About the same time you were there, I flew to Majestic Mirage. My roommate didn't show up, my flight was delayed 8 hr.,. It was dark and I was alone. Thanks god for a very nice driver. At the reception they told me they don't have my reservation. Being the old school, I show all paper work - hotel, flight, insurance. No problem. From that moment everything was fantastic. Just came back from my second time in Mirage.

Go back to Expedia and have them refund the difference of what you paid vs what they quoted. That's the reason the hotel wanted to take your receipt. So good thinking that you kept it.

This may be a price for the room without taxes and fees, usually such websites show you the base price and final price you will see at the checkout.

Sorry to hear about your check out experience. But, I love your attitude and the fact that you did not let the frustrating check out situation change the good experience you had during your stay in the resort. I love your attitude towards the whole thing. I work "frontline" myself and travel all inclusive every year and one or two things always comes up. Im going to mirage next week for our honeymoon and we are so excited and a few of your videos helped us out.

I watch all your reviews as I enjoy the fact that you are brutally honest with your work. Based on this video, I can't allow myself to book with Majestic Mirage ever. I've been to Punta Cana about 10 times over the years and plan on going back. This sort of illogical thinking on their part would have made me go ballistic. I have very little patience for gross incompetence and people that cannot think for themselves. Keep it real and keep up the good work!

I totally get your frustration. It's mind boggling how some so-called luxury hotels don't have customer experience as their absolute top priority. The front-line staff and management should be fully and regularly trained to handle all types of escalating situations. A disagreement with a customer should almost never happen, let alone at the front desk in front of other customers. Not to mention, they were arguing with a prominent RU-vidr with extensive travel experience. Their nickel-&-dime tactics could cost them hundreds of thousands in lost revenue over the years with a single bad review!

Thank you for reminding us to always be on top of everything when travelling! I hate to say it but I think they may target customers that pay at the resort and hoping that they didn't keep their receipts and take advantage of the situation. And like you mentioned, it's just a small piece of paper. And they chose not to accept your Amex statement as proof. It's a small set back caused by a few shady employees. But over all you had a great experience at the resort, and that's all because of many other wonderful staff.

I am happy that you still enjoyed your stay. My friend & I had a pretty poor check-in experience at Majestic Elegance in Costa Mujeres. We booked separate rooms through Expedia. While on our way, she randomly received an email that her room had been cancelled. We were going to be in Mexico in a few short hours. I completed the check-in with no problem. However, they made her re-book her reservation at a substantially higher rate. I believe that this is some sort of trick to squeeze more money out of people. It’s unfortunate because all we want to do is enjoy ourselves.

I always use Apple vacations. Nonstop flights to Punta Cana out of Milwaukee and its always as good or better rates then anywhere else I find. Keep up the good work on the vids man. ✌

Thank you for that review. I am sold on listening to what you have to say about travel and accommodations. I would like to book a Majestic Elegance ocean view suite, and getting a transparent viewpoint of Mirage will help in that decision. I have subscribed, and notifications are on.

I have been to the majestic Mirage it was a great experience and a beautiful resort. I am heading to the Majestic Elegance in about three weeks. I maybe wrong but it sounds like they we’re probably looking at your upcoming reservations for their sister resort next door. I maybe wrong of course. I am glad that you handled it well. But folks please keep in mind that the people who work at these resorts are quite scared to mess up and lose their jobs. DR maybe full of resorts and tourism but, it is still a developing country jobs don’t come a dime a dozen. They can’t just make decisions and say I’ll take it up with the manager. With that being said I am glad the matter was finally cleared up and how you handled it. I love your videos ..

I can tell it is frustrating to you especially since you managed Sales and Marketing. I have a very similar frustration with customer service reps, and what I mean by that is like you said the management does not empower or train them to listen, understand and have any flexibility to solve problems. I wouldn't be calling if I could do it online! I really appreciate when a rep does get it and solves the problem. I wish I could say my attitude was as good as yours, that is definitely an example. Hope your next stay is better at check out!

You're right, they wouldn't have given you that wristband if you didn't pay. I'm wondering if the clerk who checked you in pocketed your money. That was so unprofessional of them. Please make a follow up video about this.

Was really sad to see the video but I’m glad I stayed till the end and got your opinion, I’ve always enjoyed the Mirage ( and when we’re thirsty for a party we grab a couple roadie beers and head over to the elegance lobby) I’m hoping your issues stem from the same thing that plagues my industry and that is just a lack of decent workers these days.. fingers crossed it’s better for other people going forward

🤯😬 Yikes!! I'm not sure how I would have handled that at the end of a trip. I'm assuming you keep all your receipts since it's a business expense and it's a good thing you did in this instance! 😁 It's nice to hear you get real with all of us; not that you aren't usually real with us, but a rant every once in a while is good for everyone! 😂 Glad to know you don't let one bad egg spoil your entire rating of a resort.

Next time just go thru a reputable travel agent and you won't have these problems. You may think that travel agents are passé, but they are not. And the pandemic clearly showed that. Try dealing with Expedia,or directly wiyh the airlines during these hard times. A great travel consultant - is a gold!

I stayed in Punta Cana at Melia Caribe Tropical in 2008. Paid 500 for the week. It was wonderful. A couple years later the price doubled and it was terrible. Haven't been back.

