Always good and entertaining reviews, Paul. I bought my first BenQ product about 20 years ago. It was a 14 inch LCD monitor. Great product. You pointed out the reason that I watch very little TV here in the US. That is the punishment we enjoy for not paying a TV license. Ooh the Commercials!
Funding for TV is different in Europe not really certain it’s better to have to pay for a license to watch tv but then that’s most pay tv channels these days. Best to record broadcast tv and skip commercials or stick to pay services maybe?
Great video! Again, Paul, my bf wants everything you reviewed. I don't allow TV in our bedroom and my bf wants this in our bedroom. We both love your work.
@@blissweb I don't have a wife yet, we had a date set for the summer covid hit, now we have a date set for next year, so I'm not technically married, but I've been calling the lovely lady my wife for years now.
I don’t understand why nobody has mentioned the MAIN beauty of this product… I own this also and I found out myself that it ACTUALLY does let you use a fire stick in full 1080p… the port that you used to replace the android tv is locked to 720p but the outside hdmi port itself is not locked… I tried playing back Amazon prime videos, netflix, RU-vid, Disney etc.. all show full hd and the quality it’s straight away obvious that it’s not 720p output 😉… do give it a try and you’ll be amazed at just how perfect this projector is compared to the others at the price point
This comment needs to be higher because this is absolutely true! I got a Firestick and used the side HDMI - the quality difference is huge. The projector itself even displays that it is 1080p when connected. Highly recommend!
Paul, I love your content. I've bought quite a few smart-home devices based on your recommendations! And, I'm ashamed to admit that I've stolen the baiting joke and use it as often as possible..... Keep up the great content. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Looking forward to see what you have for us in 2023!
Great video, thank you! I have the GV11 and love it! Question about the Fire TV Stick: can the Fire TV remote control also control the projector’s menus and functions (CEC)? That would be a dream!! 🙌🏼
Managing to get OF in 🤣🤣. At least we weren't baited. 🤣 Another awesome video with a great product review of the BenQ projector. Unfortunately, my Australian Amazon account doesn't allow support of your Amazon account. Keep up the fantastic work 👏🏻 👏🏻
I took my daughter to San Francisco when she was 7. She thought it was odd when the adverts played at the end of the opening credits. I looked at her funny and said, “oh you just wait!” When the first advert break started 5 minutes later she collapsed in howls of laughter. And repeated that every time for the whole show. It was hilarious!
"A lot of the magazines that I've read haven't dared to drop it." Yes, I hate to have a claim disproved as a function of wrecking the equipment. Good on you for testing it for me though. "Don't be skipping this video.": I'll admit I was tempted, but I want to find out whether the product is worth getting without deciding on just a clever hack. "Autofocus and keystone adjustment": This is a great feature. Manually adjusting is so early naughts. "135 degree rotation": Excellent. No more having to prop yourself up just to watch a video. "Have you seen American TV?": I live in the States. I don't watch broadcast TV except for special 1-time cases specifically because it has the attention span of a 3-year-old doped up on Halloween candy. All the good stuff's on streaming anyway. Locking the TV to the box is an immediate "never stay in this hotel again" for me, but it's nice to have a workaround. "Android TV built-in": Aha! I see where this is going. Very nice feature by itself though. "Speakers ... actually astoundingly good too": That's very good to hear. You don't have to tote additional sound equipment just so your projector doesn't sound like it's playing inside a tin can. "300 ANSI lumens": Yes. Not the best, but as you say, still workable for most purposes. That's why they make curtains, I guess. "Inserting a FireTV sticik": Genius! I love it. So easy and useable. (I'm also one of those folks that still have Netflix because there's still some things actually watchable on it. I also happen to have a FireTV stick.) "720p": Not a deal-breaker, especially considering the size and weight of the device and the common uses (which don't include having resolution high enough to count the lead actors nose hairs). Additional HDMI input, USB C PD port, microphone jack: Better input options that some other projectors at much higher pricing. I can see using the extra input for when you actually might need to plug in your laptop. Great review and yet another thing that I'll simply have to buy now (Thank you ever so much for that.) Keep up the good work.
Fantastic Review! Love the hack. I'm thinking this may work with all BenQ projectors with the existing Android stick, as they all have compartments similar to this... Would be great to try this out. I'm going to go right over and see how you turned the Fire Stick into a Retroarch Game Emulator now... Keep up the great videos!
This eastern german Simson motobike on the background made me laugh. Dream of every teenager in communist Poland back in the 80's. My brother had the "enduro" version.
