Fun fact: Otto brought in 100 cats in the book after Aegon hanged all the rat catchers. That's why there were cats for Arya to chase in GoT. That's also where Tommen's cat, Ser Pounce, came from.
I love that we see Alicent going to Otto for comfort and him not giving her any to the next scene of Alicent not going to comfort Aegon. I also think some of that is the guilt she feels. But just seeing all the trauma passed along.
Aemond has serious mommy issues. Aegon is giving me Joffrey vibes. Making Cole the new Hand. What could possibly go wrong? Brother killing brother. Brother killing himself. What a tragic mess. Thanks a lot, Cole. "Aegon is still malleable" In what universe? "I have sinned" "I do not wish to hear of it" Father of the Year.
Except for the fact that he didn't see that he shouldn’t have counted Rhaenyra out. You could see him grappling with that decision this episode. Instead, he went years living with complete idiots.
@@MFBloosh People underestimate how much Tywin had the deck stacked in his favor. Otto has to work much smarter than Tywin who can just come in ann start making orders that everyone has to value.
Amazing that he didn't anticipate Aegon murdering the rat catchers. He should have cause he's always been a triflin, feckless rapist and an idiot. His ass didn't anticipate getting fired either.
@marissanorth85 fiction still has to make sense. Aegon the Conqueror's mother was a Velaryon. So Daemon, Rhaenyra and Viserys all should have been mixed race. Rhaenyra having white sons makes her seem reckless. At least in the book, she could blame their dark hair on their Baratheon blood.
I don’t think Cole genuinely believed in that plan, dude just spent the whole night and morning cooking in his own guilt and looking for excuses or for someone else to blame (other than himself) and when he found a scapegoat to vent his frustrations out on and that scapegoat shot questions back at him (questioning his integrity and honesty) it really pissed him off. So what does Cole do, he sends that motherfu… off on a suicide mission, if he succeeds then Cole gets credit for the plan, if he switches over to Rhaenyras side then Cole can label him a traitor who must of played a role in the child’s murder, if he fails and dies then. . .oh well I won’t be seeing him again. For Cole it’s a perfect plan to kill HIS enemies (1 stone to possibly kill 2 birds or at least 1) so not a great plan for the greens but definitely for Cole.😂Kings Landing is starting to rub off on him, let’s hope he plays some more games (I don’t like generic agro male villains, so this sort of gaslighting manipulative shit is better from Cole)
Btw the actor who plays Cole is getting a lot of hate and harassement online. He had to limit his comments because people can't differentiate between actor and character. I hate when that happens.
@@dorvrith It’s what tabloids said about Jack Gleeson, but it was all wrong. He was not harassed like Fabien Frankel is on social media or in random encounters. Jack always rectified in interviews that people where cool with him and understood the difference between him and his character. He quit acting because he hated the notoriety. So times changed and/or dumber people are watching the show.
We aren't going to forget him murdering Laenor's secret boyfriend our of jealousy, right? Or when he casually murdered that old small council member in S1E09? Or his ridiculous super-incel energy before Alicent finally took pity on him and they started boning? That guy blows.
@@ianwestche didn't kill Joffrey out of jealousy. If was jealousy he would have killed Laeonr. Joffery essentially blackmailed him. How is he an "incel"? He voluntarily took a vow of celibacy.
I honestly believe that is Rhaenyra went to Cole at this moment and told him that she would go sell oranges with him. He would be outta there. He is so butt hurt.
I get Otto's anger towards Aegon, but what did he expect would happen when he yelled to a grieving father about how much he sucked, how stupid he was, how his dad didn't even want him to rule? Like yeah sir, he will fire you lol. Especially since Alicent and Otto are the ones who convinced Aegon that Viserys chose him, Aegon was trying to run away because he knew his dad never chose him. Otto got overly emotional and blundered, massively. And the consequence of that is Criston being hand now.
The real reason that Aegon fired Otto in book wasn't because of revenge or things like that, it was actually because Otto's choices were bad and Aegon was done and wanted to act. That's the real reason but the show making it a comedy scene 😂
You are my new best friend. The hate you have for freaking Cole matches mine. I know how he ends in the book, but I hope the show makes his death 10 times works. Poor Aemond has Momma Issues. And with Alicent as his mother, who can blame him. Otto is not a good man, just as Tywin Lannister was not a good man or father, but I would take Otto and Tywin advising me over Cole any damn day of the week. They are heartless and brutal but also smart and cunning and Cole thinks he is those things, but he is a bitter little man-child who can get over the fact Rhaenyra turned him down flat. He's the poster boy for the INCEL movement. I don't think Cole believed sending the twin would work. He banked on him being killed because he was the one man who stood up to him.
I love how funny this show is, without the lazy Disney-level writing where they try to force humor and pauses for audience reactions. It’s funny because the natural reactions from these characters are funny. All the characters are so good. Alllll of them.