We had a bad experience at Majestic Mirage back in 2018. We were either drugged or were given bad alcohol. We only had TWO drinks so we were definitely not drunk of even buzzed. We barely made it to our room without passing out for hours and not remembering how we got there. In addition, I woke up puking. Scary!!

I would have asked to see management, you were owed an apology. Expedia owes you a refund of the difference between what they quoted you and what you were forced to pay. I use Expedia a lot also and I would be mad if that happened to me.

I think the issue was you were checking out of a majestic property when you had a reservation to check in at another majestic property, which is something I’m sure they never see so they were confused as to why it was showing up on their end that you haven’t paid. Talking about critical thinking skills you should have presented that to them so that they could better understand your situation.

Beware of paying for a deluxe room and being given a standard room in Mexico. We found a deluxe room at a sale price and went through a travel agent - everything was paid for and confirmed. When we got to Mexico the reception desk at check in looked at what we paid and refused to give us the deluxe room. They probably thought they could sell it to someone else for full price so they told us the deluxe rooms were all booked. We wasted over two hours in the afternoon trying to get a room and finally after saying it was our anniversary they said they had a corner room which at least had a huge balcony and a great view. We asked for some refund but it was still a raw deal and a wasted afternoon.

wow what an experience. Yes you are correct, all inclusive hotels normally charge the entire stay up-front, and off you go to enjoy your vacation. That been said, I experienced sort of the same when I was in DR (Puerto Plata), I booked with Expedia as well. When I got to the hotel the amount to be paid was off from Expedia, but it happens that there is an 18% tax called ITB, I think Expedia included this tax in the rate but the hotel gives you the total in a different way which throws you off. Not sure why they would not have your payment upon checking out of the hotel, sounds shady, you should of asked for the manager. Who needs that.

Save your receipts and or any letters they may send out. My wife and I went on our honeymoon last January. When we arrived we received a letter stating the resort will give us the honeymoon treatment for a beach dinner and a fruit upon arrival. We had our amazing dinner on the beach which was amazing, I kept the letter in our safe ,. The last day of our stay we were checking out and the receptionist at the front desk said “you owe $100 dollars for your bottle of wine you purchased at the steakhouse” I explained we never ordered any wine. He spoke to his manager who spoke English and said it was our dinner on the beach it was a 100dollar upgrade. I explained we had a letter, the manager said he didn’t have record of a letter. I ran back to the room across the resort hoping I wouldn’t be late for our transport and was able to bring it back and the manager accepted and didn’t charge us. Long story short be careful and keep any receipts.

I would also say .. How in the world did I get in the room to them? Yes everything in Punta cana or ALL-Inclusives you pay Upfront unless you use the Spa ! I would of quickly talked to the manager and if he gave you a hard time.. you get their boss contact ## or company headquarters... I wouldn't of minded showing them a receipt but what if you lost it? you shouldn't of had to show it.. but I do agree that they should NOT take the reciept because what if a week later they charged you again and asked for a receipt again?

Majestic elegance was the worst experience I’ve ever had our butter threatened us for putting a negative check in experience on Expedia, our sunglasses were stolen by staff at the restaurant, they charged us for spa services that were included in club room. The staff were horrible. Maybe you should google the story of Tammy Lawrence Daley she was lucky to leave the place alive.

Same here. Service was so poor. If you dont tip every drink, waitress at club pool was not coming or you were waiting for your drinks for an hour 😆😆. The food at buffet restairants was mostly COLD. Paella overcooked. Cabanas all reserved at 8am. Sushi fish was dry. Ismail at pool bar was the best guy. Never seen a butler and no welcome booze like advertised on homepage and much more. Not returning. Prefer Breathless.

These heads up issues help travellers learn how to roll. There are scams, be prepared with a photocopy of your booking and price. And watch your account, and double check your bill, the math often doesn’t add up, or other fees appear. Tips are often added into the total on a restaurant bill, but the server expects another tip.

Sorry that you had such an ordeal with the checkout. A very poor way of business conduct and guest treatment. I will most likely never stay there. I conmend you on handling it so well. I use Expedia as well for the same reasons as you, points. I will be better at keeping receipts on trips, thanks to you. Hope next stay will be up to better standards.

Secrets Cap Cana, Breathless (Punta Cana and Mexico), Excellence in Cancun i never pay go to the checkout. I pay ahead. They don’t have a card on file. I peace out. No time for checkouts

All the staff are new at all the resorts. The resorts fired everyone during lockdown. These staff members make less than 180.00 US dollars per month. My husband is from the area.

OMG. Never heard of being financially held hostage on a prepaid basis. I would never give them my only receipt without making a copy or a photocopy after providing documentation. Changing booked rate by an additional 20 percent by a professional RU-vid traveler and makes you jump thru hoops to prove you paid at all PLUS 20 percent over Expediate rate you bought it at? WOW., really? Ruins entire experience and still give a great rating? Not sure how that type of systematic mismanagement experience would ever make that makes sense for an "average traveler"...off by several hundred upon checkout from booked rate???? Best move was to provide documentation and walk while retaining the original copy. And they ALSO apparently systematically control your ability to leave the property. Outstanding rating? Get some rest. You're not thinking clearly.

The first time I went to an AI I rented a car to go back to the airport instead of the shuttle. I just left w/o checking out. They called pissed. Lesson learned.