The Camping Trip, Ray Stevens "I was a track star in college and my chubby little wife flew past me with a child under each arm, yelling, never mind the rest room..." "The last we saw of that Land Rover was the tail lights going over the falls... State farm ain't never gonna believe this..."
Yeah, I saw 720p and decided no. I mean, if I had us $500 disposable income, maybe, but I already own a 1080p projector I can plug my laptop or phone into even though it isn't as cool.
That Hadouken skit had me laughing real good xD Effectively having a dumb projector with a swapable brain is amazing; could bury anything in there! A stick running Plasma Big Screen or some other software... possibilities are quite endless. Amazing find and really fun project!
I currently have 2 projectors and was in the market for a nice portable one, however at £500 I'm going to give this a miss. I also wouldn't class this as "short throw" - I have a Short Throw projector and have seen Ultra Short Throw projectors - the idea of those is to have a large screen at a short distance 🤷
What fire stick did you use? i have 4kmax and another one (can’t remember the model) and neither fit. Youre video made pull the trigger on buying the projector but i guess i should have checked the fire stick details first 😂
Picked up a projector from super store 50 bucks When they came out 400$ it's incredible for 50$. Super bright. The screen at 60" Is still to small has hard time focusing that small. It looked best at 100"
Hey! Which version of the fire stick are you using for your projector. I bought a fire stick after watching this, however it’s too big for the slot inside the projector
What the best screen size? I have a 50 inch projector screen. I just want to use it to watch movies useing vcl player or playing switch. On hot summer nights Outside. Can u add the ps or Xbox remote play app?
Hi Paul, Great Vlog especially with the "Master " joke. Loved the new Super flash slap (or what ever you would call it). I am not impressed with the projector featured costing nearly £500. Firstly I want a projector to look like a projector, not a toy. My recent projector is 4K. 2 x HTMI (Plays Fire stick), 1920 x 1080 15,000:1 contrast ratio 600 ANSI Lumens. Its the best projector I have ever had. £239. The picture image is amazing. Thank you. Have a great week.
@@paulhibbert LOTR secret diaries. A whole new meaning to the phrase blowing the Horn of Gondor. Important advice - neither you or Nisha(sp?) want to be drinking or eating - pasta blasting via the nostrils - and short people will give you hysterics for a couple of months. I'm a bad influence really. I got a kid at uni from a discrete glance to "nice software" in 3 months at uni. And he never even saw Short Circuit... He had great taste, right up until she turned round and was one of the girls in his medical electronics class - I've never seen a South American guy go fire engine red.. But he managed it.. "Hmm, Stephanie change colour..." 😳🥺😋🤦♀️ 😂😂😂😂
The major side effect of the pill they want me to take for my fibro - you know - the fibro that has given me 8 cancers and chronic pain like the worst sunburn you have ever had, under your skin and in your bones 24/7 that even with morphine is suicide grade pain? May make you commit suicide... I kid you not.
Okay, here's a weird question for a unique use-case. Does this projector know if it's been rotated on its side or upside-down and correct the picture accordingly? I've been looking for a small projector with nice picture that needs to fit into a specific housing. From the shape of this, it would need to be rotated if I wanted to try this one. Thanks for your reviews and humor.
It auto corrects the vertical image to a square shape, but not horizontal (you can't point it siagobally at a wall and get a square picture) , you couldn't put the projector on its side either as it doesn't rotate the image. Hope that helps!
@@blissweb Assuming you have a horizontal application you don't need to worry about that. Provided that you can provide access for ports and cooling (and you will need cooling) all you need are optical grade mirrors or prisms in the right alignment to send the signal where you want it to end up. The trick is fabbing an enclosure suitable and aligning the mirrors/prisms accordingly so they transmit the light without introducing distortion, interference and in a way that'll handle induced heat...
Thanks for the info everyone. It looks like a great device, but isn't right for my use-case. It's not easy finding a small decent projector that can fit inside an R2-D2 dome to work out of the holoprojector port.
Hello Paul: can you please let me know which version of fire stick you have to insert with this projector. I ordered one just couple weeks ago, and it it too long too fit in the benq slot :(
Hey Paul - a nice review of the BenQ, would you put it ahead of the Xgimi projectors which are a similar price range, similar size, but have a better resolution 1080p and higher ANSI rating? Is the attraction of the BenQ that it can be hacked with a firestick which outweighs the lower image resolution?
Paul, if you can provide me port specs for the expansion slot I can measure the PC stick I have to see if it'll fit. Will need to know lxwxd, how the HDMI is situated and what side the power USB is on. If its broad side out (hdmi) and LHS for the USB - if the length and width OK then it should work... A 4gb 4-core Windows projector pc that you can carry around everywhere, could even use a car door as the screen surface. Would have made my old job *so* much easier.