Also, just want to compliment that fight scene at the end. The twins gave us what might be one of the most realistic sword fights we've ever seen on screen fr.
I can't stand the White Worm actress and her bad French accent. Her scenes always seem unnecessary or boring. Maybe it's just the actress or the writing or her accent.
The show has diminished Cole so far. He has a much closer relationship with Aegon in the book. He was the one who convinced Aegon to take the throne. His nickname is the Kingmaker. So him becoming Hand is less surprising.
One of the best written and acted episodes in HOTD or recent GOT. However whoever directed the blocking and editing was doing way too much. We don’t need a new angle every 3 seconds. Let the actors breathe. Some of those amazing scenes would have been incredible if they’d been allowed to just rock in a long take.
I agree -- Cole was just frustrated and desperate and wanted something that would just end this. He didn't think the "send the twin" plan through, but what little thinking he did told him that this was going to work. He recognized Arryk's value, both as a guard, and his loyalty -- he chose the king over his beloved family! He didn't send Arryk thinking he was going to die for no reason.
I thought maybe the Green twin woulda won the duel, then played it off for a few episodes, even gaining our trust as the audience, only to go after her when her guard is down or something.
my predictions for upcoming episodes- helaena runs to dragonstone to escape the greens. aegon killed by otto. Aemond is crowned. final battle betweem aemond vs rhaenyra and daemon. aemond and daemon die in battle. rhae sits the iron throne
Otto is most definitely my favorite character on this show. Just as Cersei was my favorite in GOT... deliciously evil, very clever (not infallible) fearless, but still had a small but true love for her children. Otto is much the same way. But the fact that he is a man in such a very patriarchal world has given him the advantage. He has been Hand to three kings, and has observed politics up close and personal, allowing him to sharpen his manipulation skills and his powers of deceit. He is always interesting and never disappointing.
@@blondymonk1535 Otto's had his evil moments. Pimping out his own daughter... attempting to put a hit out on Rhaenyra in Season 1... selling out his grandchildren. He has some admirable qualities (much like Tywin), but he's capable of doing evil things. And if you do enough evil things, you are evil.
@@blondymonk1535 Do you get it??? Tywin and Cersei were both evil. Not only did Tyrion say that...GRRM also said that, and he knows these characters better than you or I. And I didn't exactly call Otto evil. I said he was capable of evil... great evil. After all, if you're willing to kill the children of people who you call friend, and willing to exploit the death of even your own kin, who you claim to love... that's beyond bad.
Bethany Antonia, the actress playing Baela has a biracial mother and white father just like the character herself. No it’s not impossible for her skin color to be brown because we’re literally looking at her. The girl who played younger Baela also has a white father.
Bethany's mother is biracial but her father is black not white. She is estranged from her black dad. She is clearly very black. At most 25% white from her mother being half cast. You are correct about young Baela but even that is a casting mistake. Laena valyrian is biracial and her kids with Damon would be only 25% black and look like Meghan Markle
@@lynnd.5135 Her dad is white and deceased, she posted a pic of him on her Insta. And no, that’s not how skin color works. These ignorant comments is why I even had to reply and idk why he’s annoyed when he just reduced her character to skin color while everyone else gets normal commentary about what’s happening on screen. Multiracial people do not live in a box of only specific skin colors. I can’t believe this has to be explained in 2024.
@@Goldenaerrows well actually she is estranged from her black father( shocker). Her mother was married to a white man called Tony Clarke who died years before Bethany was even born. Then her mother had Bethany with a black dude who is estranged. She sometimes uses Clarke as a last name because that's her mother's married name with the white husband Tony who died. No record of her black father's surname anywhere. Obviously I don't know if her mother is now in a relationship with another white man who might have helped raise Bethany. I mean highly possible that her mother didn't go all 20+ years of Bethany's life single. Maybe she has a white stepdad who she calls dad
I'm so tired of how everyone treats Aegon in this series and outside of it. No one treats him with any sympathy. I really liked the Scene with Aemond in the Whorehouse with the same lady who eyeballed him in Season 1 when he and Criston visited looking for Aegon. Her playing with his hair as he reveals his feelings towards the Luke incident in season 1 is a good scene. Im also so happy to see Adamm and Alyn Hull. These two characters are among my favorite heroes of the Dance of the Dragons
Everyone raves about Otto but he was overreacting about the whole thing. Especially considering he just gives up on Aegon and fucks off leaving Alicent alone. So much for working towards the good of the realm when he literally gives up on Aegon barely 2 weeks after he was crowned King after he did one inconsequential thing behind his back. Rhys' acting was stellar but the context of the scene is horrible.
Otto snapped but he didn’t give up. He's going to the Reach to get the Tyrells in line and to recruit Daeron who is easily the most reasonable of his grandsons.
Aegon made 3 big mistakes that's going to come back on him because he has no idea on how to be a king, a good leader. Otto wasn't overreacting at all. He's playing chess while Aegon and Criston are playing hopscotch.
