It’s also worth noting that behavior can change with the environment. A lot of grooming salons are loud and chaotic, but a quiet environment like yours might make a difference. I’m an in home groomer and a lot of dogs are SO much calmer when there aren’t a bunch of loud dogs around.

Such a good point. A simple nail trim by an abusive groomer set my 11lb chi-weenie back years. She had night terrors for weeks. Although that's not the same situation at all here, the groomers make the difference.

Anyone who gets a doodle should be aware BEFORE they get their dog, that it will need regular grooming and brushing. I knew grooming was very expensive so got my own clippers and did my doodle girl myself right from the start. It's also much easier to keep their fur short, both for grooming and bathing, so the teddy bear look is fine, but harder to maintain.

It sounds like they were aware, got the dog and then suddenly lost a major source of income. :c

@@AnakhaSilverBrushing it at home is very expensive? Bathe him even with regular soap or shampoo? I fully understand what it is to lose a source of income unexpectedly, I have lived it, but do not neglect basic things that do not really require a lot of money.

@@anna1417bathing isn’t enough once the curly hair grows past a certain point. And some people aren’t able to bath dogs for various reasons. Should they consider grooming needs before deciding on a dog to adopt or buy? Sure. But so many people don’t.

This is too much judgement. You have 0 idea about how it got to this point. For all we know, the owner got sick, or something like that. That made it hard for them to care for the dog. The dog looks happy and loved. And the owner is trying. Otherwise they wouldnt have found Vanessa. A little bit of compassion for people you dont know, goes a long way. :)

You can tell by the difference in how hard he was panting in the beginning as to much better he felt afterwards. His breathing had slowed down. He was hot and miserable carrying that amount of hair around. He is a beautiful dog and he knew you were trying to make him feel better. He especially loved the oatmeal shampoo. Thank you for all that you do to these beautiful fur babies. ❤️ 😊

What a wonderful boy! I've watched a lot of hoof restoration videos, and it struck me as you worked on Falcor (FABULOUS NAME btw) that just like how horses show definite relief for what the human is doing, so do dogs. That sigh was adorable! And I think that the animals you groom can understand that you're helping them, that you want them to feel better. And this gentleman most certainly felt MUCH better. I sure hope that the owner's situation has improved (or will soon, I'm watching this vid some months after its upload). It's clear that Falcor is a well loved dog and that his human is patient and gentle.

She is so popular, that she earns big money, FAR better than a professional fee, in one day's views after the groom. And those videos quietly tick over, for years. And she deserves her success. Fabulous, dry wit, competent, experienced, good at explaining - and sometimes she helps her dog clients with vet bills. She also helps out a couple of rescues, I think. Great girl.