First thank you for bringing back the Master Baiter. Missed it worth the wait. Secondly, wow this product is awesome and it would be what we need for our outdoor screen instead of plugging in a BenQ projector. Love that. Oh and most importantly you completely nailed American commercials, but I have to ask, do you have commercials where you are or are they just as stupid as ours? Ha Also Congratulations!! We know why you were in Florida, glad you survived the hurricane. Great job Paul as always.
On BBC whether you watch it or not, no commercials (except for their own stuff), paid for, supposedly by a mandatory TV license on every household (Don't get me started !!). On non-BBC, once every 15 mins for about 5 mins and equally stupid. Just stream and ditch the lot of them 🙂
I wish I was back in Florida right this second, it was such a beautiful place, and the people were lovely, but your TV made me incredibly thankful for the NHS.
I stopped watching TV here in the US over a decade ago and am shocked when I catch a glimpse at my Mom's house. It's literally such trash it makes me laugh just prior to the unexplained missing time.
On a serious note, you basically had this sold as soon as I heard ceiling, and saw the rotation thanks to the magnetic stand, but am I correct in assuming this only has the one hdmi, and no optical port, so the only sound coming out is the 2.1 Bluetooth speaker (well any Bluetooth device)?
@@paulhibbert it's not a problem, so long as you can run the projector with the android TV cover off, I can just use the hdmi input from my denon soundbar, and then plug the soundbar into the projector. Finally a solution to end the need to sleep in the spare/media/games room instead of my own bed when the missus is on a long haul flight and has to stay overnight in whatever country she's flying to that day. I'm allowed sound equipment in the bedroom, she likes her music, so that's fine, but no TV and no permanent projector, I really don't see how she can object to something that is quicker to put away than my clothes, this projector could probably save marriages.
Great Channel, you can talk about anything and it will be good to watch. you should talk about games, tv, movies and people will love it.. and the youtube algorythm will make you get lots of new subs!
I have another BenQ projector and I downloaded Netflix on the included dongle in a tricky way but still workable! But I would need my phone to be the remoter while using Netflix cause it's only controlable through BenQ's own smart app. But besides that, as a Netflix user, I didn't find any other trouble. :)
Paul, just in another discussion in the Home Assistant group on the book of face. Can you please turn the following in to animated gifs, ad they would make the most perfect reply to some comments: "home assistant!" groin pump "corporate Greed" groin pump "it just weeeeerkssss" Head explosion And any more you care to waste your precious time on 😜 TIA 👍🏼
You would not think of buying a TV that was less than 4k. Why do these projector companies make us suffer so? There is a guy on RU-vid who has made his own 4K projector "DIY perks", from a mobile phone screen. Yet there is no equivalent to be bought anywhere. What should be £200 is £2,000.
In this case it's a portability thing. They've weighed up the cost of the build for the use case of a portable projector and decided the 720P image was a better compromise than compromising on it's size, weight and sound. They do a 1080P portable projector called the GS50 and it's MUCH bigger, and MUCH more expensive.
@@paulhibbert I had an Optoma PK320 720p with a battery 10 years ago and it cost £131. Projector makers are just not moving fast enough. In fact they are not moving at all.😢
Because tradeoff, and your eyes can't see 4k anyway. It's as pointless as buying a £1000 phone with 90hz screen, it makes no viable difference. If I can run on a hexacore Mediatec there isn't much more needed if people code cleanly and don't shart out bloated, memory hungry apps - Shartlife and Arselexa I'm looking at you (PS Shartlife now unusable *and* suddenly charging for anything useful.. Hence hubitat. I wrote two books on a Nokia E70 and Nokia 9300. And they both still work...
My first projector was 480P, it weighed so much that it took 2 people to attach it to a ceiling beam. The £80 lamps needed replacing yearly and if the curtains were open you couldn't tell it was on. 🤣 You're right though, it is moving slowly, 10 years ago I had a similar projector to you, but again, it wasn't as portable as this and the lamps needed replacing every year or two at £80 to £100. You definitely couldn't drop it!!
The projector probably would not like being dropped at 70cm after you have used it and the bulb is still hot? This was a big problem in schools that moved them straight after use.
@@paulhibbert That is a great improvement as they were so delicate Circa 2004 and cost nearly as much as the projector which often upset the clients ;)
Kind of hard to work out. Its 720p stated resolution - but screen size is more of a theoretical - especially if you use one of those - make a smartphone screen into a 14" TV magnifying visual signal distortion gidgets. Its literally a function of clear visual light signal vs the ambient..
